- President Barack Obama cautions Joe Walsh of the Eagles not to trash the White House like he once did a hotel room. "We want to get our security deposit back."
Walsh, Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmidt and the widow of Glenn Frey were at the White House in advance of the Kennedy Honors celebration.
This is the final Kennedy Honors that Obama will preside over while president.
Not only Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Timothy B Schmidt and Joe Walsh should have been there, but also Don Felder, Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon. Together they made the Eagles the greatest band ever.

Seen The Eagles in 1994 BEST concert I have ever seen. It was like seeing three concerts in one. Joe Walsh did his music then Glenn Frey did his, next Don Henley THEN the Eagles songs I have listen to the Eagles from 72 until now.

@@Sherry-vs2kn look at all the successful bands , they have to be alpha males or females so to speak and with that comes a bunch of great songs and music, just as the Beatles did ( together for 8 years ) they had all became rich and famous together and afterwards split up and had very successful careers as solo artists which brought them more fame and fortune and as they got older the ego's were set aside and said 95% of the time it was great, the media made the public think that the eagle's were ready to have a gun fight on stage which just wasn't so and they really didn't care about the lies that were being told about them, now granted those huge lies were based on small truths, they stayed together longer than 99% of marriages last so not too bad I would say.
J Doe I do agree with your comment here. With the Eagles there was to much ego flowing with Henley and Frey....can even throw Azoff in there to. Fielder was not invited due to standing up for himself with the law suit and Randy due leaving them. When he quit they knew they lost 99% of the voice/sound of the band. That shows with it taking a very long time to come out with The Long Run lp. Not the Tim can’t play or sing but no one could come close to Meisners voice and sound. Lots of bands have completely broke apart due to egos for sure, but those to should of still been honored.
@@Sherry-vs2kn very true, Randy Meisner was one in a million not only because of his talent but because he probably brought a calmness to the group, Randy Meisner did party but not even one tenth of the rest of the eagle's, Randy was a devout family man and although the money he made was great it was no where near what Henley and Frey made and Randy finally walked away from the Eagle's and gave up a lot to go back home to his wife that he loved so dearly and his children, such a humble man, I watched the Eagle's induction to the rock and roll hall of fame and Randy thanked his wife who was there,I think it was 1998, but at that time he had been married to her for 27 years so she was there when Randy had nothing and stayed with him when he would be on tour most of the year, they were truly in love
Such a great line, 'we want our security deposit back.' And so nice to see all of these artists recognized, especially the Eagles. But why only three of the Eagles? Mr. Henley should round up all the guys for any future awards, particularly Mr. Felder. I hope everyone got the same medal or ribbon or participation trophy.

Felder’s issue was always with Glenn. Maybe he didn’t want to go because he’s a republican and didn’t feel comfortable in a room full of democrats. Meisner was long gone by this time so who knows why he wasn’t there. Henley is a fair guy so I doubt this was all his doing. Btw I worked with them for years in LA so my comments are based on first hand observations
The show was an amazing tribute. Almost half as good as this beautiful speech.

Felder not only wrote the music for Hotel California but he was also the driving force of making the Eagles more of a rock act than a country act with his guitar playing. He earned the nickname "fingers" with some tremendous riffs and solos.
Michael Messier yeah he a very good GUITARIST but not a good songwriter or singer. This is why Felder didn't have a successful solo career other than a couple of songs. Henley and feet were the songwriters and had the voices.
Words without music is a poem. Felders wrote the music for Hotel California, Those Shoes, Life in the fast lane, and Heartache Tonight. He wrote music and lyrics for Victim of love and Visions, in which he sings.

That was a great tribute to a great band, I shed a tear the day Glen passed. The Eagles are one of my all-time favorites up there with Fleetwood Mac and Bob Seger.
Watching this a year into COVID19, I cringe seeing how close to everyone is standing next to one another. Odd and sad observation how in one year, one's lens of the world was altered.

Same here. One of the best concerts I ever attended were the Eagles 20 years ago at the San Jose Shark arena. I was so devastated of Glenn's death, I couldn't listen to any Eagles song for 18 months.

Roger Ross, Thank you for saying what I have thought since I got word of this award! Don Felder was as large a part of that band as any of the other guys. In 1974 Bernie brought him to a session or two and they (Glen & Don ) wanted him on the spot to bring more solid rock Guitar to the music.

Frey and Henley have managed to convince people that they were the writers of the best tunes. Frey actually had the audacity to claim the "Hotel California " tune was nothing until he added his contribution. Felder wrote those notes and it became their signature hit. it was "Hotel California" that made the album a "concept" album.

Conspicuously absent, original major contributors Don Felder, Randy Meisner and Bernie Ledon who are 3/5 of the eagles. Joe Walsh and Timothy came at the end, replacement Eagles. There was not the usual magic and love for the Eagles honoring, kind of felt empty. All due to Don Henley being a hater and unable to bury the hatchet.
Felder sued the Eagles I'm sure that's why he wasn't included. The other two quit yrs ago and wanted nothing to do with the band

Actually Maynard, Don Felder wasn't an original Eagle either. While I agree he brought a lot to the group, their were only four original members. (And it's Bernie Leadon, you forgot the a) The "History of the Eagles" is the best information on this band anywhere. You can get it on DVD and it was also shown on CNN approximately a year ago. It isn't a bunch of music and entertainment writers' opinions and takes on what happened, it comes straight from the horses' mouths. The ones that were actually there.
Don Felder had some skills, no question, but singing wasn't his forte.

Bernie Leadon, Randy Meisner and Don Felder did not make Music to earn a medel, they did it out of love and a God given talent. They can stand proud that the songs they wrote will go down in history. Sadly the event cast a shadow over Don Henley, not for his talent but as a man of honor. Without Randy Meisner, Bernie Leadon and Don Felder this is not the Eagles. This shows the ultimate greed of Don Henley and Glen Frey.
Both Meisner and Leadon have been having health issues though Leadon was able to join the band for most of their last tour (not to mention they both initially left the band because they didn't like the lime light) as for Felder he is a grate guitar player Henley even agnoliged him as one of the best but his greed is why he's no longer in the band he wanted to take all the credit for hotel California when in earlier interviews he admits he only came up with the opening guitar rift and Frey and Henley took that rift and wrote the lyrics and finished the music

He also wrote more then 90 % of the music read his book. The fact is no music for Hotel California(their most sold and popular song) they would have been a good band at best not legends.
But, he did not deserve an equal share the second time around. The Eagles are more than a single song. Actually, I'm starting to believe it was Felder's greed that was his undoing.

Joking aside, Pres Obama spoke well of the Eagles, including Glenn. He was there that night.

Obama probably never listened to the eagles in his life before he found out they were being honored and he could get a photo opportunity out of it.
How do you go through life being such a miserable person? Obama was a well-known great fan of rock music. But of course, you only see what you want to see- a vile stereotype to serve your own inferiority.
