I remember cranking up the volume when Al Green was on the radio. 1969. 1970. 1971. 1972. 1973. Munich Germany. He was much loved in Vietnam. Thank you for your gift from God. 🎉❤. I am a richer person having known your songs.
I am so grateful to the folks who upload these videos of the Kennedy Center Honors. They are always so tremendously moving. Magnificent angel Al Green!
i might get the hate but I feel that Al's style is so unique and wonderful that it's hard to find someone to sing his songs in their own way and bring that fire
EWT, Jennifer, Usher and Mavis doing some Al Green for the POTUS of all time!! I love how the Kennedy center celebrates all the musical treasures of our world.
My first true introduction to Al Green came around '72, '73. I was 12 or so and Al was one of my Dad's favorites. He, my mother and I had just gotten into the car for a four-hour drive to North Myrtle Beach. Daddy pushed Al's latest into the 8-track cassette player, and that's where it stayed for the entirety of the trip. "Are we going to have to listen to this for four hours?" I asked myself. But by the time we got to the beach, I was a bigger fan than my father.
I enjoy these Kennedy center honors. It is a privilege to live in an era when we were had such beautiful music and to see the generation who grew up with these legendary artist perform and honour them. Can’t imagine the joy of these performers who perform for the honourees
@@AgainstAllOddz Well, most people would agree that there is only one Al Green. On that particular song all other versions pale in comparison to the original.
Sitting in a restaurant in Lisbon, Portugal and they're playing Al Green. He's loved worldwide because his voice and songs are simple in sentiment but DEEP in delivery and FEELING. In other words, he is a GREAT artist who touches people's souls.
I worked with Al, and as stated, He is phenomenal, and his GOD given talent is unprecedented! In other words, there is only one Al Green, and GOD knew there could only be ONE!
1973 sitting in typing class I heard someone behind me singing this song(let's stay together). I turned around and it was this gorgeous light chocolate boy with a soft fro and green eyes. I think he was singing to me. Nothing ever happened but that was my song forever more. Today 2024, my 3 cchildren and I sing that together as loud as we can. Love you forever Al
Al Green was the first concert I’ve ever saw I still remember him handing out red roses and I was able to get one. Once he began singing gospel music he never look back I heard it was a terrible fight with a woman that threw a pot of hot grits on him made him change his ways he look deep inside of his self and said if I can make a woman that mad at me I’m doing something wrong and completely gave his life to God Hallelujah Amen
I have loved Al Green forever! Wonderful to see him honored. NO one could put as much emotion into his songs, with a breathless whisper or a gravelly growl. Thanks to him for filling so much of my life with his beautiful music.
Red, as a fan I want to ask you, from which track is that vocal from Al that starts at 1:40 ? I would REALLY like to know. For me, it's breathtaking. If you can tell me, I would be much obliged. Thanks already!
I saw Al Green at the Monterey Jazz Festival about 15 years ago. He was the main headliner of the Sunday night SRO show. Every time he sang a song ( and he sang them all), the audience would take over and sing the entire song. He just stood there smiling and serenading and having a great time. We will never see the likes of that again! Bless you, Mr Green!
President Obama GAVE US the BEST of ALL PRESIDENTS with this AWESOME ENTERTAINMENT! THANK YOU PRESIDENT OBAMA! WHAT A GREAT JOY YOU GAVE US ........... THANK YOU, THANK YOU & THANK YOU! SINCE YOU, there has been nothing but HATRED & MISERY!

Al greens smile brings so much joy to whomever sees it.It kinda reminds you of that one happy kid in the neighborhood.Always full of joy and seems to always wake up on the right side of the bed.
I fell in love with Rev Al because my momma had him on repeat, when we cleaned the house on saturday. Then I fell in love with his soulful vocals on my own. Rev Al was loving Jennifer singing, because she captured the sheer essence of the song, Simply Beautiful.
Anthony Mavis Staples received the Kennedy Center Honor this year 2016 from President Obama. It airs either tonight or tomorrow night I can't remember. I am so glued to the TV. BTW with the Eagles and James Taylor
Where's the love button on this comment because you absolutely nailed it! Al Green's music had so much depth and beauty to it...still does actually. I wish music could go back to this.
Hits! Beautiful, soulful Hits, every one of Al's songs. A beautiful honor for him. Baby, Jennifer Hudson was raised on Al's music to be able to perform it like that. So wonderful to see the big smile on Al's face. I do just like Whoopi on that intro to Love & Happiness.
