Our latest video is out! This time, we're in David Thompson Country, which is just off the Icefields Parkway! Incredible place for adventure: th-cam.com/video/hGOgs44lbhU/w-d-xo.html
We visited Banff, Lake Louise and the Columbia Ice fields in July of 2000. It was beautiful then but seeing it in the winter on your video makes me want to go there in the winter! Just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
Just check the weather before you go. I used to drive back and forth through the Ice Fields Parkway a couple times a month to see family in BC when I was working up in Rocky. One time the ice was so bad that I had both passenger side tires on sheer ice and I had to go 30-40 kph for most of the way from the southern start all the way to Saskatchewan Crossing and it took way longer than it usually does, very tiring and stressful too, because nobody else was out there. If I had crashed or broken down I would’ve been stranded until the next person drove that way.
Brought back my pleasant memories. My son who works in Calgary took me to all these places and I thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of our country which is out of this world. Thanks for my revisit. Halifax.Canada.

Awesome video! I have always wanted to do the trip from Vancouver but the winter conditions scared me into not driving on those roads. Maybe I’ll attempt it after all!
Oh yeah, totally doable. We've only done the Trans-Canada route and not the one north of Kamloops, but as long as you check road reports and its clear, it's fairly easy. I find the main issues are around Golden when avalanches happen and the road is closed for 1-2 days
We did same route 2 years back during Christmas. Though services were non existent and no cell service most of the way, it's was breathtakingly beautiful. Just be prepared with food , water and gas.
We've done part of the same route. We Love Train travel with lower GHG emissions. Train to Jasper then this trip south to Banff. - Runny nose ... Cold air, warm breath = condensation. A constant thing in winter.
@@MustDoCanada no, no, no... VIA Rail. Do Not book on-line. Call VIA or Amtrak in the U.S. and ask when are the Seat & Sleeper sales are. We save a bundle that way. Though the city with the least snow in Canada is probably Victoria, when it snowed for like 2 days the roads were not as well plowed so when your tires are worn out it’s hell
Loved your video. Will have to try that drive in the winter. Just a note. The Sienna they provided is not AWD, it's just FWD. The AWD Sienna XSE cannot come with the dark 20'' wheels like yours had, only silver 18" wheels. Also, AWD Siennas have the "AWD" badge in the back, which this one did not have. Only saying so because as good as this one was in the snow, imagine how much better the AWD version would have been!
I'm not sure about the vehicles in Canada, But the XSE and the Platinum models with 20" wheels in America do not have an all-wheel-drive option. I believe it was due to the extra load o the larger wheels with the addition of an extra traction motor placed on the hybrid system. Also, the AWD emblem would have been placed on the vehicle that you were driving if equipped. This is a good thing though as I also have a new 2021 XSE which I have yet to drive in bad weather conditions. If you felt it handled as well as you have mentioned and it did not have the AWD system as you thought then this proves their drivetrain is well balanced.
The more I drive this vehicle the more I’m impressed by it’s features and drivetrain. One question though, how long did it take to warm the cabin in these colder climates. The heater does not blow really well in my vehicle at first start, but maybe this was designed this way to heat the engine faster.
@@sal98 We sometimes found it that way as well actually. It did take a bit longer to heat up than other vehicles. We didn't pat attention enough to draw a conclusion, but I wish we had. It wasn't a big concern though...

My God it looks so amazing out there. I have never been out west. Beautiful couple, glad to see you again. :) My question is that do you think it's necessary to have ALL TERRAIN TIRES in order to survive a road trip from Toronto to Banff/Jasper? (not interested in crazy off-roading on purpose)
Hmm, well from Banff to Jasper, winter tires (or all-weather with the snowflake) are mandatory. Otherwise, you don't technically need them but they help. I prefer Toyo all-weather tires rather than having two sets. If you only have summer tires, it may not be a good idea because the highway can be quite icy.
@@MustDoCanada Noted. Thank you beautiful people. :) Yes I have summer and winter tires. Someone told me I should get 5 all terrain tires to make to trip but I don't wanna spend $$$ this way and have 3 sets of tires for 1 car.

And where? I really dont wanna miss the drive at icefields parkway.. so i am planning ahead.
Yes, I don't know why rental car companies aren't ahead of this. They need to have the snowflake symbol. www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/ab/jasper/activ/activ-experience/hiver-winter/pcghiver-ipwinter
The only thing that can be "unsafe" is the slippery roads. IF possible, try and have winter or snowflake-rated tires but otherwise, just drive a bit slower, brake in advance, and be cautious.
From what I heard your nose runs because part of your nose expands to heat the air coming into your body as its too cold for your body, this restricts the space for mucus and makes it come out faster and more.
