I just need to say, ur videos r so underrated, u should be one of the biggest youtubers. I been a fan for a long time and I hope u carry on adventuring 💙
Rosalind Russell is one of the most famous actresses of the 30’s-40’s. She co-starred with Cary Grant in one of the most well known slap-stick comedies ever, ‘His Girl Friday’. Definitely a film you’ll like!
There is someone working in the room across from that mirror downstairs. Watch at 15:25-15:35 when you’re talking and panning down hallway you can see reflections in that mirror 2-3 times. Very fast
I used to run the Arizona charter of the Southwest Ghost Hunters Association. Most of our investigations were in Tombstone, but when we moved to Prescott I was seriously hoping to check out some of the older buildings here and along 66. Never worked out (some of the businesses here are incredibly hostile to ghost hunters), but your video had me thinking about how much I would have enjoyed investigating up there.
There’s an old saloon still up & running in Virginia City right outside of Reno called the bucket of blood! One of my favorite old mining towns to visit with an old cemetery & tons of original buildings.
Really enjoy your adventures. You always put a smile on my face. You always have fun on your adventures. The Hotel El Rancho is so cool. I love that kind of things. Your Route 66 adventures are amazing. Keep up the fun.
Justin, Great video! My family and I have been through the EL Rancho several times. However, we’ve never stayed there. We’ve always been headed for Flagstaff or Williams in Arizona. Thanks so much for showing the inside of the rooms. We might just try that next time through.Keep up the great work and have a safe trip.
16:51 So true. I stayed at the National Hotel in Nevada City (Northern California). The outside and inside lobby/bar looked charming, historical, and had old west decor. I felt like I stepped back into the 1880s. However, when I got a room it was disgusting. Old worn out 1960s furniture, smelled of mold and cigars, noisy because the walls were thin and you could hear everything your neighbors said and did, food was pricey yet medicore, and the staff was terribly rude. It really turned me off from ever staying in a historical hotel again.
Justin, great video of an AMAZING yet creepy looking hotel! Rosalind Russell was an AMAZING beautiful and talented actress who was mostly famous in the late 1940s and early 1950s. She's best known for her role playing opposite Cary Grant in "His Girl Friday" which is an excellent film that's often credited as the inspiration for the TV series Dragnet. Actresses Loretta Young and Irene Dunne were her best friends. I found out about Rosalind Russell's career 17 years ago when I was researching the film careers of Loretta Young and Carl Switer ("Alfalfa" from the original Little Rascals cast of the 1930s and 1940s). Alfalfa had "blink and you'll miss him" bit roles in their films appearing as an adult, and so my being a biographer of his for a time i fell in love with those beautiful ladies while trying to spot Alfalfa in their films. Trust me. You'll love them.
My family owns the El Rancho and the closed stores along the Arizona/NM border. I used to live in the El Rancho for about eight months when we were moving across town. You got to go to red rock state park which is my absolute favorite! Glad you love New Mexico and were able to support some businesses along the way!
Nice to see your travels on Route 66. Haven't been in New Mexico since the 1970s when 66 was still a main highway. From the knife shop I can tell it was a Stuckey's Store from the shape of the building it was one of my favorite places to stop at . They had quite few of them in the US and mainly along route 66.
Another great video!! Thank you for taking the time to create these awesome "travel log" videos(and your other videos). They remind me alot of my childhood. We didn't go to fancy resorts, we went to small town places and camped or rented a cottage. PS...When you got to run the train at Knott's was great!
Too broke to buy merch so I watched & clicked the ad to support Justin (did both since you never know if the advertiser paid for watches or clicks lol). Gotta support your fav small youtubers in whichever ways you can :D
Great video Justin. I’ve stayed at the El Rancho a few times and I’ve always had positive experiences there. Just as you said, be sure to call ahead ask for a room in the main building. Your awesome research & fun video has educated me more about this Route 66 icon. Thank you so much! Cheers, Shellee G.
Any one notice in the hallway when Justin turned the camera around right after saying he kept seeing someone. Something poking out of a doorway on the left, was it a reflection or something else
We are in Gallup and traveling Route 66 backwards! Love all of your videos & the El Rancho is for sure on our list but we found out about some scary stories. You are awesome, thanks!
I love the example he sets by buying something at the places he stops. It's literally how they stay in business. Gotta do our part, or be doomed to lose all our highway points of interest!
This video was great! Makes me sad that we didn't stay at the El Rancho on our trip. Now we really have to return to the West so that we can! Loved all the scenery--it brought back all the great memories. I'm glad Julio is back to his normal handsome self.
I stayed in El Rancho one night in 1976. I'm not sure my story fits within your theme, but it might. I was opening a one-man photographic exhibition in the community room gallery of the Gallup Public Library. Having invited some out-of-town guests, I rented a room at El Rancho, just in case. The opening proved a little under-attended and disappointing, so I over-inbibed on a punch bowl full of margaritas. Unable to drive or return home (about 60 miles away), I crawled over to El Rancho where I lay my head down for the night. Ah, celebrity . . .
I'm glad you noticed the vents in the doors. Those vents are how to get the cooled evaporative air in and out of the rooms. Circulation is key for evaporative cooling. Unless the hotel has made the major upgrade within the last few years, I think they are still using the evaporative cooling, and those door vents are still beneficial.
I live in SW Missouri, an have Driven Route 66 3 times. But I never got to Stay in the El Rancho on those Trips. Always Full. However, my Kids live in Salt Lake City, an last Year I Drove the old Route 666, the Devils Hwy (491 Now) from Monticelo Utah to Gallop NM. Just to Stay at the El Rancho for the First Time. Loved every Second of it. Even stayed in the John Wayne Room. 💕
Justin I love your Route 66 videos I have been watching your videos ever since you visited the house with the mini Disneyland in the back yard you’re an awesome guy keep up the amazing work
As a resident of southeast New Mexico I have never visited the El Rancho. That will now change. I'm booked for the end of the month. Hope to see the unseen, dearly departed.
btw. thank you for sharing this experience. I've been up and down and all over Az. as a kid. Never saw this before. Very AWESOME. Gotta take my son here!
Julio cleaned up, spooky hotel, love the neon and decorations! The Yellowhorse family shops look so beautiful with such grand backdrops. Happy Adventures, Mahalo for bringing us along~~~ \!!!/ AlooooooOOOOOOOOOHA (can't wait till you go way out west, mid pacific and say AloOOOOha *:)
The best reason to visit is it was built in 1937. The best reason to stay somewhere else is it was built in 1937! The rooms are drafty and cold in winter, and never cool enough in summer. Still a neat place. The El Rancho IS CLASSIC! It is worth stopping for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Food IS EXCELLENT! When I travel, I like a swimming pool and Hot tub. I guess I'm kinda picky that way. So I stay elsewhere?
This is a new subscriber here and I love your videos. I'm from Gallup, New Mexico, and I've never been in the El Rancho Hotel. Can't wait for the next one....
Love your vlogs, big fans. When we watched this vlog, you talked about feeling weird, spooky, well two times during filming we saw weird things ,one at 15:25 on the left down the hall it did look like someone was sticking it’s head out from the door or wall. Also at 19:55 there was a strange arm behind your shoulder and it wasn’t your reflection, weird..... Big fans Veronica and Todd
The prime reason I subbed to you is because you did a video about hannibal Missouri ! I live there. Not currently but I still have a house there.. they changed the light house and they are extending the boat area out so it can handle many more boats. Not worth a trip to make a video about it but maybe in a few years we’ll do more worth you’re while
Oh wow! How odd. I was the first poster and it felt odd that I was the only one who had posted on this awesome video. When I checked, out of curiosity, to see if my post was at the bottom is the comments it was gone. How strange. I didn't say anything bad so I don't understand why my comment totally vanished. Weird.
Hi from the UK. A couple of years ago we were on rented Harleys and visited Gallup during our roadtrip. Called in at the El Rancho for an evening meal. The service was slow and some of the orders were wrong. Don't think it lives up to the hype.
I believe they filmed an old Kirk Douglas movie right around that trading post. It was called Ace In The Hole , I recognized the backdrop. In the movie there was a mine there.
I just need to say, ur videos r so underrated, u should be one of the biggest youtubers. I been a fan for a long time and I hope u carry on adventuring 💙
Happy to see Julio back to his “dapper” self!
At 19:55 I didn't realize you were standing in front of the TV and was like OH GOD WHERE'D THAT ARM COME FROM lolol
Right... Same here. Had to rewind... Lol.
Same! I was like 'wait, what?' and had to go back and check it :p
I rewound 3 times. Lol
HaHa I thought the same thing! I backed it up to watch again.

the cowboy hat is a good look on you man.
@Alter Ego same here all I think of is Clint Black looks alike.
The “Oooooooold” West is back, and so is Julio
It was something to see when my family and I drove on it in 1952
There is someone working in the room across from that mirror downstairs. Watch at 15:25-15:35 when you’re talking and panning down hallway you can see reflections in that mirror 2-3 times. Very fast

Rick Stevenson Did you ever “ see” Morgan Earp? That would be amazing! I love Tombstone , Bisbee and Prescott!

Hey Justin, It looked like some one ' A ghost" maybe was sneaking peeks at you!. I loved the video , And that Hotel is amazing!.
"I don't like to make in the dark" LOLOL hilarious
I freaked out at 19:55 because I saw an arm (without a coat) appear and vanish behind you!!! just the television, I think but...
Justin, Great video! My family and I have been through the EL Rancho several times. However, we’ve never stayed there. We’ve always been headed for Flagstaff or Williams in Arizona. Hey brother you should have your own show on the travel channel
Dude I live in gallup NM and my mom was the woman in the gift shop! She remembers you!!

Justin, you should put the Randomland "R" symbol on your new Cowboy hat! In white to contrast the colours of your cap!
I love this. Your post just made my day.
Rosalind Russell starred with Cary Grant in a 1930’s classic film: His Girl Friday.
Great movie.
Not to mention Gypsy (1962), Auntie Mame (1958) and Picnic (1955). Plus a long list of other movies.
You make the best Route 66 videos. I always enjoy the tours of the many places you stop.
Too broke to buy merch so I watched & clicked the ad to support Justin (did both since you never know if the advertiser paid for watches or clicks lol). Gotta support your fav small youtubers in whichever ways you can :D
Rosalind Russell played one of my favorite characters of all time. Aunite Mame!! Thanks for sharing, I'm slightly interested in staying there.
As soon as you sat in the chair I started the king of the castle right before you! Great vlog!

Epic!!! Need to reserve a room someday. Always love your tours and enthusiasm. Happy trails!
Absolutely wonderful video. We love that drive, too, as well as the El Rancho. Thanks Justin, from Arkansas.
Land of enchantment

Great video Justin. Appreciate your love of all the quirky stuff
El Rancho looks absolutely fantastic!

I love to explore old historical places like that. It's exciting and educational, and so much fun! BTW, looking good Julio!
That hallway was way too creepy.
As a resident of southeast New Mexico I have never visited the El Rancho. That will now change. I'm booked for the end of the month. Hope to see the unseen, dearly departed.

Hello Justin, great vlog!! Dave and Jeanne Rose from Wickenburg Arizona
Rosalind Russel was in one of my favorite movies with Haley Mills, 'The Trouble with Angels.'
The AUNTIE MAME room! WOW!! If you've never seen it, watch the film. Off-the-hook funny!! True classic.
I always enjoy your route 66 videos. Thanks for posting. Cheers from Ontario Canada.
This is a new subscriber here and I love your videos. I'm from Gallup, New Mexico, and I've never been in the El Rancho Hotel. Can't wait for the next one....
That is a neat hotel Justin! I want to visit there in my Route 66 trip in future
I was just in Holbrook, AZ this past July! Thank you for the memories :)
The inside kinda reminds me of the overlook hotel from the shining, with a Mexico/Indian twist. Great video as usual, I always look forward to them.
Keep livin' that dream pal!
That hotel looks so cool
Bro that place is amazing would love to Visit there someday.
Awesome!!!!

I love your videos!! As someone with celiac disease, you give me hope to learn better ways to travel with this sucky autoimmune disease ❤️❤️
5 sides is pentagon...interesting hotel...
Look at time stamp 19:55 looks like a ghost arm came into screen
I like the hat. Both of them work well for you.

Great video Justin! Thank you for all you do. 👍🏼🤘🏼😎
I just want to say that you're actually pulling off that other hat pretty well.
Hat 🎩 looks great
😆 bro indeed you are also an old soul like I am. I've not heard anyone say "I don't wanna make in the dark" in many many years (over 30 years)! 😆
Oh wow! How odd. I was the first poster and it felt odd that I was the only one who had posted on this awesome video. I'm so disappointed, Justin. You didn't make your usual "The only thing I can make is a mess" joke. For shame, Justin. For shame.
Oh hell no! That hallway looks beyond scary!
Monique MnK The hallway reminds me of the one from The Shining
Aww I’m happy you like New Mexico I’m from Las Cruces New Mexico!🙂
i'd love to travel route 66 one day :') thank you for all the videos!!!!!

This is amazing! But you should do a horse trail ride someday out there
