Nice one Deano!... I must admit mate... That some of my family stayed at the Grand Hotel in Scarborough about ten years ago... And they weren't happy with the state of the building at all... It was in a very tired state... And obviously had been neglected over a period of many years... It's such a shame when hotel owners take their guests money... And let the building get into a shocking state of disrepair... But i'm quite shocked and surprised to see that the Grand Hotel Scarborough has actually had many of it's previous problems rectified... Is it the perfect hotel?... No of course not... Is it perfectly acceptable and pleasant to the vast majority of holidaying guests?... Yes absolutely!... Apart from the dirty windows in your room... And those pesky Seagulls making a nuisance of themselves on the Terrace... The rest of the hotel looked to be pretty decent mate... And for just £39.00 per night it's an absolute bargain... Especially as it also includes evening entertainment provided... Within the cost of the rooms... I've actually stayed at some Travelodge's that have genuinely cost more than that... And it was for just a basic small room with a Bed... Bathroom... T.V... Writing Desk... Tea & Coffee Making Facilities... Mirror... Wardrobe... And that's about it!. I think that there are some ways in tackling some of the Seagull problems at the Grand Hotel... For instance... There are plastic strips with pointed plastic stems that prevent birds from perching on roofs and window ledges... There are also things like decoy Raptor Birds of Prey... Which can be deployed on various locations on and around the hotel... Raptors like... Peregrine Falcons... Harris Hawks... Osprey's... Kestrels... etc... As well as having real audio of these Raptors... Simply to scare away the Seagulls... Also it would probably be advisable to have a local Falconer bring in some of their real Raptors periodically... Just to keep those annoying Seagulls in check... I'm sure that the Falconer would be happy at taking as part payment for their services... Dinner at the Grand Hotel for two people twice every month... Also the Grand Hotel could inquire about getting a see through covering for their entire Terraced area... Which would prevent Seagulls from using it as a toilet... Then their hotel guests could actually enjoy sitting out on the Terrace on a nice warm Summers day... And not have to worry about having themselves or their drinks... Having an unwanted deposit... Courtesy of these swarming fearless Seagulls... Many thanks for the video Deano... It really was a very pleasant eye opener my friend... All the best... Cheers mate. 🍺
Love this hotel every room I've had as been beautiful amd the public spaces are clean and stunningly beautiful. Entertainment is good too when i went had 4 people singing and dancing x
The trouble is these days, is that people expect the sort of ultra modern finishes etc that they find abroad. To the people saying it needs investment, you can plainly see its getting it> Even small things like the old fashioned keys and large fobs, compared to the new card lock systems. Just think how much it would be to change all the locks on every room, well it would need doors replacing so there weren't patches on doors, and that would be just changing a minor thing. It's a bit like the old holiday camps, they are a thing of their time and people need to see the character in them
That was a good, fair, honest review Deano....it's a lovely old building...as most of the Britannia Hotels seem to be...takes a lot of money to upkeep them...looks like they are starting to decorate finally going by the fresh paint on the walls.! the staircase was beautiful. The entertainment is what it is i guess...i would have gone to film night...couple of decent old films to look back on lol....and don't mind a bit of Abba either for a fun night...and was that a night of Journey (Don't sop Believing)? or a rock night ? It looks like they are trying to improve the hotel so good on them x
Yes Deano. I agree with your hotel review it's no where near the worst hotel. I would stay there myself Great view of the coast as well See you at breakfast
Most hotels are around10am check out and2pm check in so4pm is way late for checking in.Most places will let you off paying extra for late check out and/or check in but often depends on the member of staff you deal with.
It looked like a good deal for £39, Deano. Especially with a sea view room. Although part of me would have liked to have seen the no windows dungeon room, but you can't have everything. Anyway, another great review!
They did it up a little bit when they were getting all the bad reviews that’s why it had such a bad reputation they had to do something. We waited in a queue for 3 hrs once to check in to be put in a basement room only a shower no air con it was the worst nights sleep we’ve ever had and my lass said, “I will never stay there again!” Which we haven’t since.
Hi deano seen worse hotels. Let's be honest how old is the grand. I would stay there it looks clean. Not nice with those seagulls, but the views and the weather you've been lucky . Ann in Cumbria. 😊😊😊.
39 quid a night !! Why do people moan . It's a seaside town , go out and get pissed and get ya head down for a cheap price . Can't see the problem. It's the grand hotel . I've worked there back in 2011 and it's not changed tbh apart from alot of foreign staff . ! Value for money
I've been to Scarborough grand hoteltill this year we never had any complaints but the room we was first given had damp stains and plaster falling on to beds very small then got bigger room still had a like wet looking plaster over in-between beds this is first time we had any problem s and I know we had an issue then but will still be going back next year
Deano worst hotel is in Liverpool ,but with a twist it is haunted. Many famous youtube vloggers have stayed there can you find your way.The true shining hotel make your way to the Adelphi
We have terrible problems with the SkyRats here in Great Yarmouth too. They nest on the roof of my workplace and the stench of their 💩 in summer is vile 🤮
My mind must be bad but when you opened the closet I thought I saw smallish handcuffs and my first thought was why is a hotel offering handcuffs in a bedroom🤔🤣😂.I'm out of the loop but thought you would pay£49.99for a room but that would include breakfast. The hotel could put a cover over half of the terrace to help with the🕊️ problem. If they put some investment into the hotel by naybe making a few rooms bigger and charging accordingly it could be a lovely hotel. Is there parking available?I don't think hotels these days should be charging for wifi when it's pretty much used and required by everyone.
Deano the free upgrades are normally for rooms that have not been used for a while and they need a person to stay in and run the taps and shower to clean them out, just saying 😂
I’ve stayed in the grand hotel many times as a kid with my family and even now as a adult I love that hotel and I have a 5 day stay coming up this August unfortunately it is going to cost me more than you paid
You are right this hotel is quite nice,I would stay there, your room was ok quite small but for the price ok and for one person ok. If this is the worse wow the best must be impressive
We are here now it's absolutely disgusting we are in a room on floor -2 no towels or toilet roll, it stinks of bird poo and dampness the windows are absolutely disgusting full of bird poo we want to go home just travelled 4 hours by public bus to get here with a child, we are dredding sleeping there tonight, no WiFi either unless we pay extra, rooms are stuffy if the windows are closed because of the bird poo smell, avoid
To think I paid £55 in 1999 to stay in the rougest place ever Collyhurst in Manchester. The flats opposite looked condemned, the fire doors to the bar were wide open, full of locals smoking weed, barbed wire and an Alsation patrolling outside our window, middle of Summer and the heating was stuck on. All in all the Grand seems like The Ritz in comparison ! 👍
Me and my assistance dog stayed there in 2018 (ish). £30 for the room for one night. My only complaint was the long queue to check-in. Like you, I'd stay there again. It's also a short distance from the railway station and if you plan it in advance you can hire a full-size mobility scooter from the shop across the road from the hotel.
As a local, we do not recommend that you eat in the grand. It is well known for People getting sick from food poisoning, or the Norwalk virus so I think you had a lucky escape but to be fair, the decor is a hell of a lot better since I was last in there
I'm a local i used to know someone who used to walk into the Grand hotel Saturday and Sunday morning pick up a newspaper gi and sit in the dining room waitress used to gi iver to him asj what he would like for Breakfast order a full English est it and wslk out ang go home having had a free Breakfast he'd do it regularly

HAving tried Britannia Breakfasts, they are absolutely awful now. The buffet looked OK, but the food was all cold. When asked if they could prodce some fresh or reheat what I selected, they reheated it. It was still awful. The only time to have breakfsat is when they have coach parties in. I see that the price is £34 for a night. It's just a pity that the foos wa a disappointment. When I first stayed at a Britania, the meals were cooked to order, rather than the common thing now with a hot and cold buffet. Unless you go and eat when they open, you will be disappointed. Thanks for the Grand Tour Deano
Hi deano, it looks good now. Great video. It's used to house 90 Afghanistan, Refugee hotel, they crapped in the beds lifts and hallways 😮😮😮

Last year I had a brilliant five days here .was on the first floor with window out to front but couldn't fault it. Hoping to get there again soon 👍
Myself and my daughter has stopped at the grand for years we are going in October love it 😊😊😊
The hotel looks amazing I love the history of this building
Go to Scarborough quite often, and would certainly stay there. At £39 its great value. It must have been a fabulous place when it was in it's Pomp.

See you at breakfast
Looks amazing. Can stay in more expensive places without everything that's going on there. £39 seems very good value.
Stayed there this year with friends and although a bit tired looking in parts ,was a great stay for the money and would stay again
What a building so beautiful I stopped at the Adelphi hotel Liverpool many years ago it was stunning so sad to see them declining.
