- This is a compilation of a few Ridley noises from every mainline Metroid game (plus Smash Bros) up until this video's release. I didn't include the Ridley Robot from Zero Mission because a) it doesn't roar and b) it isn't actually Ridley. However, I did include a bonus clip for fun.
I love how Ridley is canonically intelligent enough to speak, but he just doesn't. Maybe his vocal cords are incompatible? Maybe he just chooses to be mute? Who knows.

Fun fact, Ridley is capable of speech, he just really likes screaming because it makes him seem more like the monster he is.
Some day, I just want Ridley in the games to just suddenly go like “You know what? Fuck you, Aran. I’m going home. Fuck the pirates, and fuck this job.”

If Ridley ever had a voice and spoke in something like English, I envision him being voiced by Steven Blum, drawing inspiration from his role as Starscream in Transformers: Prime.
I feel like William Dafoe would also be a good choice

@Norman nah, too refined I think. Ridley is cunning, but he's also a violent monster who doesn't try to hide behind a layer of refinement like Dracula or Count Dooku. I personally don't see Christopher Lee working that well for him, as awesome as he is.
I dunno.. I imagined him with an accented, high-pitched voice. Something akin to Frieza.

Ridley is the only enemy Samus genuinely fears literally to the point that the first time she encountered him as an adult she had a panic attack though the game didn't do a good job portraying it but Samus has ptsd after seeing both of her parents and everyone she new and loved being brutally slaughtered by him

Well, canonically Ridley is dead for sure. It last remains of existence were the Parasite X's copy and it got destroyed and absorbed by Samus in the Fusion events.
With no chance of reviving, reconstructing or cloning bullshit, Ridley literally has stopped to exist in the Metroid universe. And I haven't played Metroid Dread yet and I heavily doubt Ridley would do a comeback.

It's rather appropriate he sounds like a xenomorph considering Metroid's inspiration
Didn't realize they stole Angurius's roar until you pointed it out. This isn't the first time Nintendo has done something like this though. In the Pokémon anime, Giratina and Lunala have Mothra's screech.

I remember when I learned that ridley wasn’t some mindless creature (most of the time)
And was in fact intelligent enough to speak and was the leader of the space pirates. Wish we’d see that in game since not everyone’s aware of the comics but whatever.
I would LOVE to see that one confrontation from the manga professionally voiced. The one where he mocks Samus about the destroyed colony and explains how me might be regenerated from pieces of her parents’ corpses. “Oh, but where could they be~? Are they up here? Or maybe down there… tell me, Samus, do I have your mother’s eyes~?”

If they had respected Ridley as a character more than just "ooo spookey monstr" and there were, i dunno, some flashback involving something actual ridley said at one point, then... yeah it mighta made a difference

Thanks for this video; it's fantastic to finally hear clean rips of Ridley's Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion screeches without being obscured by music, missile firing, etc. like in every other video on TH-cam. I suppose the only thing missing from this video would be Ridley's sounds from Nintendo Land.
Thanks for the input. I had to rip them out the games' soundfonts, and even then I had to mess with the pitch a little to get them sounding like they did in-game

I do enjoy how Prime 3: Corruption is actually attempting in all its glory to sound like the SNES versions evolution. Even the Brawl Version pays tribute with its scream.
Anguirus In Disguise!🎵🎶
Super Metroid's Ridley genuinely sounds similar to Anguiras from Godzilla to me. I wonder if they sound sampled the kaiju to get the voice effect. Funny, as I've always associated that sound with him due to Super Metroid's impact on my childhood. But I never made the connection until now, despite being a huge Godzilla fan.
Yeah the original sample is definitely Anguiras, I extracted the files and it sounds exactly the same. They've changed the pitch a little for the in-game playback tho
In fact, most of the bosses took some of Godzilla's iconic Kaijus roars into theirs. Look at mother brain, can you believe it's Mothra's cry? That's amazing!
Yeah, other bosses use a pitched down version of Titanosaurus as well.
Came for the Fusion Ridley, stayed for the Zero Mission Ridley
I think my favorite voice is Other M. If they got one thing right in that trainwreck of a game, it was the sound design.

I personally thought Other M was a good game. The gameplay was pretty good, but my ONE problem with the game itself was Adam..

At this point they really should be consistent with ridley's roar. I vote for fusion's ridley scream to be the one going forward, they already reused it for zero mission and it's the most memorable.

@@meta9492 primes a diferent timeline apparently. also, despite other M being a clone and fusion being an X mimic of the metroid-suck-dry remains of said clone, it still was just as angry for seeing samus apparently.

I'm not sure if I prefer the more screechy voice or the deeper roars, but in recent years it seems like they've settled on a nice combination of the two.

If you told 12 year old me that there was a sci-fi game featuring a character in a spacesuit with a cannon for an arm who fights a cyborg space dragon for the console I owned I would've *_stampeeded_* to the nearest retailer. They are lucky those examples panned out well enough. But still refuse to give link a voice. Which yes, I know is because he's meant to be a self insert. But if they actually give link a voice and dialouge. People would more or less complain it being other m 2.0

I think it's more the fact that the game cared too much about Samus' gender and how Adam is a bad character. Furthermore, that game had terrible dubbing due to cultural differences, gameplay that could have been nice but with terrible controls and a map that was too simple for a metroid

Man I want like a detailed timeline of Ridleys ‘lifes’ across these games.
Order is as follows: Metroid/Zero Mission, then the Prime trilogy, then Samus Returns, then Super Metroid, then Other M, then Fusion.
After his first defeat in the first game, he gets cybernetically rebuilt by the Space Pirates in Prime and Prime 3, loses some of his cybernetics as his flesh regrows in Samus Returns, becomes fully organic by the beginning of Super Metroid, truly dies in Super Metroid, then gets cloned in Other M (where his full life cycle is shown). His clone then gets killed by a Queen Metroid in Other M, and that clone's corpse gets consumed by an X Parasite in Fusion, that X becoming Neo Ridley, which then gets defeated and absorbed by Samus in Fusion, eliminating the last traces of Ridley as the station his corpse was on ended up self-destructing as well.

1st it plays in the purple planet as exaltons sounds
2nd it played in terracre ore cave after something stole a glowing stone
