My favorite two hacks are I store my yarn in a plastic shopping bag with the bag taped together to put the yarn in and let it hang keeps it clean and east to store if you don't use it all I usual just write the hook size on the label too. If am doing a huge project and need lots of yarn I use the jumbo round gallon water pitchers to stand my yarn up in.
Like you, I don’t like my yarn ball rolling around. A friend taught me when I create a ball to wind it around my thumb. Start by winding the yarn around 2-3 fingers, then put your thumb in the middle with the end sticking out along out toward your wrist. Then continue wrapping around the yarn and your thumb until done. It keeps the yarn from getting too stretched out and give you a center pull. I also sometimes stick the ball label rolled up into the “thumb hole” of the finished ball so that I have it if I need it later.
Thank you so much!! I am semi disabled thanks to a stroke 2 years ago and if I had some hacks I forgot them! Goodness I have had to relearn how to crochet!!! These are priceless for me. I have used the bit of yarn as a stitch marker.
These are all so clever. I have been crocheting for over 50 years and these are going to make my life so much easier for the next 50 years 😁😂 (I wish🤞) but thank you so, so much 🇬🇧
Oh my goodness thank you for these tips wow totally needed these tips I surely go along with that little saying out of everything I've lost I miss my mind the most but I don't forget crochet stitches just certain things thank you again !!!God Bless you!!!❤❤
These were helpful, thank you. I do two of them differently. Re putting the yarn in a bowl so it won’t roll around, I put mine in an old ice cream container with a hole cut in the lid. It can roll its little heart out in there. But you need to make sure the hole is smooth. I suggest sanding around it after you cut it. When I’m going to put my project away, and worry I might forget the hook size, I put it in a zip lock bag with the hook size noted on a bit of paper in the bag with it. I rarely use my phone, that’s why. But thank you for these ideas. I particularly liked the last one where you save the label. I’ll be doing that, for sure.
I knew about the purse hack. I’ve been doing it for years. But I had to shop around to find stitch markers, but finally found some, but I wish I’d known about the Bobby pin before because I have lots of those. And the last one was good because I have lost a sleeve and try to match up the yarn color so this has been very helpful.thank you
I save odd drink and cleaning wipes and wetwipes containers & lids for my scrap yarns. I remove the plastic tabs inside and file smooth. I then drill or make a small hole (about a pencil size) into top of used clean wet wipes containers and stash small yarn balls. When there's enough, I crochet beanies/hats or gloves with that yarn. I tend to put colors that I know will work together. I have an antique yarn holder of my grandma's that is nothing but a plastic container with a hole for the yarn ❤
Awesome tips! I take pictures of my hooks with projects all the time. I post them on Facebook and put them in a folder. This way I can look back at it. I also try to list the yarn details. 😊🧶😁
I have. To dad, I just take those charms with numbers on them and I will put them on a stitch marker and put them on my work. So that way I remember what hook I was using, cause. It has the number on it, but they have some with alphabets too, and you can do that with that. That's another hat too you can do.
So glad I found you!! I have crocheted for many yrs but must say "THANK YOU" for sharing your tips they are just "AWSOME"!! HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! DebraAnna
Brilliant tips video I surprised myself in that I use some but others I will now use I particularly liked hearing the word Bobby pin as my Mum lived in Canada for some years and used the name Bobby pin ( here in the UK we just say hair grips obviously bobby pin sounds way better ) and reminds me of my Mum ( who was a great knitter)
Thank you so much!! I am semi disabled thanks to a stroke 2 years ago and if I had some hacks I forgot them! Goodness I have had to relearn how to crochet!!! These are priceless for me.
I myself don’t like to use safety pins. Only for the fact they can come undone and they don’t have a blunt end. But yes, that is an option. Thank you. 😁
The making the thicker yarn from a thinner doesn’t work for someone who is left handed. I tried several times and almost pulled my hair! This does work when I did a backwards s. Sometimes the hacks work the other way for leftys. Otherwise thanks for combining a lot of tips
