    Kristen Stewart's casting is a good example of Hollywood casting the current flavour of the month and thinking that means they will be good. Colin Farrel in Alexander would be another perfect example of that.

      +CursedMonkey I don't blame Stewart for her performance in this movie. Snow White had literally NO personality in that film, she was hardly even a character. Hard to give a really compelling performance when you aren't given an actual character to play.

      +Uncle Joe Not really, the movie tells you that the Queen is super beautiful but rotten on the inside, while Snow White is pretty and a good person. So she wins the overall beauty contest.

      @MtAnimepredator What are you talking about? She's great at acting as a: celebrity, lesbian, actress, rocker... and soon enough she'll be acting in another crap franchise because that is what Hollywood does best lately. Hire talentless people to fill in the "look" while forgetting that movies are more than just looks.

    Man. Emily Browning in this role would have made it way better. I just can't get behind Kristen Stewart. She's so one note. I was really surprised to see her in Zathura playing a part other than brooding girl with a smelling shit look on her face, and actually breaking away from that to be an animated personality.

    I tried to watch this movie at least 4 times. It's one of those rare movies that I just kept falling asleep or getting distracted and pulled away from. Like one time I was watching it and I remembered I needed to clip my toe nails and then forgot to keep watching it afterwards. One thing I can remember is I don't know what the hell the mirror and all the crazy drwarves and huntsmen and cgi monsters and castles and queens and Ninja warrior princesses we're or what they meant or we're supposed to mean.
    I think you need to study for years and stay up all night studying and torture and whip yourself to force yourself to remember what the hell is going on in this movie. It's like a black hole where nothing escapes. It's impossible to see into it. You can only see the absence of light. Very weird. I hope to be able watch it someday when I'm stronger and smarter.

      This stuff happens a lot, they just got caught. Granted it wasn't right in front of his spouse like this, but it's not much different than the Michael Morris/Katherine McPhee situation if you consider that Michael Morris is still married to the woman he cheated on. For what it's worth, Kristen denied having sex with Rupert yet she seems to hook up with people she meets while "working" a lot and meanwhile Katherine is out here like "No regrets, biiiiiitch."

    2 Corrections;
    Caribbean has one "R" two "B"s, and is pronounced "Kuh-rib-be-an" NOT "Kar-a-be-an"
    Erzebet Bathory was rumored to bathe in the blood of young maidens, but that rumor was most likely started by a ruling class adversary and blown out of proportion by the common class and everyone's love of a good legend.
    There was likely something less than good going on with the Bathory estate as there were a few disappearances, but no where near as many as legend would have you believe, and could have been part of the set-up.

    There was so much good stuff to work with to a create an epic story and a unique take on the Snow White character and her relationship with the Evil Queen, but no....he instead just took everything he could think of and threw them against the wall, hoping for something to stick, with no significance from one item to the other. I would use a reference back to the women who scarred themselves to protect themselves from Ravinia by having Snow White scar herself in front of Ravinia, which would send the queen into a panicked rage and having a choke-wrestling fight between the two, rolling around on the floor all over the place, with Snow White's blood dripping on Ravinia's face which makes her weaker rather than stronger. Just as Ravinia makes a last ditch effort to kill Snow White by plunging the knife into her, Snow White flips the Queen into the mirror, and oops the knife goes into the mirror instead, ending Ravinia and her evil magic and truly proving that Snow White is nothing like Ravinia rather than just saying so. As Ravinia writhes in her death pangs, turning into chards of broken mirror, Snow White lends a moment of empathy and tries to console the queen who persists in her evil by trying to curse the girl but is finally finished off before the curse is completed...or did it? Snow White gets to keep her scar as a badge of honor, but she is still too beautiful for anyone to care. Throw in the victory party in the end and the Huntsman looking on out of feeling proud of Snow White's sacrifice rather than eyeing her creepily before walking off back into the wilderness.

    Ugh if only they had got Emily Browning instead of Stewart. She is nowhere near attractive enough for the role of Snow White. The whole point is that she is prettier than the queen. Does anyone believe Stewart is prettier than Theron?

      nope, on the other hand I would definitely argue that Stewart was prettier in the film than Emily would have been so there's that. Beauty is very subjective. Charlize Theron is really hot still though

    The movie is very underrated and overlooked take on Snow White. My only problem is casting Kristen Stewart. She is cute but not near as beautiful as Charlize nor was she equal match to her beauty. I have a feeling more people will rediscover this movie in 2025 when Disney releases their live action version of Snow White.

    There are a few things that tick me off about this movie:
    1. The Evil Queen has no personality. "Countess Dracula" is this same situation, BUT we see she's being pushed over the edge by many people telling her she's getting older in a very brutal way. You DO feel bad for her. This...no. Heck, "Mirror Mirror" was much more entertaining seeing as the Queen was so self-centered she didn't realize she was the reason her kingdom was in ruin. Hopefully Disney will get someone like Catherine Zeta-Jones for theirs and at LEAST give her a personality ala Queen Regina.
    2. Universal has had a better subversive "Snow White" movie in development, a live action "Ever After High" movie. In that one, Raven Queen and Apple White are two of the students expected to live out the stories generation after generation. But Raven isn't evil and would rather be a musician. Apple, after having a traumatic experience in childhood and knows she would have to bite the poisoned apple, is trying to get Raven to do it so she can get the unpleasantness over with and concentrate on becoming a leader like her mother. And the Evil Queen in this one is so terrible, she displaced the Wonderlandians and is kept in a mirror prison...until she gets out. Why they wasted money on a sequel to this film instead of making EAH proves Universal is clueless.
    3. Universal released a better fantasy movie the previous year, "Your Highness". The problem with that one was the director's insistence on a hard R, but it's still a sendup of the golden age of fantasy films and was poorly marketed, IMO. Ironically, Lily Cole played Justin Theroux's gorgeous sidekick in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi". :)

    Interesting that having an affair with the lead actrees never harmed Len Wiseman (Kate Bekinsale). Sanders aint the first director to "date" one of the leads, and will not be the last .The real reason that got Sanders in the shit was the less than expected box office, IMO. Could nt really punish Stewart for that, so they used the affair as an excuse.
    I mean, Hugh Grant got caught picking up a street corner hooker and kept getting work.

    I agree with you on Kristen Stewart, she's definitely not as bad of an actress as people make her out to be. I think like you initially, a lot of people have only seen her in Twilight and judge her acting strictly on that, when the truth is Twilight was such a bad movie that no actor or actress could have looked good in it, and the fact that it was essentially her big break screwed her over even more.

    • @GoodBadFlicks
      @GoodBadFlicks  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Lizzie Anderson Agreed. Its not that she was terrible in Twilight, its that Bella is a terrible character. Part of me wants them to reboot it (they have been hinting for the past few years) to see if a different actress could make it better or she would still be awful regardless.

    • @TexZenMaster
      @TexZenMaster 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +GoodBadFlicks I haven't seen all her films, but Twilight, Panic Room, American Ultra, and this film have convinced me that she has the acting range of a household sponge. There might be impressive, oscar-worthy performances in her other films, but when an actor is reliably bland and forgettable in multiple films...it dissuades any future watching.
      There are far more expressive, interesting, and better looking young actresses out there for *any* role she might be cast in. She is chosen in these films because of her weak, helpless, and bland screen presence. (Stoner/Uninteresting Every-girl/Sickly/Dying)
      No hate intended, just no interest what-so-ever. I keep wondering what proven incredible actresses might have done with those roles. (better)

      +everett von scott Probably, because he had more to lose. A cheating actress, especially one as "big" as Kristen can still get work. A director on the other hand, can be thrown away just, because of the amount of controversy surrounding them.
      Granted they were both being pretty shitty for doing it, career wise he should have known better.

  • @CoolG97

    I think a flaw in casting Kristen Stuwert as a lead because of Twilight's success was that no one liked her character in the movies and she had next to no personality. Fans of that series were more interstead in the men rather Bella.

  • @Regitron3000
    @Regitron3000 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    IMO, on an aesthetic level Snow White and the Huntsmen is far superior to all the recent live action adaptations of classic fairy tales. It just captures a certain level of grit and realism that so many live action adaptations like Maleficent and Alice in Wonderland pretend to have. Also Charlize Theron is absolutely fantastic as Ravenna, she oozes evil so well and convincingly. That being said the movie does have it's faults. I feel it's greatest fault is that while the story is solid, the emotion and feeling of the movie feels muted.
    I also feel Kristen Stewart was horribly miscast. She definitely has acting chops as seen in recent years and she does as decent a job as she could do in this movie, but there were certain things about her that didn't fit with the character Snow White. Maybe it was because she was coming off the Twilight series, but she didn't convey the warm tenderness that the story kept saying Snow White possessed, on the contrary she seemed quite distant and cold. Also it may seem superficial but while Stewart is beautiful, her look is more uniquely modern. It's partly the reason she was chosen as Bella in Twilight. To say that her fairness was equal to/or greater than Charlize's evil queen was a stretch. It wouldn't have been such a big issue normally, but the story kept playing up how fair she was, and how stunningly beautiful she was but it visually wasn't quite lining up with the hype.
    Overall I really enjoyed the movie, and hope the director bounces back because his visual style is unique and fascinating.
