Thank you Liz :-))) Yes, I think this way it`s easier and quicker instead of trying to build up all the details "at once" or in just one sitting. The colour in the back helps to give the impression of grass "being there" and the details are basically just defined by the blades I put over it.
Du bist ein echter Meister. Wow !

Thank you :-))) How long it took me...I did this painting a long while ago...have to admit that I am not sure how long it took me exactly but I guess perhaps all in all a good day of painting, perhaps even a bit longer
Do not thin down your colours so much...light on dark you need very solid colours, nearly like straight out of the tube, nearly no thinner - and they will look awesome!
Yes. But I mix them with linseed oil only...no water any more...the colours get a weird consistency when I use water and they dry too quick...so I changed to linseed oil, WAY better :-)))
I`m using here mostly cheap round soft brushes from ebay that come in a set of a dozen. I go through so many of them that it would not make any sense to buy expensive ones ;-))))
Hi Deb, I buy my "better" brushes here in Germany at a company called "Boesner". I`m using the "da vinci" series for the flats and the bigger rounds. The smaller rounds i use cheap ebay brushes that come in a set of 12 pieces ranging from 0 to 000.
@@deborawagner7657 I would use some longer round brushes (hair should be longer) so that you have at least enough colour in your brush for one single blade of grass. You could even use longer ones but those tend to get thicker and you don`t want to just thicken up the single blade of grass. the grass should be just as thick as you need it to be to match your reference. I have to admit I never ever before painted grass on a really big sized canvas - so I can only guess that those 0 sized brushes and smaller that I used here will definitely not be enough. I would get three different sized new bigger round brushes with long hair (e.g. a script brush) and try which one will bring the best result. Hope this will help you :-)))

Love how simple the underpainting is, for something like grass I assumed you'd have you start with more interest but it builds very very gradually

Which brushes did you use please?? I’m having a hard time finding ones. They are either too hard or too soft. Thank you.

@@brennerfineart on the subject of painting grass like this but on a much larger canvas, what size would you use to get those blades of grass?
