- The Battle of Ad-Dawrah was a naval engagement fought on the night of 18 January and into 19 January in 1991 during the Gulf War. In the battle, Coalition forces captured an Iraqi offshore oil field forty miles from the Kuwaiti shore. The 29 Iraqi servicemen captured were the first prisoners of the conflict. It was also the first surface engagement after the Coalition intervened in the Gulf War.

So few people know the intensity and shear number of disparate operations happening simultaneously during Desert Storm. As Mike and team were climbing that rig, we were on a coordinated mining strike taking out SAM and triple-A sites near a the adjacent port facility at Umm Qasr. Thought for sure I too would become a POW that night, but in Saddam's custody. Thanks Shawn, excellent work as usual.

My ship helped take over force protection of those oil terminals after mike's group secured them. Marines on the terminals, us and some PCs patroling the exclusion zones around them, then a DD in between the terminals as overall CIC.

It’s not very well known, but Coast Guard Port Security Units and TACLETS took over security on some of these oil rigs after NSW cleared them. This was the beginning of Coast Guard Deployable Operations Group (later renamed DSF). This is also where the only Coast Guard KIA of the war occurred. DC3 Nate Bruckenthal was killed in a VBIED attack offshore of Kawhr Al Amaya Oil Terminal
In peace time the coast guard is the only one with real missions. Very interesting service

I was in the gulf the night of the raid he’s referring to. I’m almost certain a seal team touched off from the USS PONCE that evening but maybe I’m losing it, that was 20 yrs ago.

It would be nice to know what all these abbreviated words mean. Every other sentence he talks in alphabet abbreviations for vehicles, weapons, locations, equipment, etc…. As a civilian, I have no clue what the heck he’s talking about. I’m guessing this is a military orientated video designed for only military folks, but not civilians to comprehend 🤷
