    THEY are the CHOREOGRAPHERS. They have been performing since they were kids.They also choreograph for other groups. What I see is brilliant and deliberately NOT Jpop and Kpop.

    新しい学校のリーダーズは、歌詞、音、リズム、意味、全てから色々考え4人で振り付けをしています。
    歌詞を理解出来ると違う見方が出来ると思います。

    Just a personal observation as a non-choreographer and terrible dancer, but from what I understand they do all their own choreography. At least, that's the narrative around their work. I've always described their dance styles as the same stuff we would do when dancing to a song, they just make it look as cool as we think we do.

    Disagree with your analysis: Dancing follows the song, and the lyrics and then dancing reflect it. This song means "obligation" in Japanese. There is going to be structure because of the topic, but the dancing is subversvive. And the fact they pull off dancing segments where they "freestyle" or personally work in the personalities is how they always dance. It's never lazy. And that is always their songs: the dance and performance reflect the music and lyrics.

      Interesting take and I see what you’re saying. I have since figured out the problem (and this is solely from a choreographers perspective) they use a space-time-energy formation in the chorus (aka triangle formation but not quite that) which is always done in odd numbers. Having a member move to the side made it look a-symmetrical and that’s what I wasn’t able to put my finger on at the time

      @aaronacer “Giri” means obligation, but “giri giri” translates to “just enough” or “barely in time”. They list several frustrations that young people suffer - so why try? Doing just enough is just right (giri giri wa chodo ii desu). It’s the opposite of the pervasive “ganbatte” (do your best) and especially ironic coming from the school’s leaders.

    Even though the song was released recently, they said the song was created a while ago, that may be the reason to why the choreo felt different.

    My first thoughts --this was like watching a girls' band performing a marching band routine. I enjoy it because it's AG. The song features Rin being the "funky" one while everyone else moves in and out. Perhaps the choreographic choice was to give her that juxtaposition to other parts of the song.

    Thank you for your reaction. Your professional perspective is always valued. I realize you view many groups, but please try to remember they do their choreo. They’ve been doing it since 2015. Here’s a link to one of the earliest appearances. They are very young and very unpolished but the creativity is there.

    I think the reason you can't place what is "wrong" in the dance, is because nothing is actually wrong with the choreography.
    The quick, symmetrical formations where everyone moves in synchronization seem to be representing rigid and practiced societal conformity. That is, until one of the members moves out of formation and breaks the synchronization. They are reclaiming their individuality. This only lasts a moment before they are pulled back in, and the dance begins again.
    It seems to be about following along with whats is expected of a young woman, all while she simultaneously tries to do her own thing. Maybe . . .
    Possibly I'm full of shit, because I didn't bother to look up the lyrics and they explain everything. I don't normally think this hard about AG dance practice videos.
    Damn, you're a good youtube reactor! I can't wait for the next AG reaction.

    "We think about the dance choreography ourselves," they said in an interview.
    In the same interview, they also said, "The emphasis in choreography is on the content of the lyrics," but maybe they couldn't relate to the song's lyrics.
    Personally, I like the dubious steps of the dance.
    I suspect that's the "thief's mold" that used to be common in Japanese popular plays.
    Is it a sexual harassment or a suspicious person's song, along with "Hentai" and "Principal"?
    The essential lyrics are content that even a Japanese like me can't quite understand.

    • @xiaouiris
      @xiaouiris  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I see, it’s not that I didn’t mind the steps, I think I was just frustrated that I couldn’t place what was wrong 😑

      They actually wrote the lyrics to this song, along with Yonkey, the music producer. So, "maybe they couldn't relate to the song's lyrics" probably isn't the case here.

    This is my favorite song on their new EP, though I do have to say it is the least quirky song. In addition for me the choreo seems to be less quirky also, more standard. Though I have not much to compare it to, as the last dancing type musician I was into was Kate Bush. My favorite part was when Suzuka was coming out of the "scattering" with arms stretched out like an airplane. The only parts that really felt kind of off was when it looked like a member just stopped dancing to walk to their set point.

    I asked you a couple times to do this review. Now I don't like you anymore. Just kidding! Thank you for your honesty. I can't stand reviewers who fake liking something just to get likes from fans. I love this choreography and have watched this video many times, and my opinion, just like yours, is absolutely valid. However, you have the advantage (maybe burden) of looking at this through the lens of years of professional experience in order to give an informed opinion, so your perspective has a bit more value and substance. I'm just a simple fanboy (very old fanboy), which has its own advantage of mindlessly liking something without the burden of a thoughtful critique.
    For background, here's a video with English subtitles where AG is introducing this song to the public for the first time. They describe the background story of its origin two and a half years ago, including the lyrics and choreography, both of which are their own. Thought you might find it interesting. If you think something seemed "off" and as long as you base that thought on your experience, i don't see how you can be wrong. I mean even after watching the video i can still tell you love the group. For you, something seemed out of place. Maybe this was thrown together to make a quick video so they could have content of their channel or maybe they are working with some one new/inexperienced, we can only speculate. But i love watching your videos especially on ATARASHII GAKKO! and BabyMetal. Thanks please keep them coming!

    Las coreografías las hacen ellas mismas pero Mizyu es la que generalmente más "aporta", después de todo ella es la "líder" (aunque a nadie del fandom le guste verlo así), no me extrañaría que en esta ocasión se hayan dado mas libertades que de costumbre.
    Y menciono eso con cierta seguridad porque en varios lives se le ha visto a Mizyu trabajando en ello sobre papel.
    Edit: que buen video, da gusto ver a alguien no sólo aplaude para ganar visitas :)

      i dont think mizyu is the leader. yeah, in a interview she said that, but she also said (if i am not wrong) "for this interview, i am the leader".
      in my opinion, either they have no leader or they are all leader, because their name in japanese is "atarashii gakkou no LEADERS". plural.
      but because k-pop's popularity, people will ask "who are the leader? who are main vocalist?".

    • @tengar5785

      Es lógico que Mzyu sea la líder, es la mayor y sobre todo hace años cuando iniciaron esa diferencia de edad era apreciable.

    The choreography is all on AG. AG are the choreographers. An important part of AG is their individuality so they often play on that in the dance. I get what you mean about the complexity of the motion, but this is a practice and it might be refined and I think they are trying to communicate the uncertainty and turbulence of the girl in the song…it’s another song about being on the edge of adult love. If I have a criticism it’s that AG need to get some new subjects for their songs.

    I thought the choreography was entertaining as a non-dancer myself. But.. maybe it seemed lacking because they all have to dance and do vocals during a live performance. I can imagine it'd be difficult if they were doing anything crazier.

    I'm not sure I understand you. At first it seemed like you were talking about specific moves. If that's the case, in the future please point those out specifically. Then it seemed like you were talking about the overall tone. Which I agree is a lot different (refreshing too me). It's slower and more insync. This is actually one of my favorites. It reminds me of an airplane acrobatic team.
    This doesn't apply so much to this song but when you said "Bring It On" at the beginning- I've noticed that they're really stepping up their moves lately. As if they feel challenged by everyone doing their dances on Tictok.
    Here, maybe they just wanted to try something new and different. Remember that they don't have decades of experience and they don't have a lot of time for research.

    • @xiaouiris
      @xiaouiris  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Believe me if I figured out what wasn’t appearing right to me, I would have broken it down there and then! I’ve since seen an impairment in their formation when the chorus hits (in dance it’s a space-time-energy formation that’s used specifically with odd number dancers 3/6/9) I’ll probably give it an explanation in my next AG video now that I can see clearly what was bothering me during my reaction!

  • @superionmaximus9900
    @superionmaximus9900 ปีที่แล้ว

    I definitely see your point, but I don't think it's as big a deal as you made it out to be. The part you seem to dislike where they scatter is just just where they are repositioning, very similar to how they rotated mics in the Otana Blue First Take Video. I just think they were going for a more playful routine here, more like them in NaiNaiNai where Kannon shoves her arms in her shirt to demonstrate large opai, and here she looks up Suzuka's skirt when they reference hentai in the chorus. I don't know, it just seemed to me like they were aiming for fun and playful like their Seishun Academy skits or their more completely bonkers songs like Candy. The song is awesome, and the new track suits fit their school girl/street/hip hop kind of image great
