Finally, a video with tiny ships! I’m all about tiny ships! My current ship is a Y-Wing-style little beast that is fast and deadly, built around a single 3x1 all-purpose hab.

Can really appreciate the smaller ship builds. Cramming as much of everything you need into as small a space. My current build is 24x24m, but has a Class C Pinch 8Z Reactor, Apollo GV300 Grav Drive, 6 SAL-6330 engines, a Cabot C4 Bridge, a workshop, infirmary, All-in-One Berth, 2 Crew Stations and a Captain's Quarters, for a max of 10 crew, so it has space for all the crew you'd need _and_ contains all the crafting benches too [All in One Berths have a Galley, which function as a Cooking Station]. I also have a frankly silly amount of He3, but that's more for symmetry. The Reactor and Grav Drive are not exposed, it's 4 stacks high and is bristiling with weapons [although I've adjusted them, because it's a bit unneccesary having _that_ many]. Doesn't have a crazy amount of cargo at just over 5000, but that includes a shielded cargo bay. I've also managed to squeeze a Frequency Jammer, ComSpike and Conduction Grid onto it Mobility is only 94, but I'm OK with sacrificing 6 mobility for this little beast. Not to mention it actually looks great imo
I'd like to see an "introduction to ship building" video. Something to give people an idea of how to get the specialty parts that you're getting and tips and tricks to getting started in shipbuilding, maybe some explanations of less well understood factors in Shipbuilding.
The Keppler=R, a free ship you can get through a main story quest, is exactly the definition of an OVER-BLOATED mess of a ship. The ONLY advantage is that it will give you excellent components for you to use to rebuild it into something you want.
For some reason when you introduced the "red rooster" I couldn't help thinking of a particular cursed southpark scene. If this was intentional I salute you sir, if it was unintentional I hope you get the reference if not look it up
Probably my favorite ship so far has been my stripped down Crimson Fleet Ghost. I took out everything extra changed the weapons to the electron beams. Painted it yellow & black and named it "Bumblebee". Tiny & efficient killer for a starter ship (lvl 25 or less). I think it costed me about 15K credits. It didn't even have a bed, but I still regret selling it.
I’m renovating the Frontier to be a mobile research lab and cargo hauler meant for long stays on remote planets, but I def need a smaller fighter for quick skips between mission locations. Or a big battle ship so no one else effs with me
Thats exactly what i did. My frontier has 40k cargo, all the workshops and has max weapons. Slow as a pig but i just walk in wreck with the auto turrets. Got the razorsleaf as my fighter that im building up
The practical exploration vessel and a dedicated combat vessel are the way to go, try and do everything and it's good at nothing. Personally I like smaller combat ship; being able to turn on a dime, get stuff in your crosshairs and melt it with my 9 particle beams means nobody is left alive to eff with you. Mine isn't super small, it's 3 habs and a crew of 6 but has a decent balance of stats.
Great Job, I've really been struggling with ship design, especially when trying to make a smaller more maneuverable ship amd this inspires me to go home early from work to do more ship building 😅. That said I did manage to build a class C freighter that absolutely shreds any threat 3km+ I point her at, even destroying astroids to get at them.
I would love to see your interpretation of an upgraded razorleaf the ship you get from the Mantis side quest. I just love the starfighter feel of that ship but I'm not quite creativ enough to enhance and expand upon its design
This is a great idea. I would love to see his take on an upgraded Razorleaf as well. Currently, I'm constantly changing my Razorleaf from a class B to C and back to B.
A feature that I would love to see added would be the ability to save ship designs without actually building them. Call it a “schematics” tab in the ship menu or something. You could save designs in a folder so you could come back and build them when you have the funds to afford it. On top of that, there could be an engineering firm in game that you could work for. They would give you “missions” where clients would hire you to design ships with specific specs, and you would make a percentage of the ships final value as commission payment.
Can't wait till I see some 1x1 habs come out optimized so you can have a wall bunk and toilet. I like the way the Samurai cockpits look on the outside, but inside they are barren. You could even use that space to add a bunk or additional control stations, etc.
These designs are brilliant! Ive been looking for inspiration on ship building and everyone is building huge cruisers. There is a slim docking bay that I use that fits on the belly and I have found that opens up some top placement options. Build on my friend!
The Trilobite is probably my favorite of these builds, however I would change a couple things on it: I don't like how the Stroud caps overhang the engines on the rear, plus I noticed that the mobility was "only" 91, so I'd ditch the Stroud wing caps and put 2 more WD3015 engines in their place. I know it's -probably- definitely overkill, but I like the symmetry. I'd then take the rear-facing turrets you had on the wing caps and put them in place of the missile launchers. Particle beam weapons are the best ship weapons in the game, and since you're taking a whole weapon group off the ship, you'd have more power to allocate to the particle beam turrets. Just my 2 cents.
I made the Trilobite one tonight, very nippy and there was nothing I couldn’t defeat, though I’m not a fan of missiles so left them off. Decided I don’t really need all the different habs as I always went to my outpost or to the lodge to research/build stuff anyway, really like the speed of these smaller ships - think it’ll be hard going back to some of the much larger ships I have in my collection!
love them build man! small little tip on the first build (Tic Tac): you could have changed the last Pinpoint 3G landing gear to "Stbd Aft" version - this one adds a visual engine (build into the landing gear) which may be pleasing to the eye. it serves NO engine function e.g. does not add up to your engine speed or thrust/power.
That "Scav Ship" build is interesting to say the least, lol. I like the asymmetrical design, but I would change a few things on it: I would change the engines out for the WD3015s for speed, and I would take out the middle HopeTech hallway hab to make the overall footprint a bit narrower (this is a "tiny ships" build video, after all, lol). I would also replace that missile launcher with a 4th Auto Helion Beam cannon, both for symmetry and efficiency as you'd only have 1 main weapon group to allocate power to. I would also do the hab replacement that you mention at 13:20. I know you were going for a specific look/theme, but if it were me, I'd do the above changes to make it more useful and still retain the aesthetic theme you were going for.
IF... you do the vanguard quests for the united colonies, you get the Vanguard dome bubble which can be on the top of the ship along with the docker and not interfere with the docker. The dome bubble is - so far - the best shield I've found in the game and is a B-Class shield.
I made my small ship and it's a fighter that can reach speeds above 1000k for quick boost. Shield is 2k and the weapons layout is insane and it's a class C with grave drive at 40. Plus the reactor is at 34. 3 weapon slots being Vanguard weapons at 4 each and 4 25k missile launchers. Had to sacrifice cargo load for light weight as well. Plus no ladders and one large hab. It's really simple, but effective in battle.
This is great. After 100 hours of jonesing, slaving away and working and begging and stealing credits and taking ships and landing and waiting to steal ships and on and on, and on to get the biggest monsters, I got rid of them all. A massive ship is nice I guess. A ship that you can get on that you don’t have to climb ladders that you can walk through. It has exactly what you need. That’s what I go for now. I’ll be at they are not tiny ships that I look for and strive for. They are probably more small to medium leaning towards medium, but hey who needs the Empire State building in space? Actually, a lot of people do, but I’m good
Great vid. Done similar myself, as wanted a small ship that kicks ass but can still jump long distances. Kinda in the vein of the Delta Flyer from Star Trek Voyager.
One thing that has perplexed me about some of the small pirate or spacer ships I've boarded is the lack of any sanitary facilities. That really strains my suspension of disbelief.
With pirates, spacers, mercs, and zealots all occupying abandoned outposts, I just put it down as short-range, short-term operations. There are so many facilities out there that a few ships could float between them, which would also explain why you rarely see parked ships at those bases. It's a stretch, but there is just enough in-game activity to make it plausible.
@@nolgroth Plausible, except that human bodies are notoriously unreliable. You might think you'll be fine for that six hour jump to the next system, but if you ate or drank the wrong thing on that last planet you might find the contents of your alimentary canal violently trying to leave your body from both ends long before you reach your destination. I suppose spacesuits might have the capacity to deal with that to some extent just like the ones present day astronauts use, but still. . .
If you want the most optimal ship, only use a class engines and get them to 12 power bars. You don't have to fully power the engine bar because your only adding that many for the mobility. You also should use the biggest engine and grav drive available to you (ideally c class, you can do the first Vanguard quest to level piloting of which there are many tutorials). I also would recommend the viking cockpit and any 2x1 hab that gives 4 crew slots. That gives you 8 crew slots and gives lots of attach points. My personal ship has 1800 storage, 300 shielded, maxed out pulse, rocket, and em weapons (though only 2 are ever powered as the em is purely for boarding), 27 ly grav jump (I went with a smaller grav drive for more storage, my cargo hauler has 30 ly grav jump), and 72 mobility. For looks I used b class engines and it's costed me 8 mobility. My top speed is 180 but only if my engines max out power, when I have both my pulse and rockets fully powered I only have enough power left for 8 engine, so it tops out at 137. I intend to try find some crew that can add a free green power slot like Sam does in order to compensate. I could also sacrifice some shield power for more engine power but I find that it's not really an issue. When dog fighting mobility is king because it allows you to turn while holding space way faster. You can also shoot at a shop your not targeting while targeting a different ship to lock your rockets to kill 2 ships at once, though this usually means tanking some fire which is why I like maxing my shields.
My ship has a 2x1 control room and a 2x1 all in one. So the total hab space is Cockpit + 5 hab blocks (1 companionway for docker because I RP that the 2x1 living quarters is private). Attached is 30+ Energy C-class reactor and total 175 damage (shields and hull) of 4 proton beams that start tickling at 3500 range and 2x EM for boarding (more loot). Cargo space is ~1900 of which 160 is shielded. Also attached max C class shields. 4 White Dwarf 3030s. Max base speed is 150 (buffs obviously pushes that up), Maneuverability is 100, Light year range is 30. Crew capacity is 6. upgrading over time the ship probably costed me about 400-600k but at current build the parts is between 150-250k if I would have started from scratch. I can run everything at full tilt with the reactor, I zoom and turn like a interceptor and the compact size makes it feel like it. I can't craft anything though, but I have realized that with my gameplay style I do that planet side anyway, since I like to keep my bulk of resources locked up nearby, so that would only waste cargo space that can rather be filled with loot. So I do about 3-5 missions, then sort out the loot (vendors etc) and do any crafting then. This C based build is an upgrade from Class A parts that had 72 damage( 3500 range too), 26 Power, 6 Shields, same amount of cargo, 24 light year range and 4 crew spots. To be fair it looks a bit like a bus...maybe like the Rocinante if you squint. But yeah I always liked the plain look of the Ion Frigates in Homeworld - the concept of essentially a ship strapped around a big gun. A Stylized Phallus 🤣
I can't wait 'til mods/dlc releases a 1x1 hab with a bed because I wanted to make a bounty hunter type with the Isolation perk that flies a tiny little ship on their own that is basically where they live.
I haven't exactly gone "Tiny" with my ship design... But I have kept the Frontier as my 'base', with the size and weight limit being set at "Whatever the maximum amount the standard landing gear can carry" (That limit is 800). Within that weight, I have 4 engines (2 White Dwarf 1020s, and 2 WD 2020s, for 100 manourverability and 150 max speed), over 1000 cargo space (some shielded), 5 guns (2 particle, 2 emp, 1 missile), 3 2x1 hab (Computer core, workshop, and the unique Frontier hab). I have 200 fuel, and a 21ly range. All this is still 'A' tier parts, and I only have 'starship design' level 1 as well. THe one weakness in the design would have to be shields, I only have a rating of 405 (and I think that includes Vasco's boost). Almost everything is Nova Galactic parts (certainly all the main ones anyway, the ones that can be), because "pURiTy". End result (including all the purely cosmetic 'structure' bits) is 800 weight exactly, and is 22m wide, and 56m long. ~JD
for the tic tac Drop a deimos low profile docker on the bottom of the 1x1 to get another connection point on top. either for one more gun or a different shield and mount 2 where the shield is. That docker is my favorite.
What would be cool is make an advanced frontier ship using the ship we get in the beginning of the game, I think it would be interesting to see what you guys come up with but you must use ONLY the frontier ship only...add or take away...I absolutely suck at building ships ATM, tic-tac was my favorite btw.

I love the Clawitzer Tic-Tac! Its firepower is impressive, you made great use of the restricted attachment slots.
I'd like to see an "introduction to ship building" video.
Something to give people an idea of how to get the specialty parts that you're getting and tips and tricks to getting started in shipbuilding, maybe some explanations of less well understood factors in Shipbuilding.
Ahhh man these ships are art. We got Fudgemuppet staryards here.
Fantastic builds and well presented! I love the last one the most :)
The tic tac looks cool 😎
@chetmanley1885 what ship weapons you use?
Great Job, I've really been struggling with ship design, especially when trying to make a smaller more maneuverable ship amd this inspires me to go home early from work to do more ship building 😅.
That said I did manage to build a class C freighter that absolutely shreds any threat 3km+ I point her at, even destroying astroids to get at them.
Love your small ship builds. I built this as a mini cargo hauler with 2100 cargo space. I had to add some extras but it was worth it.
Would like to see a three tier ship building for piracy at Class A, B, C ships respectively. Great video! ❤🎉❤🎉
Honestly love your ship and your video. Thank you
YES!!! I feel the same about ship building I've done it all as well, so i design smaller ships now
I would love to see your interpretation of an upgraded razorleaf the ship you get from the Mantis side quest. I just love the starfighter feel of that ship but I'm not quite creativ enough to enhance and expand upon its design
This is a great idea. I would love to see his take on an upgraded Razorleaf as well. Currently, I'm constantly changing my Razorleaf from a class B to C and back to B.
I did this exact thing. I loved the Razorleafs' original design that I had to upgrade it.
A channel called TheWickedFuture has a video doing a class C upgraded Razorleaf, stays pretty true to the original, that may be what your looking for.
Dude the Tictac looks so cool, more ships like that, with maybe abit more interior!!!
Great builds Scott, really enjoyed them
A feature that I would love to see added would be the ability to save ship designs without actually building them.
Tic tac is fabulous!
I really like the Scav build! My pilot character has the introvert and spaced trait so I'll be making this ship as a home base essentially.
Too bad we can't build space stations for bases.
That would be too cool, have all your ships docked at your own space station.
Great ships. Your imagination for ship building is awesome. Good job 🙌
I like small ships, the feeling is comfy
Can't wait till I see some 1x1 habs come out optimized so you can have a wall bunk and toilet. I like the way the Samurai cockpits look on the outside, but inside they are barren. You could even use that space to add a bunk or additional control stations, etc.
These designs are brilliant! Ive been looking for inspiration on ship building and everyone is building huge cruisers. There is a slim docking bay that I use that fits on the belly and I have found that opens up some top placement options. Build on my friend!
The Trilobite is probably my favorite of these builds, however I would change a couple things on it:
I don't like how the Stroud caps overhang the engines on the rear, plus I noticed that the mobility was "only" 91, so I'd ditch the Stroud wing caps and put 2 more WD3015 engines in their place.
Great fun designs. Nice work
That tic tac is sweet.
love them build man!
small little tip on the first build (Tic Tac): you could have changed the last Pinpoint 3G landing gear to "Stbd Aft" version -
this one adds a visual engine (build into the landing gear) which may be pleasing to the eye.
it serves NO engine function e.g. does not add up to your engine speed or thrust/power.
Great video and awesome concepts, excited to try them out
That "Scav Ship" build is interesting to say the least, lol. I like the asymmetrical design, but I would change a few things on it:
I would change the engines out for the WD3015s for speed, and I would take out the middle HopeTech hallway hab to make the overall footprint a bit narrower (this is a "tiny ships" build video, after all, lol).
I can't wait for the real mods to start pouring in so we can actually fly the ships from planet to planet.
Actually, a lot of people do, but I’m good
I want that violet crumble build. That thing looks nuts. I like the bigger ships with tons of living space and cargo space.
I have to admit, I like the smaller ships.
Great vid. Done similar myself, as wanted a small ship that kicks ass but can still jump long distances. Kinda in the vein of the Delta Flyer from Star Trek Voyager.
Fantastic videos ! More of those if possible please !
I'm quite proud of my latest design which is basically a destroyer version of the star wars CIS Vulture droid always loved that design.
I’ve beefed making A-wing ships glad I’m not the only one going small and fast
I suppose spacesuits might have the capacity to deal with that to some extent just like the ones present day astronauts use, but still. . .
I like building junker style ships, kinda give that post apocalyptic feel
The first ships got some big ol' bawlls 😂😂
Lots of great ideas thanks!

With your Tic-Tac, using the drop down glitch you can merge the Reactor and Grav-Drive together allowing for a 2 x 1 hab of your choice.
for the tic tac Drop a deimos low profile docker on the bottom of the 1x1 to get another connection point on top. either for one more gun or a different shield and mount 2 where the shield is.
These videos are great I get my starship creator builds without bankrupting my caracter for a 5th time.
speaking of which since you've done smallest ship builds would you consider a biggest starcruiser type ship build?
That Scav looks a bit like a B-Wing. I might repurpose it. I love those designs!
Great video!
Tic tac looks cool but I could never get over the fact that in reality it would end up spinning in circles
as a big fan of treasure planet and spelljammer id love to see sailing ship and animal inspired ships
like a shark, whale, turtle, squid, etc
Many thanks for the video ,, very informative ,and interesting to understand the capabilities of shipbuilding !!! and as you keep mentioning about yup I'm one of those that has an almighty "C" type huge "brick" lol to get the most of out of weapons, plus I want as much Cargo as possible ..... lol ( I'm still learning ,,,heehee ;) )
Realy nice builds ❤
Tiny ships are cools, but I love giant Cruiser ships.
I don’t know, I’ve seen ships much much smaller then those. But your ships still look cool as hell though 😎👍
Great ships 👍
