I’ve never grown beets in our garden because there’s not many recipes I feel like my children would eat them in- but after my daughter saw the beet ice cream and the beet curry she said, “we could grow those on our garden, too! Will try to grow beets this year. Take your time in finding a woman to marry. Marriage is suppose to be life long. I teach my children date to marry not to occupy time. Find someone that draws out your potential where you can grow and Vice versa. I also teach my kids to find someone who love the Lord more than them and share that with them because even when you’re in a disagreement, your spouse do right by you out of love and fear for the Lord. Since having heart surgery last December I've had to change up my diet a bit and your recipes have been a joy to try. Plus its been delightful watching you learn to grow your own veg and cook with it the last few years! Beets are one of my favorite veg to grow and cook with. Thanks for the inspiration. I'm in Southeast Alaska so I have a similar climate to you in Wales but with more rain. A LOT MORE RAIN. 13 feet a year on average here in Ketchikan. 😝

I've been struggling with chronic health issues for years, and now my acid reflux and taste buds are also a mess. I've been caving to pressure from my family to go back to meat and fish. But I see a dietician today for the first time to talk about my relationship with food and improving my health. My long term personal goal is to live authentically without guilt or shame. And that means moving towards a whole food plant based life style, for my ethics and values on animal rights, amd for climate change, and for my health issues. I would love to grow some herbs and plants down the road too. I purchased some shiitake mushroom blocks from a local farm last winter and had fun growing and cooking them. Shiitake are my workhorse for everything from vegan Thanksgiving gravy to miso soup and beyond.

Hey Gaz, here's what you can do when you've got lots of beetroot and need to store it over winter. Twist the stems off, brush off dirt or wash and let dry a bit, then store in damp new pine wood shavings in a plastic bin in the shed or barn. Layer them so none touch each other and keep lid off or part off for air. Don't store any that have holes or slug damage, put them on top to use first. And this is for cool weather storage. If you go to Steves Seaside Kitchen channel, he has so much information, I think you'd love his channel. He grows a dedicated beet bed just to harvest for storage, and it's what I'm going to do next year! Every time I cook our home grown beets for dinner, my husband and I comment on how we hated beets growing up. Now we love them, fresh from the garden is best, not a tin!

@@daviddeininger2938 1lb Bramley apples, 1lb blood oranges, 1lb raw beetroot, large piece of fresh ginger, 2 cloves of garlic, 2 red chillies, 1tsp crushed coriander seeds, 8oz dark muscovado sugar ( I prefer to use agave or maple syrup) 15fl oz red wine vinegar, 1tsp mixed spice.
Coarsely grate apples beetroot, onions, garlic and ginger. Grate orange rind and coarsely chop orange flesh (add orange flesh in the last ten minutes) add chilli, all spices and red wine vinegar, bring to the boil, reduce to simmer for 45 minutes, jar whilst still hot et voila, Winter spiced beetroot and orange chutney 🙂

All of these dishes look amazing! I'm Polish and I love beets. Fermented beets are super healthy and you can make delicious barszcz with the liquid. Add some wild mushroom dumplings and you get a traditional Christmas soup. You can also make a delicious soup with beetroot leaves.

Beetroot 'seeds' are actually a 'shell' that contains multiple seeds - so you don't need to plant more than one at a time in a hole.
