      Hi Myriam, There are a line of pencil sharpener made by AFMAT that creates a really long tip for those that like their sketch pencils to have an extra long point. They come in manual and electric. Both work quite well. Love your work. Your form of expression is very unique. Best of luck to you.

    i bought myself the same daler rowney sketchbook because i needed a cheap one and i wanted to try out a4 so i figured that was the best option and i was originally just going to use it as like a 'junk' sketchbook, mostly just for sketches and studies to loosen up without having to worry but ive found myself really enjoying it and i'll probably keep using it in the future!! also i've been eyeing up the col-erase pencils for a while but i was either not too sure or i didn't have the money but they seem really good so i'll probably buy myself one or two when i get the chance! loved this video, its really nice just watching you sketch for a bit and hearing about your favourite tools because i'm always on the lookout for new things haha (gosh this was long i hope u dont mind aa)

      @myriamtillson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, I’m so glad you like it too! I started out that way for me too, pretty much! I didn’t think much of the sketchbook at first because it felt flimsy and was so cheap, but I was agreeably surprised! So glad you liked the video, thank you for watching!

    I use what I have on this moment, but it's true: If you enjoy using your tools, you're gonna be more happy and maybe your creativity can grow.
    I can talk about colors: I use _Norma_ Colors because on the cheaper color pencils, I think they're one of the beasts. I like their saturation. On the pens I like the ones who fine a fine point ball. For the rest I don't have a favorite because I'm using what I have on my house.

    I started using the Daler Rowney Graduate sketchbooks after seeing them in one of your other videos. And I love them! The psychological side is so true. I don't mind experimenting so much with these and if it goes horribly wrong I don't feel bad about about "wasting" the paper, while I have other sketchbooks I saving for when my ideas and art feels "worthy" of them. I know it's all in my head!!! I have an A3 and A4 on the go simultaneously and loving it!

    • @myriamtillson
      @myriamtillson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I relate to that feeling! I have a bunch of sketchbooks on the go too, some for really rough sketching, others where I take more care. The Daler Romney one is one I find I can do both kinds of drawing in, as it’s enjoyable to work in, and rather cheap too! Glad my recommendation could be useful!

    Such a wonderful video! Lovely art supplies, nice to see what you use :)
    It's so nice to see you sketching! And it is really interesting how you start your life drawings it is like you going with the lineart of the silouette. Thats so interesting O,O
    What I really liked last year and have to use again are my water soluble graphite pencils. Sketching with them feels great and also you can use them so good with water :) I love how the end results turn out with them.
    But I also really started to like using my colored pencils for sketching :)

    I have the same sketchbook omg ! 😳 and I totally agree with you, they feel nice. The paper is not too thick, not too thin and because I enjoy a touch of coulour in my sketches I use watercolour and it does quite a good job actually. I was really surprised in a good way. I use mechanical pencil which I find easier to use cause I like my tip(?), « la mine » (?), to be long too and mechanicals are so easy to use for that. Anyway, can’t believe one of my inspiration use the same as me. 🙈😍

    • @myriamtillson
      @myriamtillson  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same here (about the sketchbook)! And “mine” is “lead” :) I used to use mechanical pencils a lot years ago, I loved them. Now, they tend to make me focus too much on details, and not on the general form of my sketch, so I don’t like them as much any more, but I completely understand why you like them, they are definitely ideal to keep a thin tip! Thank you for watching lovely!

    I've been having a lot of ups and downs in my art lately, I am full of ideas but lacking some of the technical skills to get what's in my head onto paper accurately. I found your videos a couple of weeks ago and they have been so inspiring and motivating for me. When I'm feeling low I'll pop on your videos and soon I am feeling inspired and motivated to keep trying. The Col Erase pencils look really fun, I might have to try a couple out. Lockdown for five months now, it is very relaxing watching your videos. I’ve ordered art materials via online shopping channel. I’m trying Meeden watercolour paints, Prima basic colour palette (12 half pans) Also Himi Myra gauache (18) jelly cups. I’m concentrating on floral paintings because my drawing skills are lacking particularly when I compare to your skill level.

      I have a basic fixative for charcoal that I bought in a shop in France, so unfortunately it isn’t available everywhere. It also isn’t my “favourite” because I change brand every time I run out! Sorry! Most basic fixatives work well for pencil drawings though :)

    I got a Daler Rowney Sketchbook like the ones you showed recently, but wasnt able to test it yet (because the one I use at the moment - a canson xl mixed media in 7" x 10" - isnt full yet... but maybe I will try it anyway, because who cares if I start the 11th sketchbook (15th? I dont know xD))
    I tried the colerase pencils too, but the ones I got break all the time :( I have two with a loose core... I can pull the core out of the wood, thats so sad :/ Now I use mechanicel pencils with the Pilot- color- eno leds in red, blue, green and violett or for really really light sketches I use 2 clutch pencils in H and 2H.

    I really want to learn how to draw but I don't know where to start can you give me some tips?

    • @myriamtillson
      @myriamtillson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Start with what you love! I started by drawing my favourite animals and celebrities, I drew, and drew and drew, because drawing what I loved helped me love drawing even more. It’s about finding the pleasure of it first! Once you get to the point where you think you are interested in learning drawing in a more in-depth way, and if you start bumping into similar issues and don’t know how to solve them, find videos or tutorials that teach you how to fix those problems. Make sure you practice a lot from reference, the more you draw from reference, the better you’ll get, and if you combine drawing from reference regularly, and learning the theory behind how the things you draw work and are made up, your brain will start seeing those elements in your references, and you’ll slowly start understanding the subjects you draw :)

    Hey myriam love your work and your videos your such a huge inspiration. I’m learning to draw the human body and something that has me stuck is the width of the shoulders. Are they two heads wide? And how would I measure the width horizontally or vertically?

    • @myriamtillson
      @myriamtillson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi lovely, I’ll be honest, I have never drawn by thinking of measurements, I mostly just drew tons and then started building up my instincts for what was in proportion and was wasn’t. Shoulders especially, depend on the type of human you are drawing, and their physiology. I think a good rule of thumb, is to imagine your character bending their neck to the side, as if to touch their shoulder with their ear. The shoulder will end roughly where the top of the head ends when the head is bent to the side like that. Does that make sense? Basically, the average shoulder will be as long as the head is tall (from chin to top of the head). Do you work from reference? I’d recommend you do if you don’t, and if you do, my technique is to find points of reference in the picture for where the shoulders end. It’s difficult to explain what I mean without a visual example, but I refer to this technique in my “drawing humans” video. Hope this helps a little! The more you draw (from reference) the better you’ll be able to tell!
