Agreed about the color, that was tough. But oh my god, this one might be one of my favorites. the contrast of simplicity and muted colors and shadows to the colorful inside. Sounds a lot like a real person, no?
What a wonderful painting! These flowers remind me so much of something from my childhood that I saw in the Ukraine while visiting my grandparents? I only have a very vague memory of it, but it brought back all sorts of other flashes of the place where they lived ... wow! I think this motif might indeed be hardwired into many of us!

Thank you very much for your kind words Isabel, I’m a big admirer of music, it has such power as an art form, I hope it goes well for you. Thank you for your wonderful comment :)
I am in love with this painting, the shadowing on the inside of the head really made such a difference..... as for advice w/ acrylics, that is one of my main mediums and there are a lot of techniques, as there are w/ every medium of course... but I find what works best for me is getting down my first sort of blocking layer down w/ thicker paint (less water) and once that is dry, going in w/ more thin/watered down layers of color. Since acrylics dry darker I find myself slowly adding in lighter layers to create deeper/more translucent colors.... I hope that helps, and I really look forward to seeing that video. I love all your content, thank you for inspiring me!
I love this! You have such an amazing style. I usually use acrylics but gouache seems like a good alternative for looser paintings. I recently was given a very helpful tip for all painting mediums though. Using col erase pencils instead of graphite will keep the paint from muddying and is easier to cover. It makes such a difference. Love your work.

You are such a lovely person and watching you gives off such a wonderful calming vibe. Watching you painting and hearing about your thoughts is amazing and I can really learn a lot from you. The kind of sometimes hidden feelings inside your art (in the piece with the snow globe you did for inktober the feeling isn't quite clear at first glance) is very inspiring. ❤️

That being said: congratuwelldone on all the sponsorships, growth and plans you have! I have really, really loved watching your videos (for a couple years now, I think) and one of the main reasons is how open and honest you are about the realities of making yourself and your art a business, and a successful and supportive one at that. You have taught me so much about how to go about starting a 'proper' art career, but also about how to be nicer to myself and let myself develop the way I will :B I am always looking forward to your videos, whether you mention sponsors or products in your shop nor not... and besides, it's always nice to know when fun things are available, because one day I vow to own a piece!

I do feel awkward if i feel I’ve been promoting my store or doing sponsorships too much, so I try to be as transparent with them as possible, so as not to feel too much like an ad read to my viewers. I need to promote my products, as that is how I make a living, and the only way I can keep creating sustainably, but sponsorships are also a nice way for me to earn a helpful chunk of income, without having to ask my viewers to support me monetarily. I really appreciate your support and understanding :) I hope your art career is and will go well! Thank you again for such a supportive comment :)
Cool to hear you’re getting into acrylic! Can’t wait to see what you do with it. I’ve been using acrylic for a while and I like it for larger pieces and some smaller studies. Size has been something I’ve struggled with this year and in 2020 one of my goals is to do much larger pieces. As always, thank you for the inspiration and your art! Bill
Thank you Bill! I’m definitely excited to try them again, it makes more sense for bigger pieces. I hope you’ll achieve your goal of working bigger, trust me, it’s addictive, and the bigger you’ll work the bigger you’ll want to go, haha. Thank you for all your support!
So pretty! For acrylic, it does dry much quicker than watercolours and gouache paints. Buying a paint extender (I'm not sure if that's what it's called) will help extend the working time to something more similar to gouache. And don't thin them with water! The pigments don't spread like it would with watercolour or gouache. I use acrylic mostly for small models and doll repaints, but I have been practicing it on thing like Pokémon cards and yugioh cards to get a feel of the medium using preset designs. And acrylic classes on skillshare would probably be worthwhile to check out, I know I'm going to do just that.
Yes, I know about the drying time, but an extender is a good idea, thank you! I had also heard about not thinning with water, although I couldn’t remember if I imagined that, haha, thanks for the confirmation! I’ve been checking out acrylic courses on Skillshare and I’ll probably talk about them when I do my trying acrylics again Video :)Thanks for all your advice, I really appreciate it!
Beautiful. I have to nerd out and just adore the floral motif. This is one that repeats across many cultures across the globe, which fascinates me. You can find similar motifs from swedish kurbits to ukranian petrykivka to Central American florals so I'm not surprised it came into your subconscious mind! I think it lives in the collective unconsciousness tbh

Myriam, what medium did you use for that lovely shadow wash? Watercolours? MY...it's lovely!! I had to watch it a few times to really see the depth come to life!
I have to admit, that this painting isn't a favourite of mine from your paintings (propably because I'm not a huge fan of bright, saturated colors) BUT I do like this video very much! I cant tell exactly why, maybe because its not "perfect" (you spilled your tea etc.) or because you talked free about your thoughts about your struggles with overworking your paintings and that your chosen medium maybe isnt the "right" one for your way of painting bigger pictures. Thank you for being honest and being you in your videos :D
Lovely painting, and the optimism of the piece definitely comes across. I'm just curious: why go to acrylic rather than acrylogouache? Wouldn't the latter give you the look of gouache without the lifting/reactivating problem?
Thank you ! And part of the reason I'm thinking of acrylics instead of acryl gouache is because acryl gouache usually comes in fairly small tubes (smaller than regular gouache), which doesn't make it an ideal medium for big paintings. It's great for detail, but not really for big areas or pieces. It also makes it quite expensive. And there are less brand choices, it's less widely available, and not as lightfast. I'll keep using it for smaller pieces, but acrylics seems like the better choice for bigger paintings :)
@@myriamtillson I think you can mix gouache with an acrylic medium to pretty much get acryl gouache. I don't know how true that is (I heard it mentioned in a youtube video) and I certainly wouldn't be testing this on my beloved Schminke Horadam gouache without an exact recipe and a demo of how it performs. I did a quick google search for you and it appears the Holbein Acryla gouache comes in 40 mL tubes for about USD 16. www.dickblick.com/products/holbein-acryla-gouache/ . Yes, you can indeed add acrylic medium to regular gouache to make it water resistant once dried, I tried it out myself in my gouache 101 video, it works quite well! Regular Gouache is still more expensive than acrylics when comparing quantity for price though, so that technique is only really useful for small paintings. I have a few Holbein Acryla gouache tubes, and a full set of turner’s and even after using them very, very rarely, I am already out of a few colours because the tubes are tiny. I also have started trying out the Liquitex acrylic gouache, which comes in bigger bottles than other brands I’ve tried, which is cool. But, As you said, acrylic is just so much more cost effective, especially since even basic sets of professional quality paints come at half the price and twice the size if not more, of acryl gouache. I do like the matte look of gouache, but that is achievable with an acrylic medium too, so I might give that a go and see where it leads :)
@@myriamtillson Sounds like a plan! When it comes down to it the term "acrylic gouache" is actually misleading as what it is really is a MATTE ACRYLIC paint. If you can add a matte medium to acrylic paint then there you have it at a fraction of the cost. The paper I used for this piece was 300lb/640gsm, so it hardly warped at all. But if I use something thinner, I either stretch it beforehand or tape it to a board :)
I only have one with a stainless steel handle, it’s a collapsible travel brush. It’s wonderful, but unfortunately there is no branding on it so I have no idea where I got it or what it is! 😐 Sorry!

Are you a synesthete? Random i know. There’s different kinds. When i hear some or think of words, letters, numbers i see a consistent color associated with each. Different types of synesthesia Can be tastes, smells, etc. just wondering.
A little yes! I’ve definitely always seen colours when hearing sounds or music. As a kid, I recognised the songs my dad sang me by the colours that came up in my mind. It doesn’t happen for words or taste though.

Haha, you’re sweet! I do my best to reply to comments, at least when a video first comes out. I can’t keep up after a while, but I try to at least say hi to the first few people ^^ I hope your art is going well! Take care!
Sorry, me again. What was it you used after you had done the pattern for the shadows? Was it still gouache? You did the shading so beautifully xxxx
I used watercolour for the shadows :) Since I used Acryl gouache for the pattern, it didn’t reactivate when painted over :)
@@myriamtillson oh of course, because if it was regular gouache it would have gone all wrong. I'm a peppermint tea addict too, it's so lovely isn't it. Xxxx
Great work, how do you stop it warping, buckling
The paper I used for this piece was 300lb/640gsm, so it hardly warped at all. But if I use something thinner, I either stretch it beforehand or tape it to a board :)
@@myriamtillson thank you, keep up your great work up, love your videos
Thank you!
What kind of brushes were those? Were they stainless steel handles? If so, that is very cool.
I only have one with a stainless steel handle, it’s a collapsible travel brush. It’s wonderful, but unfortunately there is no branding on it so I have no idea where I got it or what it is! 😐 Sorry!
Sorry this is unrelated to the art cause I haven't finished the video yet but that short brings out your eyes so well!!
Thank you very much :)
Instead of relying just on acrylic for larger pieces do a combination of both? Just a suggestion.
That’s what I mean in the video yes, watercolour and gouache with a little acrylic thrown in sometimes 😊
it looks like some spanish decorative plates.
im earlyyyyy hi myriammmm
Joweyn Hello! Thanks for coming by😊❤️
If your getting into acrylics you should check out Greg Simkins here on youtube. His work is incredible and he has a few videos about the supplies he uses.
Thanks! I love Greg Simkins, he’s such a fantastic artist. I didn’t realise he was on TH-cam though! Thank you for letting me know ^^
Oh my gosh! You sound so much happier in this video. Maybe if you do Inktober again, you shouldn't be so strict on yourself. Maybe just stick to doing some kind of art every day.
You are the kind of person i'd love to befriend
Are you a synesthete? Random i know. There’s different kinds. When i hear some or think of words, letters, numbers i see a consistent color associated with each. Different types of synesthesia Can be tastes, smells, etc. just wondering.
A little yes! I’ve definitely always seen colours when hearing sounds or music. As a kid, I recognised the songs my dad sang me by the colours that came up in my mind. It doesn’t happen for words or taste though.
