My church uses off duty law enforcement as security on our campus. We didn't like the idea, but we had to accept that this is where we are in society. We have a responsibility to protect staff and parishioners!
I am in LE/SWAT. Our church doesnt have an official safety team, but since I am in LE and on SWAT, and just happen to attend their church as a private citizen, I am essentially their unofficial security, by myself. No one else carries 🤷♂️. And I am currently indifferent to the idea of a rifle at chur h.
Churches love to feel like they have an 'open door' policy. Does your home have such a policy, or do you make sure you know who is coming in? How about your place of business? How about the local bank, Costco or marijuana dispensary? They seem to prepare for the worst while we swing our doors wide open to any and everyone and hope for the best. Luke 16:18: "...for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light." Let's wise up christians.

Don’t take this the wrong way but only thing is that deterrence doesn’t always work. It may work for someone that wants a body count, hence Nashville, but that’s about it. When it comes to terror cells, it’s not going to matter whether or not if you have a fully equipped army standing there. On top of that, anyone can buy and carry any type of weaponry and look the part. Therefore, when it comes to regular private security especially with no type of background in anything, you have to take into consideration of their training, their type of training taken and things like that. Perfect example of training means nothing. Nashville has a requirement now that all school security officers are to take active shooter training. I was forced to do the state required course not long after I did a course out of state and some prior. I learned nothing from the state mandated course. They didn’t even teach about pie’n off or combat clearing rooms before entering. Sadly three times we had to clear the entire school before staff and students arrived. People I worked with made it a circus not knowing anything. Another thing too. The owner of the company has no background or training in anything other than guard card classes. Well, I mentioned to him about a few things we should be doing and never listened and never heard of things I was talking about. Sure enough, a teacher got robbed and stuffed in a closet. After that he finally listened. I can go on and on but point is, choose security staff wisely and not just anyone

The idea of security clothing for quick delivery identification is helpful. However, I would not encourage your whole team dressing the part. Strategically placing other team members in plain clothes helps mitigate everyone being easily identifiable.
Our security team is unarmed, we are just a front line of defense with radios to warn of a potential threat, one entrance past 4 people who know our church body, we have a monitor in the lobby that shows select security camera feeds so we can view the inside and outside parking lots, all doors are locked after annoucements. Our team has been here for over 2 years with only minor incidents.
@@normn5916 Sorry, but it's only a matter of time before you realize that being armed is a necessity. Just because you have only dealt with minor incidents, does not mean that couldn't change in a matter of minutes, then you will be regretting not being armed.
So you are saying that you have only passive monitoring. One competent gunner could wipe out anyone, pop out a window, and light up the crowd? False safety.
Most likely it's another democratic run city soft on crime - we have multiple ccw holders with multiple safety team members conceal carry - I don't think marking security personnel with identifying clothes is a good idea due to bad guys will know who to go after first.. just my opinion..
Concerned that as we continue to ramp up our security posture at our churches, we may invite escalation of the threats? What is the appropriate church security “sweet spot”? In terms of deterrence of criminal activity, there is no stronger preventive measure than having an off-duty, uniformed Police Officer on site. Don’t you think that the church service disrupters and the potential criminal threats just go on by when the see a marked Police patrol car and an armed uniformed Police officer on site? Any escalation in the church security posture involving untrained team members is only asking for trouble with the church property and liability insurance coverage?
I don't think I would worry so much about escalation of threats as how it may impact members and visitors. Criminals prefer soft targets, not challenges. I do agree that an off duty officer in uniform can be a great deterent. It is also important to understand that just because they are in a uniform does not guarentee they are better trained than someone in plain clothes or with a different background. But from a presence standpoint, uniformed filters a lot of threats
Anybody can practice SOAR but they have to be proficient with lethal or sub-lethal means. If no lethal then you're calling the police for backup and if possible evacuating members out the quickest exit lowest to ground. And lock assailant in the church or section of church if possible. Anybody could be taken to court so that's a given. Good communication by church might mitigate impact to insurance although insurance will probably increased unless secteam is especially covered.
@@WDBsirLocksight I have heard that some of the larger insurance companies who specialize in church property and liability, are no refusing to insure churches which have established safety or security teams. They seem to have no issue with having armed law enforcement present, but are refusing to cover volunteer teams organizing church members. Some of the insurance carriers are even now requiring churches to post the property as a NO WEAPONS, NO FIREARMS allowed zone. I certainly do not agree with this, but these issues are what church leadership are facing when it comes time to for their property and liability insurance renewal. I'm sure someone will be offended by that comment, but it's absolutely true. I wouldn't be so fast to eliminate gang violence as the motive simply because the deceased was an elderly person.
