That's why churces have outside security cameras. I can't image any car doing this that isn't captured by cameras. Also, once airbags are deployed, most cars won't start.
I’d think a mix of reinforced concrete planters, reinforced concrete benches large native natural stones and bollards spaced at 4-5 foot intervals could protect vulnerable areas while not being unattractive or terribly expensive. It’s definitely a challenge to be a hard target and be welcoming at the same time.
I just joined my church after decades of absence from the Lord our Savior, Jesus Christ. Freedom of religion, be it theist, polytheist, or atheistic, is important for everyone, however if you know the complete history of the world you will know that not all ideologies or belief systems are equally true in history or objectively good for a nation and it’s people. There are many sects, cults, and occultic types of mysticism with varying degrees of dark agendas. There are many religions/ideologies that have opposing beliefs like Buddhism vs Islam, Judaism vs Hinduism, Roman Catholicism vs the Orthodox church, & the Protestant church. Even big differences between Shiites vs Sufis, Mormons vs JW’s, Paganism vs Satanism vs Luciferianism. As well as imperialism, colonialism, marxism, capitalism, hedonism, and communism. Some aim towards an honourable and outward volunteering / serving type, others political power/control, others hoarding more resources/money, others pleasures, vices, and self-absorbing narcissism, and others seeking to contact & hire the dark arts of the various underworld evil forces to subject others. They are definitely all very different, and you cannot make a stable/safe, fair and just system for each nation if you try and mash two polar opposites together on fundamental issues that are central to each parties core identity. Americans are terrible drivers. Lots of speeding and plowing through red lights when people are crossing with the walk signal. It's called the California roll,as drivers don't stop. This is very concerning to me because in my church, the kids room is facing right at the road way and its the only area at the church that has a good view of that long stretch where a driver can speed up to 90 km/h towards us
Put bollards up so any car will be totalled before they can do any harm. In the UK we have bollards around schools so that drivers cannot hit children when they are leaving school as that has been a problem here.

Concrete barriers in front of main doors will help. Make them decorative, make them strong enough to stop a truck. Membership awareness and a well prepared usher team packing heat.
There needs to be Cement poles, cement block walls (filled with concrete) and BIG Planters added to protect any vulnerable areas.... Wal-Mart and Target did this years ago. If you do it right, it could be a nice beautification project for the outside of the church, but actually be to protect the church.

This happened at my church. It wasn't during a service, but our custodian was there. She wasn't physically hurt, but I know she was emotionally. It's hard to explain, but in front, there's an awning that you can drive under to pick up/drop off people, and the beams of it are connected to a raised concrete area that has plants on each side and a raised sidewalk type area you walk over to go from the parking lot to underneath the awning. Sorry for the long description. Anyway, someone drove over the raised area and into the front door. Then he backed up and did it again. I don't think he really get into the building itself, but just destroyed the 2 middle of the 4 doors. I can still see the black tire marks on that raised sidewalk area.

We placed large heavy planted trees aound the entrances to our buildings. Functional yet beautiful 1) deterrence 2) an actual physical barrier which will stop all but tracked vehicles. Effective does not have to be ugly. Pray Psalm 91.

Buy or rent concrete molds and ask the people of the church to volunteer to make and install them. There is someone with the expertise, from your church or a nearby church that would be willing to help. Sometimes it is good to reach out and ask for help.
I had a dream about 3 or 4 mornings ago that I was at a church gathering of some sort and when I went outside to see what was happening outside, gun fire broke out, so couldn’t see anyone that was shooting, and all I cared about was catching up with all the women & children and getting them to a hidden place and calming them down & getting them to stop screaming and to start praying for and with them for protection over us all, etc… in Jesus name. Great discussion! We were just talking about getting some decorative bollards in front of our new church main doors. Maybe even have some lights to illuminate the walkway for night services. Our older church location, we actually did have a couple accidentally drive into church from an elevated area next to us and caused lots of damage.

I'm the Associate Pastor at Church of the Open Door. This happened about an hour before our volunteers started getting there for the Sunday Am service. Our safety team watches a lot of these videos for training, I never thought we would be own here for this. We're getting security bollards and highly recommend for other churches to as well.

I sure will. I gotta brag on our volunteers. They jumped in got the mess cleaned up and we had water baptism and a fall festival that night and by the end of the night a temporary door was put up. It's awesome to see the church working together.
I’m thinking about my church, it would be nearly impossible to protect the building. Just too big of a footprint to stop all incursions. Maybe be able to protect the sanctuary, but there is the fellowship hall and classroom after classroom exposed. Depending on the hour it could be catastrophic, we’re talking hundreds of children in the classrooms and thousands in the sanctuary. The good thing is most of the exterior is brick, but that won’t stop a car. Sick times and sick people.

Thank God our church is BRICK. There was a woman, decades ago, that said she would get into our LDS Temple, without a recommend. She crashed her van at the entrance, totaled her Van, but not a scratch on the Temple. People really shouldn't mess with God. Have you found or done a study to determine the total number of incidents involving vehicles crashing into structures and what percentage of structures are placed of worship? I’d be curious if the number has a statistical significance.
We had a move of God in Leigh through a well known butcher. We ended up with a Pentecostal church of about 300 in a short time. I remember one guy got saved through blacking out going past our church n hitting a tree.

Suggestion: One method of prevention might be using members' vehicles stategically placed so as to prevent this kind of assault on our churches, especially during services.
There have been cases where elderly drivers hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes and run their car into a building before stopping. There have been three newscasts of this happening here, in Massachusetts, this past year alone. But none of these collisions were into Church buildings so far. The only incident on my Church property was an elderly woman backing out of her parking spot and cut her steering wheel a little too soon and the front drivers side wheel hit the parking lot berm.
Elderly are not terrorists. An accident is not intentional. A terrorist hate crime is intentional and with malice. There is a huge difference between the two.

However your previous comment was directed at elderly drivers. Speaking for many elderly people who still drive, some of us have little choice. Many are alone without those “loved ones” you mentioned and many others are ignored or forgotten. I dread driving, not because of my age, but because of the craziness of the numbers of distracted and reckless drivers. My eyesight too is not as good as it was but I can still see well enough to drive. I can’t read the license plate on a car up ahead, but I can sure as hell see the car! I would love to have my son or a neighbor invite me to go to the store with them, but if I don’t drive myself I will sit here and starve. I am certain most others my age who are driving are compelled to just as I am.

I’d think a mix of reinforced concrete planters, reinforced concrete benches large native natural stones and bollards spaced at 4-5 foot intervals could protect vulnerable areas while not being unattractive or terribly expensive. It’s definitely a challenge to be a hard target and be welcoming at the same time.
This is what they did on the bases in Afghanistan around all buildings and the whole base had concrete T-Walls surrounding it.

Not necessarily concrete. Cable barriers are less obtrusive and very effective if properly anchored.
Barriers do not have to be unsightly. Landscaping and trees can be quite effective. Also practically constructed ADA ramps can be made to work.

This is very concerning to me because in my church, the kids room is facing right at the road way and its the only area at the church that has a good view of that long stretch where a driver can speed up to 90 km/h towards us
Put bollards up so any car will be totalled before they can do any harm. In the UK we have bollards around schools so that drivers cannot hit children when they are leaving school as that has been a problem here.

This happened at my church. It wasn't during a service, but our custodian was there. She wasn't physically hurt, but I know she was emotionally. It's hard to explain, but in front, there's an awning that you can drive under to pick up/drop off people, and the beams of it are connected to a raised concrete area that has plants on each side and a raised sidewalk type area you walk over to go from the parking lot to underneath the awning. Sorry for the long description. Anyway, someone drove over the raised area and into the front door. Then he backed up and did it again. I don't think he really get into the building itself, but just destroyed the 2 middle of the 4 doors. I can still see the black tire marks on that raised sidewalk area.

We placed large heavy planted trees aound the entrances to our buildings. Functional yet beautiful 1) deterrence 2) an actual physical barrier which will stop all but tracked vehicles. Effective does not have to be ugly. Pray Psalm 91.

I'm the Associate Pastor at Church of the Open Door. This happened about an hour before our volunteers started getting there for the Sunday Am service. Our safety team watches a lot of these videos for training, I never thought we would be own here for this. We're getting security bollards and highly recommend for other churches to as well.

I’m thinking about my church, it would be nearly impossible to protect the building. Just too big of a footprint to stop all incursions. Maybe be able to protect the sanctuary, but there is the fellowship hall and classroom after classroom exposed. Depending on the hour it could be catastrophic, we’re talking hundreds of children in the classrooms and thousands in the sanctuary. The good thing is most of the exterior is brick, but that won’t stop a car. Sick times and sick people.

Start with the entrance doors and levels at ground level nearest the road, then see what is left.

She crashed her van at the entrance, totaled her Van, but not a scratch on the Temple. People really shouldn't mess with God. Have you found or done a study to determine the total number of incidents involving vehicles crashing into structures and what percentage of structures are placed of worship? I’d be curious if the number has a statistical significance.
We had a move of God in Leigh through a well known butcher. We ended up with a Pentecostal church of about 300 in a short time. I remember one guy got saved through blacking out going past our church n hitting a tree.

Suggestion: One method of prevention might be using members' vehicles stategically placed so as to prevent this kind of assault on our churches, especially during services.
There have been cases where elderly drivers hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes and run their car into a building before stopping. There have been three newscasts of this happening here, in Massachusetts, this past year alone. But none of these collisions were into Church buildings so far. The only incident on my Church property was an elderly woman backing out of her parking spot and cut her steering wheel a little too soon and the front drivers side wheel hit the parking lot berm.
Your having a berm around the parking lot is much more attractive than a wall, and partially serves the same purpose "accidentally".
Elderly are not terrorists. An accident is not intentional. A terrorist hate crime is intentional and with malice. There is a huge difference between the two.

I dread driving, not because of my age, but because of the craziness of the numbers of distracted and reckless drivers. My eyesight too is not as good as it was but I can still see well enough to drive. I can’t read the license plate on a car up ahead, but I can sure as hell see the car! I would love to have my son or a neighbor invite me to go to the store with them, but if I don’t drive myself I will sit here and starve. What do you think of the possibility of demonic influence in these cases? If people are tired or intoxicated or in a state of rage they can lose control. Worth considering, I think.

Absolutely, 1 Peter 5:8. I have found myself repeating this verse more and more frequently.
And YHWH allowing it because the church disregards His Word! If you're not living in His Word, you're living in the world. The church has chosen to follow the world for generations!
@Living4YHWH this is not necessarily true, tragedy and judgement, like the rain, fall upon the righteous and the unrighteous. What you said is hubris, believing you know the mind of God and His thoughts as well as those hearts that are affected, neither of which we can know.
