Lots of money to be saved in buying secondhand a top quality rimbrake bike. (I bought a Trek Domane lightly used rimbrake for a fraction of the cost of a more recent similar diskbrake version. Note that the rimbrake versions have better forks too)

I'd keep the bikes inside if possible. In the US renters/home owners insurance typically covers bike theft. Not sure where you live. Another thing that might be worthwhile if you plan to keep your bikes in the shed is to install security cameras.
Here in the UK you usually have to name bikes and values on your home insurance and as for cameras most criminals hide there faces and all it shows is them stealing your bike. I think an alarm that notifies you would be better IMO
Depends on insurance. Over a certain value, you have to name each bike. Mine is covered for 5k at home and away and didn't cose much to add onto the policy.
Sorry to hear this, my sympathies. I was pushed off my bike while cycling near Richmond park by a thief in a violent robbery, suffered extensive bruising. Recovered the bike thanks to a taxi driver witness helping me to follow the robber who then crashed the bike into another vehicle before escaping on foot. the bike was damaged but reparable. The physiological effects of such an attack are long lasting. I still cycle but choose my routes carefully.
Absolutely gutted for you, the issue in the UK being the thiefs know they'll only get a slapped wrist if caught. The way you're dealing with it shows your character & strength, much respect to you. On replacements, please keep the same rim brake theme.
Bike theft happens every day where I live. Pretty posh area but they found ways to sneak through 2 secured gate + 2 secured doors and steal from our bike lockers. My first expensive bike was stolen when I was a kid, ever since then I have all my bikes indoors even though I live in an apartment with limited space. (Except my hybrid steel bike that I never ride)

@@NeilLavitt There are ones like this that are available with battery too nowadays. Any HVAC company got these kinds of tools in their cars. It's quite common where I live. They just go to a bike parking place at a train station at night and cut like 10-20 bikes in a few minutes and throw them into a van

Strava is bad. I don't know why people post anything on that platform. I was using it years ago and turned out my boss at work was using Strava too and knew when, where, and how long I was riding my bike during work hours.

Before you order new bikes you better change the country you live in. Thieves usually keep coming back, they will never leave you alone anymore. And you better store your bikes in your room on the wall.

But I recently listened to a podcast interviewing Mark Cavendish and learned that thieves not only broke into his home to steal, but also had him at knifepoint possibly to extort more. Woke up on how this has shifted now certainly to involve organized criminals.

How were they able (if..) to use strava or youtube to find your location? Have you used the strava privacy settings? Did you also put footage of your home(town) in the video’s? I once showed a cycling youtuber how easy it was to find his house (and bikes….) through his own video’s. With his place he lives in, video’s of the backyard of his house (with his house and nearby houses in the footage), routes he rode it was easy to put a and b together. Always start recording few miles away from home, never your own house. Make sure strava hides the startpoint / endpoint of the ride (privacy settings). That should help a bit to make it harder to locate your bikes. Don’t give up and ride on.
Frederick I am gutted foir you, especially as you've taken all the right precautions. My 'best' bike, a rimbrake full Ultegra Boardman, I keep in the house(we have 11 dogs), I certainly wouldn't be happy with it in my new shed. It is strange cause I assume most of the stolen bikes get stripped and sold for parts. My 2 MTB’s and 2 also rim brake road bikes were stolen in 2023 it was also a professional job they see u on social media then track you to an area and target you for your bikes. They wait until the opportune time like when it’s raining so that it dampens the noise
Heartbreaking and infuriating! I'm not in the UK so apologies if I'm stating and asking the obvious: if bike theft is so big there must be a market for stolen bikes. Has anything been done to identify and shut down those channels? If demand disappears so does the problem. Of course the same delinquents will turn to other forms of crime but that's a whole new topic.
Sorry for you mate. I totally undertsand how you feel since it happened to me 2 years ago when my Canyon Lux and my Canyon Aeroad were stolen (during a rainy night too) in my garage.
That sucks. Your security was good, I don't even bother to lock my garage let alone chain bike to floor but I am in a quiet rural coastal area. Plus I'm not on youtube which must have been a factor as it seems you were targeted. I assume you have insurance which will soften blow somewhat?

You must file a complaint to the police and reach out to you insurer as you home insurance contract covers these acts of theft happening at a residencial location.
the brake lever are 3 times more expansive and still Not sufficient. -- you never can implement an hydraulic system within an rr brake lever correctly. compare to MTB disc brake actuators !!

This theft of your fantastic race bicycles is just so sad. I feel really sorry on your behalf. Hope your insurance will assist on the economic side. If you conclude that the specific Canyon is worth trying to re-establish in a way, I can support by searching in my country (Norway). Our aftermarket has one salesportal and is reasonably transparent and safe. Bikes are often in good condition (short season :-)). But anyway, when you are out cycling; every time you look over your shoulder, imagine all of us cheering you on!
hope you have good insurance coverage ...also. problem is with strava, google and your youtube channel, too much personal info becomes available. in Rome, Sicily or Naples, this would never happen.

How come rim brake forks are better? Disc brake forks have to be stronger than trim brakes forks because with disc brakes the force isn’t centric.

That anchor chain looks sheared means they used a type hydraulic cutting tool, jaws of life type thing.They cut two times. Those tools are very quiet.
Yeh, a compressor in the truck pressured up and a long tube to the cutting tool.
There are manual ones too. They look like a giant pipe wrench. You have to pump it a few times to make one cut..

the brake lever are 3 times more expansive and still Not sufficient. -- you never can implement an hydraulic system within an rr brake lever correctly. compare to MTB disc brake actuators !!

This theft of your fantastic race bicycles is just so sad. I feel really sorry on your behalf. Hope your insurance will assist on the economic side. If you conclude that the specific Canyon is worth trying to re-establish in a way, I can support by searching in my country (Norway). Our aftermarket has one salesportal and is reasonably transparent and safe. Bikes are often in good condition (short season :-)). But anyway, when you are out cycling; every time you look over your shoulder, imagine all of us cheering you on!

hope you have good insurance coverage ...also. problem is with strava, google and your youtube channel, too much personal info becomes available. in Rome, Sicily or Naples, this would never happen.

Gutted for you mate, I saw how much time and effort you put into them and can tell you were clearly attached to them. Horrible situation but looking forward - every cloud has a silver lining. Good excuse to get yourself an Italian bike with Campagnolo to help keep the brand in the spotlight 😉🤣
After seeing your post I have immediately moved my bikes from the garage into the house. Fortunately, we have enough room to do it comfortably. Will also take a look at insurance options. This has been happening ever since bicycles were invented, but what happened to your bikes, let it be again a reminder for all of us to do all we can to protect our bikes.
An interesting question... Will you stick to rim brakes or are you considering a disc brake bike?
