The Skid Factory is what all of us more die hard technically inclined MCM fans have been craving for years. This is a massive success in my opinion. You guys do things right, and show a fairly high amount of detail. Plus it's genuinely entertaining. Well done!
Are you saying you're not satisfied with "we're putting in coil overs and an exhaust" every third video? This series is far more interesting than the last few seasons of mcm combined.
You don't need to have a load of smoke off boost. The compensator needs opening up and the main fuel screw bringing back down a little. The compensator will usually have an eccentric bar and you adjust it by turning it in the sleeve.

My TD42 GU auto will be ready today after a Garrett ball bearing turbo, cross country i/c and 11mm pump are fitted. Aiming for 180hp. Was making 120. Can't wait!
Honestly this is great, not only did MCM become the best and most popular car show, but they found two other blokes who also Are awesome to watch, and do different content and there aussie to! I’m so sad that this is over now this has been the best build so far for mcm being a passionate outdoors enthusiast myself I loved this I’ve got a gq patrol with 170rwkw soon to be 200 but later on I’m going to do a Cummins 6bt conversion I’ve got a commonrail dodge engine sitting in the shed but I’m happy playing with the old tb42e atm till I blow it up hahaha
Gotta ask "Why tho?": That gauge has a 3 digit display, why couldn't they display the full egt rather than /10 ? I know "just add a zero", but that does my sense of righteousness a misfortune.
Setting up diesels is a black art. I found i couldny get the boost up without adding more fuel which then puts egt up and you need more boost to cool it! Everything works together it appears. Nice patrol and wish those motors were more available hear in Uk.
My next upgrade is my fuel system so watching this series has been really fun. My diesel pickup will hold 28-30 psi from factory. Looking to aleast double that by the time all my mods are done.
The build is great, the builders are great, the editing is great and the background music is great! Import a 5.9 12V and put that in a Toyota to get some real diesel power.
Another cummins fanboi starting a dick swinging contest. No one cares that you can make 2000hp on a 6bt tbat takes 15minutes to spool unless you pull it down on a dyno. I dont even care that this made 210hp. Real 4wding is about usable torque between 1500-2500rpm and fuel economy. No point having a 1000hp cummins if you range is only 300klm
It's not a contest when the competitors aren't even in the same class. And you obviously don't know anything about a 6bt because you can have an easy 400 hp that's completely reliable and still gets 14l/100km in a full size truck. Even at 1000hp the millage can still be great if tuned properly, like the DPC competitor who made over 2000 lbft and still managed 23 MPG. You can also 4 wheel with a gas suzuki samurai but people build what they want not what YOU want, that's why you see cars with supercharged LS engines when they don't even drag race.

Have a great day man, and I also like the HP numbers. I don't know if I just missed it, because I'm nearly asleep now, having trouble keeping my eyes open, but did you show or name a TORQUE number? It seems like it's over 400 lb ft the way she likes to rip of onces shes good and boosted on the pipe. So you don't need to keep the engine on full boil all the time since it seems there's a lot of torque to help keep you moving on the road when towing near, or at it's load limit.
Big, black poof when speeding off is common for older (and some new) diesel engines. The engine inputs a set amount of fuel, and there's not enough boost pressure to use all that fuel, so you're running pig rich. The smoking goes away once the turbo catches up and AFRs stabilize. Interesting to see it's such a common occurance for pretty much any diesel ^^

You should check out the Mercedes diesels, OM606, 648, 603 and 617s are all Bosch M-Series pump equipped engines, easier to work on and if you put 8mm plungers in them, you could do like 60 pounds of boost on a BorgWarner K29 sized turbo, which is great fun. I'd like to see you guys tackle that.
Love the series so far! Would have been good to see a bit more in depth regarding the pump tuning though. Fuel screw rarely needs to be touched if the tuner knows what he is doing.
Did you ever consider putting the EGT thermocouple in the exhaust manifold instead of the dump pipe? You'll get a much more accurate (ie: hotter) reading than the dump pipe...which is seeing the temps after the turbo has soaked-up much of the heat. When i owned my TD42 kettle, I had two thermocouples...one above and the other below the turbo. Ended up not bothering with the dump pipe reading. Love your channel by the way. Only became aware of it yesterday during the live broadcast by "Home Built By Jeff".
Still cant wait for you to pass me on the highway, Al (even if you do cover the front of my coach in soot).... One of my old coaches had the exact same problem at low RPM... But who cares, as long as you've got the boost :) .... damn that old thing still went well.

More diesel tuning please I'm getting right into it and have been doing the same to my Challenger with the dirty old 4m40 2.8 and getting surprising results but my egt's are getting up there always over 400 and seen 700 a few times I'm surprised the head hasn't cracked as there's receipts in glove box from previous owner spending $5500 on new motor cos of cracked head.

Not to mention putting coil overs on a car that I bet preforms worse with them.
Mod max handles amazingly well with coil overs. They were custom made specifically for our car so not sure why you’d think they don’t perform.

Note that you should take in consideration where you put your egt senser. Apparently it's a 200 degrees differents from dump pipe to exhaust manifold?
