    I bought one from Merard,s in Waterloo a few weeks ago and took my time figuring out where to put it. Settled on keeping the 8/2 wire cost down so 12' of the wire was all I needed. Previously I had a 32" wide Defiance wood stove with 8" flue but I'm getting too old to split wood and worry about the fire frying my 24x28' detached shop. I also had a 50 year old Dayton 5kw 220v. heater for the mild winter days, but it's heating element and cabinet get pretty hot and I'll prolly move it into the attached garage when I upgrade the house service. My King heater is also a 7500w like yours and the $469 price tag was about double the chinese stuff, but still $180 cheaper than the Dayton 7.5KW and the ads didn't say if it was US made or not. The USA made was a big selling point and I have a motto that goes like, " Buy the best and only cry once."
    One feature you didn't mention in the video was the safety feature of the heater where you here the click some time after the fan turns on when you first fire it up so there's always air circulating over the coils as they warm up. Likewise, when the thermostat shuts off the heater coils, .but the the fan keeps running to cool down the heating element. This should make the unit last a lot longer.
    My project now is to insulate my old shop one wall at a time so the unit doesn't run at the 7.5kw level 24/7.....lol. I enjoyed your review by the way and tossed in a thumbs up as well.

    • @k6outdoors
      @k6outdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good call out of the delayed fan settings, definitely knew about it just didn't mention it! I did similar on the wire length to save cost, stuff isn't cheap! I think youll be pleased with it and I'm a big fan of the USA stamp on the box. There are cheaper options but I agree with your motto! Stay warm and good luck with the insulation. Stay warm up north and happy holidays. Thanks for tuning in! 🍻

    Thanks for the review, very detailed. I have spent this winter building out a workshop in my double garage and using a small 220 construction heater which adds a ton to the electric bill plus it runs steady throughout the day, it cannot keep up to the cold we have been having for the past few weeks -20 to -35c.

      The construction heaters I looked at were 4800 watts . If theres any way you can insulate your big doors and seal any gaps of draft , it will make a big difference . I even thought of a curtains that drew to the sides , but too hard to seal . Sure beats nothing , or packing fire wood .

    Great detail, imo brand matters, good brands stake their lives on a good product, the last thing they want is to sell crap, can't say that about off shore no name brands, also, you get what you pay for, buy cheap, get cheap. The best thing anyone can do for themselves is stick with a good brand, research it, then research it again, read reviews, and the best way to know if a product is good, is people, people are not afraid to let others know if they bought crap, or afraid to say it was the best thing they did.

    A great video you have convinced me into installing my electric heater. I do a lot of favors for friends and family. They're really isn't much I cannot do and since I'm retired I have spare time on my hands. Where I live we don't get a ton of snow but it gets extremely cold. So far 4 months or so I stay out of the garage. I have a brick garage and of course no insulation except for the garage door itself. It's rather large and when I need to do something I hook up my kerosene heater. It does a nice job as far as heating a large space but there's two problems. First one is that you cannot control the heat. It's either on or it's off no in between. The second thing is when it's on it is extremely loud. I cannot even hear the TV or my music. So a few years back I had a friend of mine that I was able to get his Jeep back on the road a little money went out and bought me one of these electric heaters. I've had it sitting in the garage for at least four winters. I just did not think it could handle keeping the garage warm. Now after seeing your video I figure it's worth a shot. The only thing that it might cost me is for some electrical wire. I'm not sure if I have anything heavy enough for a electric heater.
    Great video thanks for sharing your experience.

    • @k6outdoors
      @k6outdoors  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I definitely think it will be enough to warm up, obviously less efficient since you have no insulation. What are your normal winter temps? Based on what I know a 7500 or 10000 watt would help point you in the direction of warmth. 10000 watts is going to put out about 25% more heat, just cost more.

Its only manually adjustable , but Im only down there once in awhile , so I dont mind paying a little bit to get some heat , when I need it . I usually only want to dry out wet collector cars . It easily heats 20 x50 ft . I noticed youve got an insulated large door . Ive got thin-slat all metal roll up doors like on store fronts . They have to roll in a ball so you cant insulate them , and they are both 9ft-6in wide . Thats where I loose heat , but Im not complaining .

    Dumb question but is start/stop the same as power on/off? I am looking for a heater that I can just use on weekends and I want to be able to just turn it off. I have been surprised that most electric heaters cannot actually turn off but just maintain the lowest heat setting, or its expected to be turned off by the breaker box. They are expensive now at $620.00 at the local Menards but if I can turn it off then its worth it.
    Great video BTW! Nice to see such a detailed review. The "you want to run it in summertime, you can, that's your life" cracks me up. I played that over and over until even my wife was cracking up.

    • @k6outdoors
      @k6outdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate you stopping by! You are correct, the start/stop is on and off. If you turn it off it wont cycle untill you "start" it, it works great. It is more expensive then other heaters but i can say it is built really well and your supporting US jobs. Covid and supply chain issues seems to be driving up prices, 11% rebate at menards :). Glad you found the comment funny! Good luck on the heater hunt, stay warm!

      Depends where you end up getting it and what size Amazon is more expensive. I ended up getting mine at Menards, and it was almost half the cost. I heat my garage 24/7 at 45 degrees to keep everything from freezing, so it was this or a gas heater that would work for me. With the price of LP and extra installation headache, I decided that electric would be the best route. For the past 3 years its been working great for me and I never have to go into the shop to check the temp, it can all be monitored from my phone. Great video! I just purchased an enclosed storage unit for my RV. The space is 14x36 and is 18 feet tall. It’s insulated. I’m looking for a heater that will just keep the space from freezing in winter so I wouldn’t need to winterize my RV. So I’d probably keep it at 45 degrees.
    Couple questions:
    1) Do you think this heater would do the job for my application?
    2) Just to confirm, this heater has an auto thermostat? In other words, if I set it at 45 it will cycle on and off to maintain that temperature without me having to be present.

    • @k6outdoors
      @k6outdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I cant say with 100% confidence that it would work (this size anyways). I have no problem with similar square footage but you are almost double the cubic foot due to the wall height. That being said i have no issue taking up to 70 degrees if i wanted. To answer your second question, yes it has the thermostat built in and turns on and off on its own to maintain the set temp. I hope this helps!

      @@k6outdoors maybe not "swivel at will" but it has a bracket that mounts to the top of the heater box and if you install the bracket "crooked" (or in this case aligned to wherever you'd like to point it at), that can be done.

    Depending on where you look, the price has doubled and even tripled from when you posted this (excellent!) video. $900-1400 range. For that money you’re close to a split mini heat pump that gives heat and AC, so this is too rich for me.

    • @k6outdoors
      @k6outdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate the feedback on the video! Unfortunately the prices have gone up on the heaters. They still carry them local to me and they are more "reasonable" still, check out the link www.menards.com/main/heating-cooling/heaters/electric-garage-heaters/king-electric-240v-heavy-duty-digital-forced-air-electric-garage-heater/kb2407-1-b2-eco/p-1461692447268.htm . Be careful of the mini split setup, as yes it will both heat and cool, but the closer to 0° F the outside ambient temp is the less heat it will be able to produce and it will have to work harder to produce that heat. I know a few people that have had to switch heating methods from a mini split as it was unable to heat the area they were wanting to. Here in Iowa it isn't uncommon to stay below 0 for weeks at a time and it is near impossible for the heat pump to generate any heat in those conditions. Thanks for stopping by!
