I remember playing this with my friend in the basement of his parents' house. We'd stay up late into the night playing the missions. This was so long ago, I'll cherish those memories forever.
I have vivid memories of being a child playing the southern gate mission, wondering if the orc waves at the beginning are infinite. Cutting down hundreds of orcs to find out that the answer was, no but there are a hell of a lot of them was incredibly rewarding
9:08 *And the whole time, Howard Shore's majestic score is playing in the background.* THIS. The whole game in general is uplifted by the soundtrack, but this level in particular has pieces placed perfectly. The retreat to the gate alone wouldn't have been as memorable, or as epic without the Prologue music. The amount of times I replayed this level just so I could time the arrival to the gate with the soundtrack is uncountable. (I even discovered the most hidden dialogue in the history of media by accident!)
@@NeverHard Well, to put it as simply as possible, when the Grond appears, Gandalf usually says: "Our gates cannot withstand it!" after a few seconds. However, by performing a _very_ specific glitch that causes the sound effects of the Grond scene to play out prematurely, it will cause Gandalf to say: "Grond, forged out of the Dark Lord's malice!" just before the second line. I did a couple of videos showcasing the glitch as well (with a phone, because I can't be bothered to get the average recording stuff like normal, reasonable people)
Those original lines of dialogue were an awesome detail, makes me wish I actually stuck with playing this game back in the day. Excellent video! doing great numbers I see, keep it up.
I love both games! Two Towers and Return of the King. But if they ever get a remaster Return of the King is mostly fine as it is. It just need some polish and maybe som tweaking of the hitboxes. Two Towers need (and deserves) some more new levels to fill in the gap. Taking more of the scenes from the first two movies however woldn't lend itself well to the confines of the game . Since it is a very straight forward hack and slash game with no room for stealth or bigger open maps. So playing as for example the hobbits in a stealth level or outrunning the nazguls on horseback as Arwen though they would be cool ideas are out of the question. So I was thinking of having new character added and a few levels in a new "path" where you could play out some scenes from Eomer and Ganalfs perspective. It's ofc only wishful thinking. Those games are lost forever in licening limbo and will never see the light of day again. I'm very happy that I own the entire lot for PS2 including Third Age:D
Love these games. I remember The Two Towers being significantly harder than Return of the King. That last mission at Helms Deep on Two Towers was rough haha
I really wish they could have remade these titles into 1 game with the same gameplay and missions, but updated graphics. Called it, ''The Lord of the Rings: Trilogy'' like the one they actually teased at the end of this game, but never came.
The two towers/ROTK games were amazing. Felt good grinding the difficulty and unlocking new characters and cheats. Getting enter the matrix is dope too tbf
It's crazy how good this game looks on emulation-- which more or less mirrors my memory of what it looked like in the early 2000's. But if you ever get the chance to play the actual game on console, it is a gloriously blurry mess.
Great video dude, loved this game as a kid and still do. I'll need to return to it soon. The alternate realities you make while doing certain characters you brought up was so real! Young me would do that, imagining Faramir back at Minas Tirith and so-on. I would also do those scenarios in my head playing things like Age of Empires as well. (AOE2 had a full Middle Earth conversion mod as well. I wonder if it would work on the new editions?)
Its a shame they never did a follow up remaking the whole trilogy using the baseline they'd established for this game, imagine this same approach with the whole trilogy with Boromir replacing Faramir during fellowship. Would have sold like hotcakes. Instead we got side quest fantasy roleplay follow up fellowship from temu.
I had a brother gift this to me along with the gamecube, he asked the staff to trade out the mario party it came with i loved this game poured hrs into it, had a friend that had the two towers, I actually kind of liked two towers more for some reason, he would come over and bring his copy of bf1942 which I would play, and we would just game out for hrs into the morning. Days gone but not forgotten.
An amazing review as always🔥🔥 It’d blow my mind if you end up doing a review on The Third Age, I feel like I haven’t seen that much coverage of that game on YT Also unrelated, but would you ever consider revisiting any of the other Dynasty Warriors games to review? I really enjoyed your review of DW7
Prepare to have your mind blown, my friend. I'm definitely doing a review on The Third Age. I've got a lot to say about it. If this video does well, I'll do The Third Age next. If it doesn't, I'll do a different video next and The Third Age after that. And yes, I'd love to do more Dynasty Warriors in the future. Preferably one of the Empires games. I'm just really struggling on which one to choose.
They don't make lotr games like this anymore. Say what you will of EA but home boy knew how to make a lotr game. And you will notice that lotr games dipped in quality once EA lost the licence.
To me this was kinda like bfme 1st game was good, but the 2nd game equally as good if not better and more polished. I remember the berserkers being absolute cocks in the 2 towers omg were they annoying specially at helms deep when you got to the hornburg and when the wall blew up i was stuck on those parts of helms deep because of those damned berserkers. every time i died i would say the theoden line "the fortress is taken..it is over" or "what can men do against such reckless hate ?" then after awhile it became "mother *uc*er !! get up and move idiot!!" uhhh good times
They need to remake this game and turn it into an RPG. Let me ride my horse and travel to Helms Deep, Or Gondor or a suicide mission to Mordor or Isengard
is this clown really dumping on LOTR the third age? wow. Dood its literally just an FFX reskin, they had the license to the movies not the books stuff which is why Bombadil isnt in the game they literally just had all the licensed scenes and decided to make a 20-30 hour FFX reskin with LOTR properties. Just like ROTK it wasnt ground breaking it wasnt innovating it was just another chance to immerse ourselves in the universe and for them to make some money. I have a gamecube emulator and have been playing through the series Third age is not a waste of your time either for RPG fans or LOTR fans. Play this over a weekend and you wont regret it

Same. We rented this and Enter the matrix one day and it was one of the best days of my teens
One day we shall have a Skyrim-style open world game where we'll be able to explore all of Middle-Earth. One day.
Don't hold your breath. Been waiting 20 years now...
there is, though its not that great basically a wish version of WoW

the Shelob boss fight as low level Sam makes you want to throw your tv out the window
What about beating every level as LV1 Frodo?
Never Hard you say? More like: Never Misses!
Again, such a joy to watch your content
Wow bro the Marky Mark roast 10/10
I see you're saving the best game for last, Third Age smokes the rest.
I'd completely forgotten about those, incredible
I’ve remembered that “which ones X” all these years
Sir, you have won the thumbnail game and I salute you lol
Thank you for including the best BTS ever, Hobbits on Gaming
Enter the matrix was an epic game aswell. I spent hours on Return of the king and enter the matrix.
We had The Two Towers on Xbox when I was a kid. Loved it.
Love these games. I remember The Two Towers being significantly harder than Return of the King. That last mission at Helms Deep on Two Towers was rough haha
Pelennor Fields was pretty difficult that gave Helms Deep a run for its money
Defending that gate from all those kamikaze orcs was such a challenge

ARCHERS ON THE WALL!

One of the things I remember from that game is how absolutely busted Pippin was. He was basically a cheat character.
The two towers/ROTK games were amazing. Felt good grinding the difficulty and unlocking new characters and cheats. Getting enter the matrix is dope too tbf
It snowed the day we got this game and we lied to my mum that school was closed just to play it, then had a snowball fight as these characters.

Well done, sir
Quality video dude!! Glad this came up through the power of algorithm!!
Awesome video. Subscribed.
Ah, a man of good taste I see.
I played this game so, so, so much when I was a kid.
I remember playing this on the XBOX and loving it!

Never owned either just rented both games, from the library for £1 for the week. It was the best.
Needles to say i was ropeing in all of my gamer friends to play this on co-op.😅
Two Towers and Return of the King were awesome … I vaguely remember playing an awful Fellowship of the Ring game

That would have been so good!
I always liked this game. I think I still have it stored away.
Still better then most games today
Enter the matrix is badass.
wish they would re-release this game and the two towers as they are or a hd version of both game would be cool.
Awesome! I was just rewatching the trilogy
Omg I love this game on the original Xbox! Also had Two Towers 🥰🤘🏻
Loved this and 2 towers game. So unbelievably good even on emulatord
Ps2 had some sweet local coop games. My brother and I played these ones the most.
Return of the king
Lego Star Wars saga
Shaolin monks
Nice review!
Hey enter the matrix is an acceptable substitute
Enter the Matrix was so good as a kid.

Fantastic game, they should do a remake of it.
They need to be remade
Which emulator do you use mate? I’m looking at getting one. Any suggestions? I’m not techie
I'm using PCSX2. Pretty easy to set up.

Wasn't there a Fellowship game where you had to pick mushrooms and stealth creep around Nazgul in the Shire?

Enter The Matrix was not a bad game… of the many awful games you could have gotten you at least did get a banger.
Oh yes, I loved it so much as a kid.
I'm just gonna give my hot take. This game is seriously over rated. So repetitive. Third age was such much better.
