Virgin Aragorn: Fights Sauron's forces at the black gate while Sauron watches from afar
The Chad Berethor And CO: Goes right infront of the Dark Lord's gaze and shatters him for fun
Proof that a view count doesn't dictate quality by the way. 2.4k is hard to get for videos like this, but this feels like a video made by a top TH-camr. Great stuff, my man
The moment i saw the battle system was inspired on final fantasy X i had to play it because I love that!
The one time I wouldn't complain about a game completely ripping something off. It worked so well
Fun fact, you can one shot the eye if you stack the items "Longbottom RallY", "Morgul Decay" + "Haunted Dust",buff dmg with Berethor and hadhod and then use Hadhods best blunt strike. Pretty fun.
Any more such similiar fun facts? Kinda fun to know actually
At a thrift store, they sold me a gamecube disc case for $15 dollars.
In said case was LOTR 3rd age, return of the king, medal of honor rising sun, namco museum, X-men Legends, Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, all scratchless.
When they showed me, I was trying not to have my eyeballs explode or have anyone else witness it, so I was like, "ok yeah, that seems fine."
MoH Rising Sun is an all-time classic
RotK legit is the best Tolkien game ever made.
Hey man, this is a 10/10 from my childhood. Dont make me go back and play this as an adult 🤣🤣
This vid made me sub.
Do it. I dare ya. And thanks so much man! For both the kind words and entertaining username :)
Same! x'D but emulator though. I would (almost) trade half my nuts for an actual pc port.
Ian MacKellan and Christopher Lee both recorded new dialogue. And that Gimli voice was actually the same guy who voiced Eoden!
“Does anyone remember this game?”
Hadhod- “I THINK I DO!”
Personally I disagree with your takes on Morwen's strength.
Once you get her passive skill that gives her Crits while in Perfect Mode, she becomes a very powerful. Her strength isn't really big numbers, but that both "Battle Haste" and "Haste of the Elves" stack letting Morwen essentially attack repeatedly. (As long as you don't use 'slow' skills)
But yeah... her Thief skilltree only has 2 useful skills, Steal Action (cause she will burn through AP) and Cloak of the Plains which prevents her from being attacked for 3 of her turns.
This is the second year in a row where I watch this video during the holidays. Your videos are genuinely funny and I thank you for spending your time, effort and money to create this kind of stuff for us.
As simple as the story is, I still love how there is nothing special about Betethor except the circumstances he has to overcome. He goes from disgraced knight to madlad.
Holy shit. This was absolutely hilarious and also tugged at my nostalgic heartstrings. You've earned my subscription.
(No seriously. For a small content creator, this had some pretty great production value/editing)
Thank you my man! I'm a perfectionist so I'm glad the extra week of editing pays off in the end.
@@JumboJenkins You could absolutely be an Elf by the way 😉
Yes! 😎✊
There's only one tactic in this game. You spam spirit power on Idrial until you unlock the ability Aura of the Valar which "Automatically revives one party member if struck down.". This ability resurrects your party members when they die and restores their health and mana/power to full AND makes it their turn. Then you just put a lot of points into Initiative to make sure she will go first and you are invincible.
I played this game a lot when i was a kid and revisited it as an adult and even though with all the flaws its a really fun game, but probably only if you are a LotR nut like me.
I loved your video and the "three stinking days" part made me lose it and had to make a clip out of it to send to my friends
Also the drummer in Moria, that spawns unlimited enemies, to farm exp and proficiencies. Did that for a whole night and killed the Balrog in 1 turn with 1 loud water fury
I have finished it without idrial but it was one of the toughest play throughs I've ever done. I had hadhod berethor and eadan with elegost in support spamming crippling shot lol. Helms deep was the closest I've been to throwing my ps2 out the window.
@@kerrymandanny8135 Oh man i can just imagine the pain you went through. The stairs battle in Helms Deep took hours for me on hard WITH Idrial. I raise my glass to your persistence and sheer will
I played it as a kid with my dad in koop and then aboout 7 years later with a friend. It was awesome and so nostalgic! We grinded and leveled the elvenstones and stuff on general encounters, Idriels spells were op and it... was just a blast :D
Bro, I gotta say I have not laughed that hard at an impression until "3 STINKIN DAYS!!!!!" Fucking hilarious
Amazing game, but I wish the focus was on the quality more than the quantity of battles. The boss battles were the life of the game. I absolutely love the battles, the LoTR world, all of the mechanics, but it becomes repetitive very fast. After Balrog, I lose interest. Still, some amazing moments that I'll never forget.
This is the only lotr game that I couldn't fucking finish.
I played this game so many years ago. In my childhood. I could see the five party members in the menu, but couldn't read the names. I was like: "Yes, Beregornd, elf lady, dunedan guy, dwarf man, Rohan woman and... and... nobody else, right?
Jumbo Jenkis: "Eaoden"
me: "Ohh yeah... I guess this guy existed. God this game was weird"
I think the Ropes of Shadow move drains the target of their AP. in Evil Mode you can pretty much kneecap the entire party so that they can’t use any moves other than basic attack
I remember liking this game and was recently looking to see if it ever came to PC. But watching the beginning of your video I was trying to remember why I liked it so much. I remember liking the combat, but it was when you were talking about the audio effects and played some that I got hit with nostalgia waves. I also remember liking the aspect of loot and gearing up.
When I was a kid I got what I thought was the third age used from GameStop, only to find it had the return of the king disk inside the box. Always wondered what the real game was
Remember getting this game when it came out. I was 11 and a huge LOTR fan (still very much am). Had no idea this game was about made up characters and didn't know what turn-based combat was at the time so, at the start, I was really disappointed. But I kept playing and got so immersed in the world it built, being able to explore Middle Earth in ways you couldn't do in the movie tie-in games. I remember spending hours running around Helms Deep, replaying how the battle went in the movie, and exploring every square inch before even starting the missions. Even though it was linear, it still had that open world feel. And as someone who liked to draw made up Middle Earth characters, the gear system in this game basically brought all that to life. Idk how I managed to actually beat the game as a kid, but I remember leaving a lot of the characters' abilities on the table. So, about 5 years ago, I managed to pick up a cheap ps2 at a flea market and pop in the copy of the game I had for so long, Surprisingly, the game held up. Felt different and more rewarding making full use of everyone's abilities and all the items aside from kingsfoil, and mostly getting immersed back into Middle Earth, learning to appreciate the amount of time you'd spend in each location (even Moria). Glad knowing all these years later that there are people who appreciate this game, faults and all. And yes, I wish we fought at the Black Gate instead of the eye.
I love that a rounding error allowed me to play evil mode as the eye of Sauron before I defeated the eye.
11:05 I don’t remember shit about this game after Helms deep
I thought this guy was a huge youtuber til i saw after the video ended. Absolutely epic. Epic video
An awesome review for one of my childhood favourites. Amazing job the on video, subbed
When the wise wizard sends a party to their death.
Go attack barad dur while i sent a hobbit in
Never played this game but lots of the others. Your comedic timing was on point. You've earned yourself a subscriber good sir keep it up !
Thank you Anthony! :)
I've just used older weapons that deal less damage throughout the game in order to unlock all the moves. You might say that's a really poor excuse and no one should have to do that to get the full experience and you would be right. Still I'd say the super moves like northern storm and flames of ruin are worth the grind because they are just so cool.
I literally just played through this again last holiday season. I was surprised how enjoyable it was going back to it almost twenty years later. Once you get a good grasp of how stats and skills work its a fun little RPG from the Jackson age of LOTR. Plus having different skins for each piece of equipment based on the art and prop design from the movies is a nice touch.
Apparently the original idea was for this game to pull all sorts of lore and content from the book trilogy but EA only had the rights to use content from the film properties. Would have been cool to see Tom Bombadil casually show up or something.
i can't wait for this channel to take off, great content
You and me both, buddy. And thank you!
fuckin love this game to this day. great, and I mean GREAT review man. keep it up
Thank you man! Hope one day I have numbers like you, thought I recognised your username! 😅
Dude let’s freaking go! I absolutely frothed this game and still do
I had to google some aussie slang there 😂 Mate, I frothed too. I frothed hard style.
i played this game, thought this game was super dope because i was a huge fan of FFX and Lord of the Rings, i think the issues with this game are indicative of all JRPGs at this time, super grindy but fun parts
Yes, I do remember it and want to play it now and am mad and sad that I can’t 😡 😢
I do remember this game and I loved it. Played it on the original Xbox.
I’m actually playing it again on ps2 emulator.
Really good review and production value. Awesome video!
Glad you liked it bud! Thank you for the kind words :)
“Like a wasp has just gotten into the pantry”. Oh, man is it painful to biff wine out one’s nose 🤧
A game I never completed as a child and would absolutely love to go back to!
16:59 smiling the whole video from my favorite game with this great video and then this happens and I'm dying laughing, had to subscribe!
Thank you Trent! Enjoy your stay my man :)
"(Helms Deep) one of the longest endurance battles in the game"
You mean there's worse??
Hearing the yu-gi-oh forbidden memories music really awoke something in me LMAO
I absolutely love this game man. The combat system is phenomenal.
This game fucking ruled as a kid!! Also appreciate the hate for Pelennor Fields - that level is bullshit, even playing with cheats
Yoo, I never had this game but played it at my friends place and I was amazed at the idea of sorta following along after the Fellowship but not being them, now I just question why? Lol. Good video, quality made! Glad it popped up in my feed.
This made me laugh so hard. Thanks man, subscribing for sure
Thank you my man! And excellent username 👌
The steal item thief skill nets you unique weapons from boss units if I recall.
Random probability, but yeah, sometimes you’ll get a rare weapon or piece of equipment from boss units
I played this game all the way through. The enemies got rather repetitive. I don’t remember too much about it. But I do remember the battle with Sauron. I constantly used dwarven ale to negate the fear handicap and then I would just have the elf maiden blast Sauron with some kind of water attack. I don’t recall how many times I leveled up the character’s abilities. I did go back to replay certain areas to build them up a bit. I do remember the Ranger’s arrows of sleep, and the Gondorian’s weeping blade attacks being pretty handy. I have been considering re-playing this game. I should try to dig up my old, save files to see how well I did. 🤔
I just used the item that removes all armor and won in 3 turns.
Though the story to me is not even required due to what it is all about, the gameplay was pretty fun for what it is, a FF clone. When you emulate this on Dolphin at 2K or 4K at 60fps, it looks amazingly beautiful. Turn on per pixel lighting, even better. Get some upscaled/HD textures, looks great! The special effects for spells and such look pretty good even for an older game like this. I have to say I had a pretty good time with it. :D
Holy shit, I never even considered playing this on Dolphin! Wouldn't have had to deal with hideous bloom misalignment you can see in all the gameplay.
I'd love to do this myself. What's the easiest way to go about it? Already got dolphin and the rom of the game.
Mate, the last time I used Dolphin was probably in 2016. I haven't the slightest clue 😐
I played this game as a youngling
Fun fact it has a 2 player mode
In 1 sitting me and another guy got to the Sauron fight
I think why its fun is that theres no excessive stuff
You came for turn based fighting thats what you get
loved the video
it's my favourite ps2 game ever I still play to this day
thank you for reviewing one of the best rpg on the ps2 in my opinion
as always your videos are perfection
Thanks so much Ryan, super glad you enjoyed 😁 And finally someone else who played it!
Played this game upon release and was blown away by the jrpg style game
As a kid I got to Helms Deep and couldn't beat the final battle
I still love this game, recently replayed it on the original xbox. Quite possibly my favourite game ever, yet i can never explain why..kind of similar to why i never understood a relatives obsession with obi wan on the same console.
I loved this game, thanks for the nostalgia trip, I'm also from Scotland. Cheers
It must've taken a lot of restraint to not talk about how the battle system of this game is lifted 1:1 from Final Fantasy X. I don't even want to give it too much of a hard time for that since I think that battle system is really cool and I wish more games used it. That said, this game burned me out by the time I got to the Mines of Moria. I think it goes to show that a game needs to be hitting above par in several categories to keep someone's attention, you can't just lift the gameplay from a successful title and call it there. FFX's characters and story are more interesting than the Tolkien fan fic we got here. The sphere grid is a cool way to visualize level ups whereas the skill tree system in the Third Age is redundant and confusing like you said. I feel kinda bad for picking on it because of course a licensed video game isn't gonna measure up to what is widely considered one of the best RPGs of its generation, but they've made the comparisons plain to see. Just wanted to get what thoughts I had about this game out there since I planned to do a video on it myself but lost interest. Thanks for the video!
I don't blame you for losing interest but I had that history to push me through. I knew it was very similar to FFX but I don't know enough about JRPGs to be confident in that. Like if I did make a point about it in the video I would've expected someone in the comments to just pop up with "well actually this game is far more similar to Shin Megami Literature Club: Boku No Banana Festival" and I would've been like "aye whatever you say senpai".
@@JumboJenkins ah you've revealed your plebian knowledge of JRPGs yet again! Shin Megami Literature Club: Boku no Banana Festival (known colloquially as merely SMLC:BnBF) is one of the most sorry excuses for a JRPG!!! /s
Baka no, etcetera 👹💩🙈🎎🎌
You must be some manner of simpleton if you're confused by the skill tree system in this game...
Me and my mate play the living s*** out of this game when we were 12 years old We were stuck on the balrog for hours then when we finally beat it we screamed the house down 😂
Good times
I LOVED third age and mega man x command mission. 2 underrated RPGs
I never managed to make it to the balrog I just got bored of it before that
I love this review, it’s jokes !! 😂😂😂😂😂❤
Eaoden was so boring that i forgot he existed until you mentioned him lmao
Then again, it's been many, MANY years since i played this game.
I remember loving the hell out of it but i was in a turn-based RPG kick back then.
Lol, what a dis on Eaoden. The boy got snuffed.
Thank you so much for this LOL I love.....no This Is my Favorite game ever.
I knew Sackboy was cheating on me.
I love this game. It's the definition of mediocre cash grab. But I played through it listening to audiobooks and really liked it. The story had potential. Have you ever watched a series that had six or eight episodes. Wishing they'd done a season of 22? Because stuff needs explaining. That's this story.
Very nicely said, sometimes "mediocre" is all you need. And yes! This is definitely an "audiobook/podcast" game, that's brilliant way to put it.
Awesome game. Never beat it, but its an awesome game
recently played it and I had a lot of fun, but god is this game mediocre. the story is bad and makes no sense and it makes me cringe. the combat is fun, but not well balanced. and the game is basically only combat and very basic exploration. this game is way more linear than final fantasy 13 and that certainly means something.
but somehow I still had so much fun with this game. the lotr soundtrack probably helps a lot.
I played this game and I think I quit at the Witch King fight :D I thought it was kind cool though (mostly because I had recetnly played FF10 and was high on Lord of the Rings)!
The Pelinor fields Witch King Fight is probably the hardest fight I have encountered in an rpg that is not a superboss
2:18 ROFLOL
i could never do the final battle
Rings of Power starts kicking off in episode 4, big long action set piece in episode 6 and some trippy stuff in episode 8. Binge it in a day and you'll like it.
i like how this dude goes into saying he likes it and then he explains why xd its more that he likes lord of the rings in general not rly this game
