    I've gotta say, I really hate the mentality that just because a character's actions, morals or beliefs don't 100% align with your own, that it automatically makes them "annoying" or "stupid". Both sides of this conflict have points that are valid, but neither side has the absolute perfect solution. Looking at the whole thing like it's black and white in that one side is completely right and one side is completely wrong is IMO, a very close minded way to look at things.

    • @Omegafire17
      @Omegafire17 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Sadly though, Jordie's had that sort of mentality since the beginning. Her reactions to Professor Port, even after it's established that he's more than what he initially appeared as, still remained in the general vein of "Eww...", for instance
      And as someone who looks at everything objectively regardless of my personal feelings - or as closely as possible to such, at any rate - it really, really irks me too. Nowadays, the reactions without her are far more valuable than those with... and while I'm sorry to say that outright, it's come to that point imo :/

    • @abaddonarts1129
      @abaddonarts1129 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Exactly that. Yes, the characters are 'acting like robots' and only following orders. That's how the military works and how they're meant to be portrayed in the show. It seems Jordie simply doesn't like the fact that they don't fit her idea of how they should be acting, as well as the fact that they're fighting the 'Main Characters' of the series makes them 'stupid' and bad. If they were being 'robotic' simply to force the plot along, then yeah, it would be super stupid, but CRWBY has done a good job of showing their opinions during the fight despite following the rules.
      (Also saying it in the tone that you do, like 'Clover is a shiiiithead' at 33:34 sounds super fucking childish. I've gotta be honest, this is the first reaction from this channel I've watched and all the interjections like that don't make me want to watch another.)

      Man i can't thank you enough to being able to realize this! So many people on this fandom feel so smart declaring which party is the absolute villain of the situation while the whole point is showing that neither side is perfect

      yes, but Clover was STUPID. All he had to do was message ahead to have reinforcements available for Tyrian, and then when Crowe walks of airship surprise take him down just like in chapter 1. No conflict.

      Actually that isn't really true: soldiers haven't really had that idea of strict adherence to rigid orders since the era of Napoleonic line infantry, Rather, the soldier is given a mission, a set of parameters defining how that mission is to be performed (usually negative statements, like "do not fire unless fired upon" or "do not initiate combat with groups who are not openly armed"), and allowed initiative to figure out the best way to perform it, based on the understanding that a soldier on the ground might have a better grasp of the immediate situation than was present in a briefing hours or days before. In this way they focus on achieving the _intent_ of their mission rather than simply adhering to a rigid plan. The approach was pioneered in the 19th century by Germany as _Auftragstaktik_ .

  • @ReklawLah
    @ReklawLah 4 ปีที่แล้ว +70

    I don't expect Jordie to understand what it's like being in the military, but disobeying orders is the best way to get you and those around you killed. Clover was a good man, and laughing at his death was a very strange reaction, imo.

    I disagree with that for a specific reason: when they received the new orders in last episode, Vine and Harriet actually explained why they agreed with Ironwood, and Elm showed how much Yang and Blake's "betrayal" pissed her off... so I'd say they didn't fight team RWBY only because they were following orders... except for maybe the only one of the ace ops who was holding back and clearly less invested in the fight 🤔

      Yang did make the right move though. She tried to find the middle ground between trusting her leader and trusting Ironwood and it worked because it helped force him to trust Robyn. But unfortunately in the end because of Cinder that was fragmented and backfired. The issue with the ace ops is how personally they take everything related to jurisdiction and how the thought of betrayal affected them. The remainder of RWBY didn't trust Ironwood completely. Yang is the one that was lied to and manipulated her whole life even before Beacon so she wanted to trust Ironwood but didn't want to betray her team and especially her sister. So trusting Blake she took the best course of action to try and play both parts without choosing sides.

    Anyone else feel slightly annoyed with her comments about the Ace-Ops? I don't just want to hear her constantly with, "I never liked them anyway" or "I hope you get knocked out". Also what does she mean by "It doesn't matter how I feel, I never liked that"? This season has been about the middle ground of morality, showing not everything is just good or bad, and in a military your personal feelings never matter about your decisions. You are told what to do and you follow it, your main goal is to defeat the enemy! That's literally all there is to it! Of course you're not supposed to embrace the concept but that's how a military environment works.

    • @eliudesantos3237

      100% agree with you, man. The RWBY did betrayed Ironwood and the Ace-ups while they gave them nothing but trust and loyalty. Ironwood was willing to let them keep the lamp and even let them know about his top secret about Aminy tower. And what the protags did? Lied to James about the lamp, Salem and leaked the info about the tower. If Ironwood lost trust on them is totally their fault.

    • @levelroc
      @levelroc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I totally agree with the analysis of the military behaviour and to why the ace-ops act like this, but can we PLEASE cut the bullshit about team rwby being the villains here? Yes they didn't give ironwood the same trust he gave them (i personally think with good reason, or at least to explore the main cast going through a gray path), but ironwood now is abandoning their only chance to reunite rhe world after beacon, along with all the people of mantle (that are 100% going to die without atlas, if it wasn't clear), all because he is now driven by fear and paranoia, for fuck sake he totally fell for cinder trap showing her where the maiden was! So stop being back seaters, thinking your idea of what to do in the situation is the absolute best and team rwby is too dumb/bad/whatever to understand that, the entire point here is that people are doing what they think is best, NOT what is empirically right.

    I'll be real honest here, this is a real conundrum. In terms of keeping the relics safe, Ironwood has a point, albeit it being a heartless solution. On the other hand, Team Rwby, who hold the values that Ozpin holds, cannot morally accept Ironwood's solution. This right here is exactly what makes Salem's machinations with Watts and Tyrian so effective; no matter how they split it, neither group is going to win this because they have to oppose each other instead of cooperating. We got another Fall of Beacon on our hands. Master stroke there, cannot wait to see how it all plays out from here.

General Ironwood and Raven are some of my favorite characters because they aren't straight up evil! CRWBY did a good job writing Ironwood because he brings up good points. Concerning Clover's actions. He is a millitary man following orders. That did not make him the bad guy. That is millitary culture. Not following orders could cost you or others around you your lives.
    However, that said, to blindly follow orders can be equally as bad. Clover should have assessed the situation before solely focusing on his orders. Tyrian was the bigger threat at the moment. He should have followed Qrow's lead to handle Tyrian first. Rather than teaming up with Tyrian to take down Qrow.
    And as matter of fact, Clover did team up with Tyrian, albeit indirectly, to take down Qrow initially. I would think most military men would think that a bad tactical decision. I doubt even Ironwood would condone that action.

      Tyrian pops into the Fray and Qrow immediately turns to attack him, as it should be. He's kind of a high priority target there.
      But then Clover continues to attack a diverted Qrow? Ignoring the killer in the room. (Or is it Tundra?). You'd think he could set aside the boyscout routine for a minute and assist with the more immediate danger. You could almost say Clover and Tyrian teamed up (passively) to take down Qrow.

      No, historically speaking you're more likely to lose if your soldiers are fighting with their brains switched off. While you don't want open insubordination, modern military tactics are based around the "mission-type tactic" system where a goal is set and field commanders delegated a lot of responsibility in how to achieve it, including being permitted to question if an order previously given would still be given in their current situation, and to not follow it if they feel it would not be. The focus is on achieving the _intent_ of orders rather than precisely following every letter of them.

      I really hated this scene when I watched it for the first time.
      I still don't like it and think it really stretches credibility, but I've at least kinda made my peace with it.
      On rewatch it really is Clover that is constantly going after Qrow instead of Tyrian. So if you're prepared to believe that Clover is so invested into following Ironwoods orders that he'd neglect recapturing Tyrian (which I still think is a stretch, hence I only kinda made my peace) the scene kinda makes sense. Because this puts Qrow in a really bad spot:
      If he doesn't change anythin it is 2 on 1 against him and he'll likely be incapacitated before long and have to hope that Clover manages to take down Tyrian afterwards. But he doesn't want to give up that control and so he instead choses to fokus more on Clover instead of Tyrian to make it 2 on 1 in his favor.
      And if you look closely Qrow isn't really working with Tyrian but just not directly attacking him anymore and it's Tyrian that is actively helping him.
      But I'll definitely agree that Qrow attacking Clover when he'd just kinda got Tyrian, instead of switching tactics and secure Tyrian before continuing the fight with Clover, was really stupid.
      That said I still don't like it because I agree that two sane adults should be able to realize that - whatever else the situation might be - recapturing the crazy serial killer (that it just took 3 people to take down) should be priority number 1. So I agree that it was primarily a poor writing choice because it really doesn't make to much sense😕
