Lysander is a great choice. If the clear parts will be as good as these from Anson kit, this ma by a fantastic looking plane. I am a Pole so Polish Sqdrn markings are the cherry on the cake.
Westland Lysander in 1:48 - yes please! I have always liked the gawky design of the Lysander and Airfix doing their thing on this aircraft is very welcome, I will definitely be adding this to the stash!! Thanks for the preview
Thanks Peter, I do like the Lysander, like you, I hope for a 1/48 Jaguar from Airfix sometime soon... 😁 The Sea King Junglie looks good and will be popular with folks to.
Peter, having spent almost all of my life on various RAF bases l can understand your wants list. But, neglected types? Beverly, Argosy, Hastings, Dove, Heron, Jetstream, HS jets......a new Skyvan, a Beaver, Caribou, Avro Arrow....so many!
Peter received this week the new Zoukeimoura Fw190 A4.....truly wonderful, and, the Border Fw190A8 multi kit with masks, photo etch, brass gun barrels and four decal options....truly superb
Like you i was dreading yet another Spitfire. As much as i think the Spit is without any question of doubt my favourite Aeroplane but kit wise they seem to be much of a likeness. The Lysander does come up a lot on all these polls including, Airfix own what would you like polls. I know because i also kept asking, along with the Scout/Wasp, Puma. As is the Sea King. Both of which i shall be getting at least one of each.A Falklands option clearly a no brainer. Jet wise i would love to see a new Jaguar or even a re-release of the 72 Jag
Thanks Peter! The Lizzie is a welcome addition, which will be a buy and immediately build for me. Think the only other 1/48 option (which Eduard has Profipacked) was limited run and knocking on a bit now (two things that normally do not mix well!) Arguably the "Junglie" Sea King in 1/48 would have been most peoples' first choice for the initial release but it is here now. The Airfix Sea King is a really nice model - good detail and it goes together well and although I bought the original one, and unusually for me actually finished it, I will get the Junglie too and I know I will enjoy building it just as much. Agree we desperately need the Jag in 1/48 - maybe this will be a surprise Telford announcement? Maybe this pre-SMW announcement is to fool people into thinking that this is it for Telford and then they "drop the bomb" at the show. We can but hope! 🙂 One continuous positive I will say about Airfix in recent years is the inclusion of Cartograf decals, even for the cheaper kits. They always perform magically for me with Micro Sol and Set. Some other companies (*cough* you know who you are!) would do well to emulate this. For my HAS-1 build I messed up (user error) one of the big Royal Navy decals and had to source a replacement so I went down the Xtradecal route and although they sat down well you could see pixelation in the text - so compared to the kit Cartograf decals the Xtradecals were visibly poorer. Keep that up, Airfix, your decals are great - in this case better than aftermarket! 👍 Enjoy Telford those that are attending - sounds like it will be back to top form again.
Lysander is a good subject but not as mainstream to make Airfix serious money in my opinion. I would definitely be getting it as I had built an Eduard Redbox many years ago..
Two good releases - although I will only be buying the Junglie. As you say - a wider appeal than the initial boxing. I look forward to the 1/48 Jag / Phantom announcement in January!
The Lysander is a good choice - there are different variants and colour schemes as well as several export customers. The pre-war colour scheme is not special ops, though - just the style of that period (as per the first Spitfires also).
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab The purpose built special ops version was the Mk.III (SCW) and had a fixed ladder to the rear cockpit. It was all over black
Interesting subject. There is a Canadian Spitfire pilot that has a channel, 'Dave Hadfield' with three videos on a silver Lysander, '416' worth a watch. Shows how good the view was for the pilot and how heigh the cockpit was to climb into from the ground.
Thanks for the update/reveal Peter. Luke warm from me but definitely ok with both. I can see myself buying the Lysander because it is sure to be a very nice kit but would probably sit unbuilt if I'm honest. The Sea king will surely sell more kits in this boxing than the last. I like the choice of the Lysander (one vote in favor from the States). I've been considering getting the 1/32 Matchbox/Revell kit from ebay, but I am currently making another old kit presentable, and I'm not sure I want to do it again anytime soon. I don't suppose Airfix is going to join this decade and provide seat harnesses and canopy masks. That would make the kit much more desirable to me (and why I buy the Profipack kits from Eduard).
Thanks Peter, a nice introduction to these welcome releases. The Lysander is certainly on my list as is the Sea King, the UNPROFOR scheme appeals to me. Cheers!
Hey Peter, I bet a bottle of wine that you thought to yourself...."that's an odd looking Jaguar!" 😳😲😉😆😂 I'm definitely getting a Lysander....or a couple! I've still to get a Sea King....
