    I've been here 15 years. The hottest summer I experienced it got to 49 degrees for a few days back in 2013. I used to put my pillow in the freezer for a couple of hours before going to bed. AND I didn't have AC back in those days. Utter nightmare!

    Other cons:
    - the petards during festas. These things are unbearable. It's like the Blitz. I dunno how old people don't have heart attacks cos you can feel the windows shake!
    - the size of the island; it can make you feel isolated and claustrophobic
    - lack of greenery/parks
    Other pros:
    - food portions at restaurants: very generous!
    - history
    - people speak English + Italian

      @@porucznikkundlewicz5218 If I properly understood what you meant, you are more than right. The Maltese people never really fought for the independence of their country, except simply following orders from their respective rulers.
      Unless we mention a few daring individuals who had a completely different vision from the rest of the population (which was always the vast part of the population).
      And in fact, those few individuals, were always seen as "traitors" from all the real traitors totally lacking from true morals and principles which were needed back then.
      And the above is said from a Maltese person.

    Perth in Western Australia sounds very similar regarding hot weather. We often get 88C-42C or sometimes higher.. during summer. Not much rain if any during summer. I’ve had a gut full of the heat. I can’t handle humidity so, I think if I go to Malta it will only be for a visit. My granny was Maltese.

    Where have you been shopping? Fresh strawberries, in Mellieha, where I live, are between 2 and 2.5 euro. Go to a small market. A lot of them are owned by farm families. I am able to eat things here that I gave up 10 or more years ago, when I lived in the States. Just bought broccoli and mushrooms yesterday. Like having diamonds and rubies, except they are edible. 40C may seem hot to someone who grew up in Britain, but it is normal for people like me. All a matter of what you're accustomed to. But I don't like the damp in winter.

    Where did you buy your strawberries from? If from supermarkets, then yes, they would be pricey, especially during off-season. But when they're in season you can find them for half that price at the farmer's market in Ta' Qali. They also sell plenty of locally grown produce for less than you'd find in a shop :)

    Many laws have been introduced so that people may stop throwing bulky refuse in fields or waysides. Fines can go as high as 500 euro. So in short Malta is not so dirty as it used to be. Well I have been to Rome and London and Ifound that both cities have skips full to capacity with litter ending up spilled to the ground!

    Please for someone who loves drinking water and having 3 baths a day, how safe is water from the tap? Or do you have residential borehole tanks to supply water during the crazy hot summers? Is their water drought there that limits use?

    • @tessamay3753
      @tessamay3753  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! It would completely depend on your nationality, but as with most expats you'd have a set time period (usually 2 weeks) before needing to claim your employment to the gov. But from experience it's much easier to have a job already lined up before moving 😊 saves a lot of stress! If that doesn't seem like a good option for you then might I suggest coming over for a small vacation to scope out the job scene and make face to face connections

    What’s a walkable neighborhood in Malta

    • @tessamay3753
      @tessamay3753  ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on your definition of walkable hahah. But the nicest areas to walk around are Sliema (it has a big promenade along the front as well as lots of shops/a shopping mall - but it means it's usually busy), Valletta is classed as a city so there's city toll for cars, which means it's quite nice to walk around there (again, can be busy). And really any smaller/seaside towns like Mellieha, St Pauls Bay. But those are just from personal experience, I don't really go to the south that much, but I'm sure there's lovely walkable neighborhoods there too.

      Hi Tinu 👋 I'm not sure what you mean, all counties have different entry polices depending on where you're from. Unfortunately as the UK has left the EU, it is increasingly harder than before so I would recommend doing some research before making a decision 😊

    Do you find Malta safe for women travelling on their own?

    • @tessamay3753
      @tessamay3753  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly it depends, it's the same as most places in Europe. There are certain areas where I personally feel more safe and can walk/get public transport alone in the evening. But there are certain areas that I would avoid... just a case of using common sense and making sure you take the right precautions 😊

      It really depends what career field you're looking in tbh. In the summer there are lots of hospitality jobs since it's tourist season, but the more 'stable' jobs that aren't seasonal you can find on LinkedIn quite easily 😊
