(Melanie here) My husband is Maltese and we have been to Malta twice ( last visit -October 2023). We really enjoy staying in Mellieha Bay (have done a hotel one time and an airbnb) which has a very nice beach area. We toured a bomb shelter in Mellieha that was a moving experience for my husband since his father would go into those during WW2. Also, I can definitely recommend - Mdina (interesting, peaceful walking around) and eat at Fontanella (worth the wait for the view and the food - pastizzis and cakes are fantastic among other things). Also we had a great tour of Valetta. Get pastizzis at Manuela (certified authentic). Ferry to Gozo is reliable and then use the hop on hop off bus on the island.

My earliest memory of travelling to another country is from a family holiday to Malta when I was 3, which proved to be pretty memorable in its own right due to to the fact that our ferry back to the mainland from Gozo on the last day was cancelled, which led to my first (and only) helicopter ride, since that was the only way to get to the airport in time for our flight home.

As Danes and now both 76, my wife and I have visited Malta 10 times during a few years, for up to 7 weeks. During the Maltese Independence Danish Unions became contacted and started a joint built of a Danish Vacation Center in Mellieha, which has lately been added to with areas on both sides. Today it is a fully Danish owned area with Danish Designed and, Maltese like buildings from chalk stone on a large area (And a private tunnel below the road, to Maltas finest sand beach!), and direct planes every week to Luqa. We have "Danish Calls" in the Loudspeakers, when we leave again. It is free to rent also for other Nationalities, if wanted, but mostly used by the Danes. We of course also have sight seeing during the vacations to major sites on Malta and Gozo. With Maltese based and living, Danish Guides.
By that, the still existing Disney-Set for "The Popeye Movie" became designed and built by the Danish Arkitekt and Professor, while also building The Center in Mellieha, and main Actor, Robin Williams lived in Mellieha during the filming. 😀

Malta has so many layers of history it is worthwhile taking some time to explore the island and discover other areas than the very popular ones.
In Valletta we boarded the Hop on Hop off bus and appreciated the opportunity to travel round and hear about the island - if it is still running I would recommend the tour.

Cool! This video got posted right when my wife and i were at Malta. Another don't from us would be: don't forget your sunscreen! The sun's UV intensity levels can get pretty high and especially when you're white skinned you burn easily. Takes only a little time in the sun to feel the sting already so do yourself that favor of sunscreen protection.
We visited Gozo island and i strongly agree to not pass that up. It's an easy ferry ride even with a rental car. We went to see the Citadel on Gozo which is really nice. But there are many nice spots and churches to visit on Gozo.
We had a great week on Malta and enjoyed the environment, architecture, food and the people's friendly service. I agree that traffic can be a thing. Not so much the driving on left side part but the rush of it. There will be honking if you slack or seem indecisive. And small motorcycles will just be passing you left and right at any given moment.
A thing i felt unsure of though was the level of construction going on. I mean in and of itself it's great. But i feel like they are going for luxurious boulevard style in some places that (in my humble opinion) could potentially diminish the cultural and historical identity of those parts of Malta. Nice spots already had those typical loud music tourist stands and restaurants with loud happy hours. I know it sounds like i'm turning into a grumpy old guy lol. I just hope they are not going to turn it into a second Ibiza. Because i think Malta has more to offer than that culturally.

Enjoyed your video. I visit Malta often can I also say, you don't have to drive. Public transport is very cheap and ultra reliable you can go from one end of the island to the other for less than 3 Euros . Then get the ferry to Gozo (a cheap alternative to the tourist boat trips). Also Mosta is lovely to visit especially the church and the unexploded bomb from World War 2. St Georges Bay has a lovely sandy beach and on the public transport route too. Im from the 🇬🇧 UK .

Be aware that buses can be unreliable in country areas, being infrequent and prone to cancellation or being full up. Also, they mostly stop running by around 10pm, so plan your evenings accordingly. The narrow roads and the heavy traffic also mean that Malta is dangerous for cycling: so much so that you seldom see anyone on a bike. Apart from that, Malta is a beautiful place.

I love Malta so much! I went last year and I'm going back later this year and I cannot wait.
Regarding the humidity, I didn't think it was all that bad in September. It was quite hot (30 C/90 F) but not so humid. I was quite comfortable in the shade. Now, it could very different in the summer for sure. And winter, apparently, it can feel kind of damp and chilly from the humidity but it never gets bitterly cold.
This was a good video for anyone who hasn't been to Malta yet because clearly he is enthusiastic about being there (something I relate to so well).

You don't mention the wonderful coastal walks and stunning scenery. You can get away from it all and not see another soul for miles

Factoid: you may notice a cross in the top left of Maltese national flag, which represents the George cross that was awarded to the tiny island nation by Britain for the courage of its people in resisting the massive barrage of the Nazis. Ps good job Wolter, all bases covered.

Kinnie is awful, one bottle is enough for 10. Maltese sausage is awesome. Try the pastry called a Wudy, frankfurter with cheese inside in their delicious pastry. Also deep fried ice cream is easy to find.

The ‘Dont’ is don’t go there after May and don’t rely on the public transport. Weather is great, sea is beautiful but boy it’s a bit third world 😬

It's not 3rd world at all. The public transportation just isn't all that reliable because there's so much traffic. That doesn't make a country 3rd world. They have all the typical "comforts" of any European country, except for great public transportation (it's still better than public transportation in most US cities).

What's with all the negativity - all the recent "DON'T" videos? You should stick with more positivity like your earlier videos. Even in this video, you talk about so much fun stuff to do, but I wonder how many people are turned off by the "don't do this" attitude. Nice video BTW with LOTS of things TO DO when traveling to Malta.
