What a wonderful race to follow. I sailed in 1975 from Burnham on Crouch, in England, to Victoria British Columbia, ( the easy way ). My boat was a 34 foot double ender built from Burmese teak in 1939 in Holland. Used an Aries vane, hand held direction finder, old Plath sextant, Zenith TransOceanic Radio, a good wrist watch and a Walker trailing log. No depth finder etc. Good Admiralty charts, tide table, Ocean Passages for the World, Reid's Almanac and of course Mary Bluits(SP) Celestial Navigation. Almost forgot the sine tables. That was it. No communications out from the boat and only radio contact coming in. Good old BBC time signal was received wherever we were. Although not an official race we did challenge a 35 foot Rebel on our run from Panama to Maui. We won the race on corrected time by five days. Total run for us was 44 days. So much fun. I really do understand the benefits of all the modern equipment but the journey is so very different when you are out of touch with the east of the world. Cheers, from the Crazy Canuck

It's a nice boat, but it's so different from the "approved" boats I'm not sure its fair to the entrants who bought compliant boats.
