Loving this video series, so interesting how different sailors have different approaches. Personally I'd probably get rid of mizzen as soon as I hit the southern ocean. But I don't think that's a problem I'll ever have! I think a bit of weight aft is probably a good thing. Surely if you have all the weight and 'push' of the boat at the front, you will be more likely to pitch pole. I like most of this guys thinking, I hope those boxes are VERY well secured though!
Looks like a sound boat and well thought out, not to sure about the ketchup rig, but as he mentions it's all down to money. Be intresting to know what clothing each skipper will be wearing ? Dry suites ? Musto ? Henry loyd ? Helly Hanson ? & many others
Being a ketch may help him. Smaller masts and sails than a sloop means your full sails are like their first reef so you've got more leeway in wind speed ranges and just cruising along while they're up at their mast putting reefs in and shaking them out. If it blows too hard, drop the main and you're still balanced with your headsail and mizzen up. I'd also like to see questions asked about their wet weather gear and the survival suits I'm sure they'll be wearing in the Southern Oceans.
This lady ask the same questions to all the contestants, its so "plastic" " "whats your edge" we;ll my edge is that iam so sharp, what about your edge baby!
This is probably the boat that I would be on rather than any other
More than the boats, it’s awesome to see how they improve, all that experience.
