I had the chance to see them for their first show after Randy got out of prison in the Czech Republic. I’ve seen them at least 15 times and that show is to only one I remember well. They fucked that place up
I've seen Lamb 4 times in concert. Every time was one of the best concerts I've been to. The last time I saw them they played Vigil. It was sublime.
When they played Vigil at the last concert I went to I lost my shit! Coolest concert ever!
Vigil is a great tune. They play3d it it the last 2 times I seen them out of the 4 total also.

Randy has a great voice. 🤘 He received a lot of his training from Melissa Cross, one if the greatest growl and scream teachers out there. She also coached Corey Taylor. Truly worth checking out.

You'd be amazed hearing some of the best metal growlers including Dez Fafara from Coal Chamber/Devildriver and Randy Blythe from Lamb of God. It's definitely a technique with fry screams and false chords and you have to do it in moderation and usually drink eat the right things to help keep the muscles in your neck healthy. Sometimes singers will go to aromatherapy, acupuncture or a massage therapist when they start to lose their voice or need to loosen the muscles. Some wild shit.
But if you talk to these guys, they sound like the biggest nerds, sometimes with a nasal voice. Randy def has a higher register to his voice when he talks normally unless he's doing a reading and sometimes the deeper side will come out. He's super talented, writes books, poetry, reads books, comics and plays dungeons and dragons.
The band is from Richmond ,VA and despite what people think in the dirty-dirty there are rednecks and southern boys in Virginia that represent the south which is where the Confederate flag comes in. They don't give a fck about the controversy but they are most certainly enlightened to the political atmosphere of our country. They're super supportive of the military and usually salute them at every show.

The band Lamb of God is from Richmond Virginia. Thats where the rebel flag stuff comes from. lol it is a little weird seeing that in England. As far as the other flags go, this band is very popular in all of the Scandinavian countries. They fit right in.

Randy Blythe the lead singer used to be a heavy drinker and substance abuser. Ever since the man got clean, he has become even better with his singing at his screaming. To give you an example it’s like James from Metallica just gets better with age, and their drummer in this video Chris Adler is no longer with the band, but their new drummer Art Cruz is a monster. I SUGGEST DITCH from their newest album Omens 🤘🏻
They are from Richmond, Virginia, and Randy is a very smart and intellectual individual. He also served time in jail. I believe in Europe, because at one of their shows, a young man was killed in the crowd, and Lamb of God was sued, and he was in prison for the death of the teenager , and I believe he was later acquitted, but he wrote a book if I’m not mistaken about that incident in about his life in general

Yeah they do put on an amazing show. Unfortunately I've only seen them once in '04 I think. It was just before Killadelphia came out. Even more unfortunate was I wish I could have seen them in the late 90s when they performing under the name Burn the Priest.
Singer's name is Randy Blythe. The ability to do the deep growls varies from performer to performer, I think, in terms of how much it's nature vs. nurture. My guess is Randy leans toward nature in that he was born to do this. If you were wanting to learn how to do that personally, vocal coach Melissa Cross and her DVD The Zen of Screaming would be a good start.

I’ve always loved LoG’s technical musicianship and the vocals have never bothered me for some reason with them. Randy has a solid voice. I’d say they’re groove metal than anything. Definitely check out more!

A lot of those that Growl/scream like that do vocal training for years to be able to do that for long stints without really hurting themselves and I think even then some still do blow out their vocal chords and need surgery to fix it. Might be worth it to collab with a vocal coach from on here or maybe a local one with a good reputation and is willing to do one of your interview sessions to explain a lot of the technical aspects of growls, screams, vocal fry (the gritty non-growl singing), etc. that you all aren't totally familiar with. They can also probably explain the TLC taken to rest their voices after all that growling/singing/screaming.

The drummer is chris Adler. He's no longer with them. He said he's gone as far as he can with them so he left. Plus he had an opportunity to work with megadeth on the dystopia album. Which is far better than the latest album in my opinion. I'm still digging through my 8400 photos and videos for that massive circle pit during redneck. I gave a wide birth because I had work the next day. I'm to old for the pit lol.
Adler got hurt in a motorcycle accident and they had to move on. He was doing shows with Megadeth at the time but it wasn't concurrent till after his rehab. I miss Chris, maybe one day they'll get back together but imo they still sound like LoG with Art Cruz. He had big shoes to fill.

@@KenBober it was kinda dirty how they did him which is probably why he felt that way, especially since they came up together but you never know. Mustaine still fighting throat cancer puts Megadeth's long term tours at a question mark at best plus them boys are getting old like Metallica. I still got hope for a reunion with the boys at some point in the future.

Good band🤘🏼an ex-gfs brother showed me their tour documentary where the lead singer got his ass handed to him by another band member because he was a douchbag when drunk. As an alcoholic that was liability for him lol it made me like these guys even more. I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan but I definitely will bang my head when I hear them.

Randy does not push any agenda of the sort. He used to be very angry and just was an a hole on stage sometimes, but since him being locked up in another country for manslaughter charges, he has this new found zest for life and is honestly one of the best performers on stage! You should check out his interviews as he is a very smart man and also very cool and down to earth. Some stuff he says I don't agree with, but his taste in music (and his music inclusivity) really shows that he isn't playing into the type of hate that some bands or scenes are into. There definitely can be this type of crap in the metal scene, but I feel we are pushing that crap out and more people are waking up to the fact that living your life like that is useless. I think many metal bands used to think like this and have since spoken out against their younger beliefs.
A lot of bands like Pantera, Skynard etc displayed it because at the time it was more popular and "cool" to be a rock/metal band from Seattle or LA (mainly due to the metal scene being more open there) but bands from the south kind of got shoved around and struggled to find solid ground due to the fact metal was looked at much differently down here compared to the west coast, personally I have nothing against the flag and I truly don't think these bands/musicians held a negative meaning behind displaying it (even Phil)

1) They're from Richmond, VA, hence the flags in the crowd.
2) Europeans take Confederate flags to shows more often than you think, because it's not part of their history and they aren't worried about offending anyone.
3) Randy Blythe once said he used to cough up blood after shows until he got vocal training from Melissa Cross. Yeah, there's a technique. TL;DR you need to generate all the force from your diaphragm, not your throat.

There is a famous vocal trainer that works with everyone from opera to death metal. Randy has worked with her to be able to scream from his diaphragm.

Its a real technique. Anyone can scream. Its from the diaphragm and then pinching the vocal cords to “fry” the vocal. Also gutteral growls and inhale screams. All technical ways to scream. Not a single screamer just SCREAMS, or else they wouldnt last a whole show. Also, a microphone does wonders 😉 most screams are not that loud, the mic and audio board take care of that as well as filters that distort the scream more.

I remember I counted 5 mosh pits all going off at once & then turned & shitted myself because i nearly got swept up on one, i got a couple of battle scars that day, was worth it plus i was younger then i dealt with it. 😊. Was a brillant set. 🤘 Chris adler was a beast on the drums bk then.

Lamb of God is from VA. That's why the Confederate flag was there. Someone either was from there, or knew about LoG's roots and wanted to show support. Much like when Iron Maiden tours and the fans fly the Union Jack.

Few things about this show/LoG in general.
You mentioned the Confederate flag, LoG used this years ago as they are from Virginia, Randy and the band are associated with it for two reasons, their love of bands such as Lynard Skynard who are also associated as well as being from Virginia, they see it as their flag, the military unit of Virginia. NOT the other bullshit.
This show happened in Donnington Park at Download, just outside Derby in the UK. One of the most legendary metal shows ever, it's revered for it's insane crowd and the crazy rendition of "Black Label". But the whole set is great, you should watch it all.
And finally, Chris Adler is a fucking unit. It looks easy, but listen to the accenting on the drums. Very difficult to play and he is insanely, insanely talented.

The heavy sigh is the basis for growling because when we sigh like that, we’re not utilizing our vocal cords to make the sound; we’re utilizing our false cords.
False cords are located near our vocal cords, but instead of making pitch and sound, they’re pretty much the door that opens and closes when you either decide to eat or breathe air, therefore making sure the right pathway is open so you don’t choke.
The essence of growling is that heavy sigh. However, growling is just a much more practiced, longer version of it, and it often involves pitch.
Try it now: either think about the chores you have to do later that you don’t want to do or let off some steam from a stressful event of your day, and sigh.
Notice how you’re relaxed when you do it.
Remember: don’t try to growl, and don’t force anything out. Just sigh like you’d normally sigh.
Now, do so again, holding it a little longer. Play with how it sounds as it comes out by moving your tongue or changing the shape of your throat. Just remember to stay relaxed and never force yourself. This will start off lighter, but will gain intensity on its own after much practice. Don’t try to take a shortcut to make the harsh sound you want by pushing. That sound will come, just give it time and plenty of practice.
It's for sure all technique. Alot of soft tissue control, posture and the right amount of air without overdoing it to preserve the voice is the best i can explain it without detail. Took me years of experimenting and another bit of time once I understood fully what it should feel like to properly use distortion. If you dig into it you could get there too. Takes time. Much love 🤘

Hey fellas check out "The Zen of Screaming" dvd by Melissa Cross. There is a technique on death core, metal core vocals. You fill the diaphragm with air, open the short ribs and use the extra tank of air in the belly like an accordion or bagpipe you will play off the extra air chamber. Then you do what's called the dump push down your ass as if you are taking a shit lol. Push down with your inards release air up then you scream using false chords they call it "screaming over the pencil" (put a pencil across mouth and envision screaming over the top of it. That gets you to use the false chords vs vocal chords.) The control of pitch will be made my your face cavity. Basically you let the demons out of you and just let them come out to play 😈. Give it hell and have a blast expressing yourself. It absolutely doesnt hurt your voice in anyway. That style of music is an amazing aggression release you will find most people that love this breed of music are super chilled out people due to the release of stress.😊. I myself am a vocalist like that as well i absolutely love it!!
There's no technic to sing that way. I'm in my mid 40's and have been able to sing that way since I was a teenager. I guess it's just a special talent you're born with.

You guys really need to react to any song by left to suffer.
There is a technique to screaming that doesn't hurt and isn't damaging. To make it brief, you're not actually screaming, you're instead using your airflow to manipulate existing overtones on your voice and then projecting it. The less pressure you exert on your throat, the better. To be clear, this is just in theory. I only just figured out the technique 3 months ago so while I can scream safely myself, I sound like trash. But that's what practice is for, and vocalists like Randy Blythe have put in many many hours of practice to get their voices to the level you hear here.
