60mg Vyvanse it has changed my life. Also be careful mentioning that these medications are addictive; in my understanding, addictive traits for ADHD are significantly reduced when on stimulants. This is because the medication directly treats the dopamine receptors and can minimize cravings. For example, since starting ADHD medication 5 years ago I have quit smoking cigarettes, rarely drink alcohol, and cut back my caffeine intake from several cups a day to one. Just food for thought since stimulants are highly stigmatized and can scare off many ADHD folks that would actually see massive benefits.

Thank you for saying this! This is so so so true. I growing up had such a problem with severe addictions and now finally getting diagnosed at the age of 30 I have no issues with addictive behavior and feel so great that my team of doctors are so supportive of my journey when they easily could of been closed off to even attempting to treat me given my past. I'm so greatful for the treatment I'm now getting.

Same here. I never had a dependency on any substances but I definitely had a bad relationship with food. Eating food generally creates a dopamine response and I've talked to others with ADHD about how we just overdo it without realizing because eating just feels so good. Since starting medication my appetite did decrease, and that is a mentioned side effect, but now I eat about as much as is recommended for girls my height (1400-1600 calories? I'm not sure, I just know I am able to listen to my body much better) and I tend not to crave high density processed food as much.

100% agree I used to have Psychosis and paranoid thoughts like "people thinking about me talking about me etc. Very odd behavior after getting off Adderall from 7-16. Antidepressants at 18-29. 31 now. I took way to much, but took about 20g of Gold caps (Psilocybin containing mushroom) I analyzed my entire life. The emotions that came out helped me understand behavior etc more. Wont ever need to do it again because I'm happy and contempt forever, but I wish more people did this to alter their perception of reality. Would help with healing much trauma

I was diagnosed with ADHD at 14 years old but my mom lied to me about it most of my life because she “doesn’t believe in mental health issues”. Now, 10 years later at age 24, I just found out that I’ve had ADHD this whole time and never knew. I’ve always wondered what’s “wrong” with me. Now I know. I fought hard to find these medical records. I finally have my first appointment to talk about getting on meds next week! I finally feel like I can begin living my life. I’m excited to find the right med for me.

Until now I’m 31 and i have an assessment booked for ADHD in a few weeks only to find that they found in my notes i have already been diagnosed. So now I’m going to get the help and medication iv always needed. It’s funny because even tho she always told me I’m depressed… i never thought i was.

The video of the distressed women representing an addict as you refer to addiction risk Is pretty misleading and stigmatising. Untreated ADHD is strongly associated w dangerous addictions alcohol etc and incr early death risk. That needs to be balanced. Addiction also far more likely with people misusing rather than using therapeutically.

      What is the difference?

    • @blackbuck4real
      @blackbuck4real 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

@NayeliR699 dependency is like with coffee/caffeine where two months in a person doesn't "feel" the effects or benefits as heavy or easily as the very 1st few months produced. Or just like exercise , our bodies adapt... our brain adapts, becoming almost tolerant of the effects yet
Addiction is Dependency turned to 19,000 causing a unrelenting urge to do more, more, more, and get more NO MATTER what it takes! With Abu $ e of the substance being habitual to the point of acting out illegally to obtain a "feeling" and stave withdrawal.
Same spectrum, 2 very opposite ends.

Be careful of straterra, my 8 year old suffered for two months of not being able to urinate, we took her to urologist and everyone thought we were crazy. The best way to explain what was happening was she couldn’t relax her muscles to be able to release the urine. It was more of a mental problem. We looked at side effects of all her meds and strattera was difficulty urinating, we stopped the medicine that day and by the next day she was able to pee again.

I was diagnosed with ADD (before it was generalized with ADHD) when I was in 3rd grade. My ADHD experience has been wild, especially since I didn’t know I had ADHD until my parents got me diagnosed. I started taking meds immediately, and I went from almost being held back and always getting in trouble because I would do impulsive things to getting decent grade (not even stellar, I grew to the advanced classes but I was like a solid B-C student so it’s not like it made me a genius)
I have been on concerta, stratera, vyvanse, and adderall at various stages.
First I will say: I have experienced depression and anxiety for almost my entire life. I believe part of it was due to having a narcissist as a father (who was also in the military) and I wasn’t able to keep up with his expectations due to my ADHD, which increases my rejection sensitivity dysphoria.
He did pass away when I was in 8th grade, but the depression persisted and I kept a experimenting with medication (with a doctor of course) and eventually found that vyvanse has worked best for me
Now the issue with vyvanse is that as soon as I turned 21, I was no longer a full time student and lost my military medical insurance and my Rx went from $40/month to $400/month and I was not able to stay on it. So I quit cold turkey because I had to and stayed off medications for a couple years. (Vyvanse is still in the patent phase and will not be available for generic until I think April of 2023)
I went through a ROUGH time being an unmedicated young adult with ADHD. I was extremely impulsive which helped me do things I am so thankful for but I also made a LOT of bad decisions. Around 23-24 I decided to get back on medication since I had insurance again and it’s been a trial and error experience since I don’t remember how some of the meds affected me when I was a child. Adderall works really well for me, but only if I have multiple things to do. If I’m just working a 40 hour/week job and no hobbies or other activities requiring my attention, I get extremely anxious and I hated it. So I tried concerta which worked really well at first since I am 26 going to real college (not trade school) for the first time. but after a while I was feeling hazy and started to get physical side affects like limb numbness and blurry vision. So we switched back to adderall, and it has been working really well since I have 4 classes and a part time job to split my attention with.
I would like to one day not be on medication, but I may not have that option right now. When I do get older I would like to try to either taper off or just take a small dose as I learn new skills to manage my adhd. Some of these skills have included meditating, eating better (which I am TERRIBLE at due to the lack of appetite), exercising, and taking vitamins. I hate how cliche it sounds but it’s honestly true that those things WILL help.

Started eating potassium rich foods which helped at first but, back on a bad sleep schedule again

I’ve been on Wellbutrin for months, and it’s done very little for me. I was diagnosed with adhd about 3 years ago and then began seeing a psychiatrist. I started off on Adderal xr, that didn’t help much. Then she switched me to Wellbutrin, I started at I think 150. That didn’t work, then I tried 300. And then the max dose of 450. Small change at best. I am “shopping” for a new psychiatrist now. I want to get in Vyvanse. Because it’s long lasting, many other adhd’ers have a great experience with it. And I think what I’m most excited about is that it will hopefully dramatically help with my binge eating, food craving issues. It’s the only drug approved to treat binge eating disorder and it’s one of the best adhd meds. Win, win!

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:28 🧠 *Types of ADHD Medication: Stimulants and Non-Stimulants*
    - ADHD medications can be categorized into two primary types: stimulants and non-stimulants.
    - Stimulants are the first-line treatment for ADHD, boosting brain chemicals like dopamine and norepinephrine to improve focus and decrease impulsivity.
    - Non-stimulant medications, like Straterra, offer alternatives for those who don't tolerate or benefit from stimulants.
01:49 💊 *Adderall and its Effects*
    - Adderall is a widely recognized stimulant medication for ADHD treatment, with effects lasting between 4 to 12 hours depending on the type.
    - Reviews from users indicate varying experiences with Adderall, from increased concentration to heightened anxiety.
    - The popularity and longevity of Adderall in the ADHD treatment landscape highlight its efficacy for a significant portion of users.
02:47 🚀 *Other Stimulant Medications: Dexedrine and Evekeo*
    - Dexedrine and Evekeo are two other prominent stimulant medications, both being amphetamines similar to Adderall.
    - Users' feedback on Dexedrine and Evekeo highlights individualized experiences, with some noticing improvements in focus while others mention side effects like slowed growth and changes in eyesight.
    - These medications offer alternative options for ADHD treatment, but it's essential to consider individual responses and potential side effects.
    03:42 🕰️ *Long-lasting Stimulant: Vyvanse*
    - Vyvanse stands out as a longer-lasting stimulant medication, with effects lasting up to 10 to 14 hours.
    - Users have shared experiences with Vyvanse, noting its effectiveness in managing ADHD symptoms but also mentioning challenges like altered behavior patterns and sleep disturbances.
    - The extended duration of Vyvanse provides a treatment option for those seeking longer coverage throughout their day.
    07:22 ⛔ *Non-Stimulant Option: Straterra*
    - Straterra is the only FDA-approved non-stimulant medication for ADHD treatment, targeting neurotransmitters without activating the brain's reward system.
    - Users' feedback indicates both positive effects, such as reduced anxiety and impulsivity, and negative side effects like altered taste perception and decreased appetite.
    - Straterra offers an alternative for those seeking non-stimulant ADHD treatment, but it's crucial to be aware of potential side effects and individual responses.

I’ve tried almost all these meds, and after the honeymoon period dust has settled, Dexedrine is the one for me, no question. Ive been on 20mg of Dexedrine ER for over a year. I like to say that it’s everything I want a stimulant to be (focus, task switching, time management improvements) with nothing I don’t want (insomnia, impatience, etc). Only major downside is higher blood pressure, which is already an issue for me. I do also take a blood pressure medication to balance that out.

I did not like the instants as I don’t want to have to keep up with taking them multiple times through out the day. I was diagnosed at 4 years old. I started taking Vyvanse for ADHD in February of 2020. It was the first time I had taken any meds for ADHD. I felt like a whole new person and I could focus so much better with it. It did, though, cause me to focus more than my mind could take, causing my mind to work faster than my body, but that wasn’t too much of a problem after I lowered my dosage. I stopped taking Vyvanse because of the mood changing side-effects, for they were BAD bad. I just started taking Adderall less than a week ago, and it does really help me focus a lot better. But.....the come down (rebound) makes me feel depressed, empty on the inside, discharged from reality, and sometimes even mad. I don’t know what to do, y’all. PLEASE HELP.

Stick with brand names over generics when it comes to ADHD drugs. I’d also at least consider giving Vyvanse another go at a lower dose to lessen the issues, that’s what I had to do to figure out it was beneficial for me. I also titrated/built up my most recent dosage over the course of 4 months (one dose fill per month) which gave me a good perception of what each amount had to offer. Generally speaking, since Vyvanse is solely a Dextroamphetamine rather than a combo of Amphetamines like Adderall, it has less intense/physical side effects, which I prefer.

The best thing you can do about it, is to stop taking drugs. I felt like you before, even worst, with depersonalization symptoms, but when I left drugs for ADHD(at first was difficult, my body needed detoxify all chemicals), then I started to feel better. You need to change your feed habits, do exercise, to clean your liver, do fastings, etc., to recover your mental and body health.

For me it's hard to say as of last year I finally got diagnosed with ADHD I was taking citalopram before I started taking Vyvanse so I'm not sure what it really was. Basically I started getting crazy panic attacks, small almost stroke things and physical changes too purple lips, fever, dilated pupils, eye droop, pissing forever lol and confusion. My experience with Vyvanse was very interesting but I also consumed a lot of coffee so hahaha. I did not abuse the meds I was on 40mg the last time I took it I felt high not a happy one like a I thought I was going to die for several hours very uncomfortable and not fun. I haven't taken Vyvanse since that day. Currently on day 3 of Dexedrine so I'll see what happens could just be me but man I think the Vyvanse gave me the issues or the combo with Citalopram or I have something else wrong that I don't know lol. Basically if it feels right do it be smart don't consume a lot of caffeine I think that doesn't help with side effects/ anxiety and make sure to sleep and eat and lots of water.

We decided to move over to Concerta and titrated up to 27mg- both the crash and nausea are nonexistent now... but I still get the therapeutic benefits. Before Focalin (like 20 years ago) I was on Strattera it helped at first, but my mood became an absolute mess after about a year... so my parents discontinued it. Hearing about Jane or John responded to one drug - don't see how that helps me any more than hearing an overarching statement that different people can have different responses. I think it would have been more helpful to learn more about how/why those drugs impact the brain's biochemistry, the distribution of those meds about various populations, their efficacy rates, etc.

im not diagnosed with adhd yet because im an addict so my parents wouldnt trust me with it (smart move tbh) but therapists always mention that i could likely have adhd. my experiance with adhd stims has always been a love/hate thing. i would always get miserable hangovers from concerta xr, yeah i was taking to much but even at normal doses the crash was equaly as shitty and almost slipped into phychosis. as of recent ive been using focalin IR and at first it seemed just as bad as concerta but overtime i noticed the hangovers get more bearable and you just get used to it. so if you get scared off after using a adhd med once because of the after effects in many cases it seems to grow on you. theres also other medications that coule work better for you, in my experiance adderall seems to have no noticable hangover afterwards and seems to be the cleanest experiance for me.

      *Update:*
I stopped aderall shortly after my comment! I’m on a non-stimulant now, Straterra, and it’s going well despite taking a while to kick in. Personally, they don’t affect me as strongly as stimulants do, however now that I’ve been taking it consistently enough to have it work, it’s efficient.
      *About Straterra:*
It levels my energy throughout the day which makes me more reliable for motivation and working once I get in the zone, and I don’t have unpredictable energy levels anymore! That being said, it does not give me, personally, the increase in drive and alertness and “getting up-ness” that stimulants do- it just makes it possible to start up those things myself. since I can’t take those this is great as an alternative to nothing at all, despite a stab in my sex drive too.
      *About Aderall-XR:*
specifically, for me, those side effects were NOT WORTH IT. And I’d need to constantly increase my dose as my body got used to the drug very quickly and it’s stopped working, despite incredible side effects. Increasing those side effects were not an option, so that medication isn’t effective for me on its own.
      *Combination Doses:*
I had a couple days of mixing 5mg aderalll (I was prescribed 10mg initially, and would have increased if I didn’t stop taking it) on top of my straterra which was noticeably more helpful than straterra on its own, but the dose was negligible (I can’t up it either bc of said side effects.) so it wasn’t as intensely helpful as a proper dose of Aderall, but it was enough to get me working effectively enough during a particularly intensely difficult day.
      *Some hope for you!:*
through all of this, I’ve come to be more patient in my adventures in finding the right medication. It will come, still on straterra which isn’t sufficient on its own, but there’s so many options to explore and many ADHDers can’t afford to be on anything at all and have managed to get their life in order still!! So there is lots of hope and room for our brains!!!
Best of luck to you dude!! And sending you patience XD

In Germany, at least in some places, we are so far behind. Especially in everything psyschology/neurodiversity-related. Especially in mid-rural areas (not the big cities) ADHD is still only recognized as "zappelphilipp-syndrom", and "only children have it, adults grow out of it". And best you can get easily is Ritalin. And many psychologists only see "depression", which is just a minor comorbodity of my ADHD. And they treat you only for "depression". Antidepressant, see ya once in half a year. That's it. Our health care system is so damn much symptoms-oriented (and there is economically an interest in Germany from the lobbies that once you have something, you "subscribe" to it.) And while we do get appointments with doctors (and "health care") it's never structurally enough to work on the cause and improve the cause. Germany's health care system is fine, when you have chronic boomer diseases (like diabetes 2) and you get your stuff for it, - like my parents do. But no one is actually improving. Or cares.
Another story: I went to four eye health doctors (opthomatologists), because of chronic dry eyes and blepharitis. No one cared. "Just use drops occasionally, you have to live with it." And then I called a doc from Frankfurt (so I decided to ditch the rural areas), and at least he [ (*) see footnote ] was able to explain why no one cared. Because it is a structural problem in our health care system, how they can get back costs from the insurance. So when an eye doc tries do actually do something against my blepharitis, it costs them, also a lot of time to diagnose and they don't get it back effectively. They make money effectively with older people, who get cataract surgeries and/or glaucoma treatments. But no one cares about a 30-something who is close to losing his job because of chronic blepharitis and sicca / dry eyes syndrome. (in fact: just browsing reddit was better than opthomatologists in Germany!) [ (**) read here for what helped me in the end! ]
So haha, this was more of a rant! And more of an analogy about other medical fields. But I feel the same about psychology docs. I actually don't feel really taken seriously or safe by docs in Germany. It is always so much hit or miss. And it takes ages to find a professional doc, who understands your (niche) issue. **] Ironically, in the end, I just switched my rural/local eye doc once again, for the once-per-year check-up and he said I should try mixing 0,4% hyaluron drops (hylogel, but hylogel only has 0,2%, so I went with Ocutears+ from Santem or Santen) with the expensive "EvoTears Omega" (16 Euros to up to 23 Euros per 3ml!). So I drop the 0,4% in my eye, and then right after it I drop EvoTears Omega into it. It takes some time to get it right. Two different drops in each eye. (and for the drops staying in there). But like crazy. Like 8times to 10times per day! I also took daily Omega-3 fish oil supplements (Omega-3 1000 with high EPA and DHA). Around AFTER three months I noticed a major difference. I'm only on the hylo/ocutears drops now, like twice a day. And I have money for food again! :D And my blepharitis is OFFICIALLY GONE or so low that it can't be diagnosed right now. But I had it diagnosed for like 2 years.

@@butterflykisses1222 Focalin severely increased my anxiety, although I was taking anxiety medication; so I stopped taking Focalin quickly.
If I miss a day taking Adderall I do not overeat at all, but when I missed a day of taking Vyvanse, I was ravenous. Once I stopped taking Vyvanse altogether, I gained so much weight, it was insane. My mood swings were really bad too if I missed a day of Vyvanse, so I had to take it consistently. I did build a tolerance to Vyvanse as well.
Although my body reacted poorly with Focalin, it may work for you, but trying Adderall, if you’re able to find it, may be a good place to start if that’s what your doc recommends. I did the same thing, called all over the place but I just waited for my pharmacy to get it in stock. I struggled for awhile but it was worth it in the end. I don’t recommend this but this is just what I did because I refused to take Focalin. Hopefully this helped! 😊
