Excellent breakdown. I was bareknuckle kickboxing ... I know stupid fighting with rules, but there are no schools teaching real JKD here in Texas, U.S. Anyway, I felt like my low side kick was telegraphed, so I switched to a 45° angle low side kick to knee. It worked, but I see how not to telegraph the side kick, because of your explanation. Great job on the videos. Some people are just lost and can't be helped.
Actually, I am pretty sure this is the only channel that talks about the concept and core principles of JKD. As far as I am concerned, JKD is a concept-based martial art. Regardless of one's style and way, he can apply this concept to his martial art and get benefits. 😊 Kudos to your job sir! 🙏
Hi again...as you can probably tell I’m becoming more of a fan of your channel. Was listening to Tim Tackett explain the same things regarding telegraphing a punch. He suggested: hip before hand when stationary and vice versa when moving with the straight lead. Do you share this theory or is your approach different? Just want to be clear on this point. Thanks
Thanks for clearing that up....appreciate your speedy reply. Do you have an online course. or would that be sifu Tommy’s distance learning course be the way to go? You guys exemplify exactly how I see JKD in my mind when reading books on it...so I’d like to learn more!
Good demo and description, thanks. Audio is working well. How do you deal with a typical fighter style where they bop up and down while standing? Wouldn’t this mask the telegraph you demonstrated where fighter moves up right before a strike?
Thanks. Yes, but this would be typically sport fighting, where you move around in the stance before you actually attack. In the streets we don't want to telegraph before attacking, there is also typically no moving around before the fight starts. It always starts in a natural position, where you dont want to show youre opponent, that you are ready.
Also, you can move up and down during the fight like in spor fight for distraction of feint, but when you attack, its always wise not to telegraph, what the opponent would actually expect from you, so there is the benefit there as well...
@@ThomasMarxJKD I am going to implement some of your jkd principles, I think there logic to this. It makes sense to me. Have you used this your self in real life ? How effective is the eye jab? I’ve started to train it but I am using clothes pegs from the garden dangling off a hangar and I use my spear hand as accuracy.
Thomas are you feeling alright? You seem bit not your self at the end of the video. You seem bit off some how. Just kinda noticed👍🏻👍🏻 good video all the best
Great video and a good demonstration please helpe me sir i live in algeria and i want to learn jkd from sifu Tommy carruthers and i don't know how to contact him .
Hip comes the last. That reduces telegraphing and increases the reach. A lot of slow practice is required to do it so. Speed comes with time as the co-ordination increases.

Cheers... Hip first at close quarter techniques like hooks. Hip last when straight punching. Those are the mechanics.

What’s your view on isometrics tension exercises?
Bruce used it... very beneficial...
@@ThomasMarxJKD 👌🏻 will keep at all.
How do I finger jab first and turn my hip after? How do I know that I am doing the correct way

Do you think sports fighting like mma and Muay Thai have a carry over to self defense?
What flaws do you see in them?
Thats not covered in their training. In self defence you dont act like in the ring.
@@ThomasMarxJKD agree. It’s different ball game.
