Can you do more video on Bruce’s dirty grappling, and wrestling for JKDs? Many people falsely assumed that Bruce didn’t grapple or wrestle at all. Even Joe Rogan falsely claimed Bruce didn’t do any grappling and got balled up by Gene LeBell, which is another proven BIG lie.. Totally false they and never read the Tao of JKD… Bruce mixed in dirty grappling…. Like you said before, you don’t need BJJ. Bruce studies Judo and American Folkstyle wrestling and maybe even catch wrestling like he did boxing.. He just made it simple and dirty for the streets.. I saw you do one video where you bent down and did the punch to the groin before a single or double leg like Bruce did the Tao of JKD book drawings. I’d like to see more videos from you on that. I’m sure the BJJ guys would lose their minds…. lol.
@@nmr20067 grappling drawings in the tao are fighting choreography from his movies, they are exactly the same. They should have never end up in that book in the first place. That book was made years after Bruce died. He wasn't involved.
@@ThomasMarxJKD I don’t know about all of that…. Maybe some of that was clearly self-defense he had learned and he put the dirty grappling into it. Like the punch to the groin for a leg takedown and attack the eyes.. Bruce never attacked eyes in his movies.. And there is proof he did study grappling. He talked about the 4 ways of distances in fighting. I know trapping was one and you don’t like it and that fine. Maybe he did drop trapping because of some of the unrealistic parts of it.. But he never threw out and disregarded grappling all together. That is 100% not true. But I see what you are saying that book was released after his death and others were involved…. But I don’t believe all that grappling he drew up was for his movie choreograph scenes, at least not all of it. Maybe some of it was put in. But he specifically showed the mechanics of leg takedowns from folkstlye wrestling Judo takedowns then he added how he would mix in the dirty stuff.. Grappling is important because sometimes you can be forced into a grappling situation whether you want to be or not. It’s easy to say I’ll never let someone grapple or wrestle me. Okay. That’s assuming you always know when you’re going to be attacked from the front, side, or back. Many streets attacks are surprised attacks. And notice I said grappling, NOT BJJ. Even though BJJ was alive in well in Brazil during Bruce’s life.. America just didn’t know about it yet (until 1993), and I’m not that they needed to. Because BJJ, like JKD did a lot that they took from other arts and put it together and modified disciplines and called it their system of jiu-jitsu that they learned from the Japanese.. I’m not saying this is right or wrong, but that’s what it was. The Gracie more less did a very similar thing, only with grappling. Carlos and Helio Gracie did…. What the Gracie did was put together what they learned from other Martial Arts and combined in, and they threw out what they felt was useless from traditional judo and jujutsu…
@nmr20067 It’s not that Bruce maybe stopped practicing trapping, he got rid of it all together by 1970 and there is a lot of proof to back that up. With grappling, it would make the most sense to strike instead of trying to grapple back since the opponent is already some steps ahead and likely has a better understanding of grappling. With grappling you can’t protect your body which is now open to strikes especially the groin, eyes and feet/shins.
@@SuperMaryu767 I’m not saying you have to be a grappler in the streets or do BJJ. I actually think 1 to 2 years of American Folkstyle wrestling is enough and maybe even better than BJJ. What I did say it is really easy for someone to say I’m a stand up fighter and I will never grapple or allow someone to grapple me…. Yeah, okay. The reality of the streets is that it won’t always be your choice, especially if you were surprised attacked, which happens everyday in the “street.” Many street attacks are a surprise... just Google or TH-cam unprovoked attacks in America, Europe and Latin America. I hear you not on initiating the grappling yourself by way of the BJJ clinch to the ground or double leg etc... Okay, fine. My thing is Bruce still knew, practiced and understood grappling. You have to. Do you know how many boxers will say I’ll never let somebody grab me. Boxer Devin Haney said he’ll never let 6’5 250 Bradley Martin grab him in a street fight fight. He’s only 5’7 walks around at 150-160. Two other boxers Eyan Garcia and Terrence Crawford said that’s BS… It’s easy to say, I’ll knock you out or put you down before you do it? Yeah, that’s assuming your attacker is an untrained person you see standing right in front of you.. and even untrained people can attack you suddenly from the back or side in the street.. I’ve seen people get headlock from behind and didn’t even see the person. I’m saying you at least better know how to defend at least have a rudimentary knowledge of grappling and BJJ, especially today. Again, does that mean you have to initiate it? No. Of course not. But the rise in popularity of MMA on every Saturday night is in our culture now and has people who are unskilled emulating the moves... And a poorly implemented headlock or choke is worse from an untrained street person.. They’ll put you away by accident by holding the choke too long… Plenty of video online showing in America and Brazil. Today, you better grappling and how to counter it. I know Bruce would agree…
@@nmr20067 Actually bruce have talked about grappling and countering by saying this: "The best fighter is not a boxer, a karate or a judo man. The best fighter is someone who can adapt on any style. He kicks too good for a boxer, throws too good for a karate man and punches too good for a judo man." He understood that you don’t copy the other person since they might know the style then you do.
