Very good practical info here but, the reality is to deal with these sorts of situations you have to contemplate carrying a concealed weapon yourself as an equaliser. A 3" lock knife, a thick buckelled heavy leather belt, a stainless steel pen, kubatan key chain, telescopic nunchakas, telescopic baton, etc, etc. When a knife assailent suddenly realises that you are also armed and look like you know what you're doing it will at least cause doubt in his Intensions. You cannot always run away due to the environmental situation. Keep up the good work your channel is excellent.
@@robertvondarth1730 Agreed, hands down on empty hands skills most definitely, but I'm training with cane/Jo as well so I have added reach, distance, and most importantly, safety.
Very good, especially your claim "treat an attacker like he has a weapon" because you never know and in most knife attacks the victims realized that they get attacked by a knife is afterwards when they are bleeding! You a the first one who make a video about knife defence who acknowledge this.
Fantasy is beautiful, reality is cruel. The Tao in Jeet Kune Do is to teach us how to face reality and how to protect ourselves in short, medium and long distances. Am I right sifu thomas?

One thing is sure - if I saw a knife, first I would shit my pants! Great lesson and Very realistic approach! Do you plan to put some more 'stuff' on Parteon soon?
@@ThomasMarxJKD I will join. If this is your plan then I advise you to put some videos there already and mention Patreon in your youtube videos, the people will follow, hopefully.
And this is the very reason I threw out all my traditional Hapkido and Kickboxing techniques to try and start over. My answer to the knife is a walking cane or JO staff to start. Can you do a video on how you would use JKD to properly use a Jo or walking cane against a knife or even in general? I have some ideas here but would love your input on the matter.
We dont do weapons in ojkd. its empty hand combat. You dont carry stick around anyway in western civilization... And if someone attack you suddenly, you dont have any time to take your weapon out anyway. People dont warn you, and if yes, side kick...however, if you would use weapons, you would apply the same principles like with no weapons.
@@walterevans2118 Yeah, I disagree to a point....having now trained in the Jo as a weapon and an extension....it has movements that don't crossover to empty hands so well because of the twirls, spin, and hand positioning. In some things....yes, but not overall

I suggest everyone ask a trauma surgeon how dangerous knives are because ONE puncture wound in the wrong place and "game over, man".
