  • I forgot to mention this lens's price: €350 / £319 (approx. $350 US).
    Find it here (Amazon affiliate link) (Be sure to get the right lens for your camera system):
    geni.us/Samyan...
    I also forgot to say "thank you" to Samyang for providing a sample of this lens for testing - although, as usual, this is a totally independent review.
    Here's something I haven't seen before: an 85mm lens just for APS-C cameras. It's clearly a intended as a classic portrait lens - let's see how it performs. It will be available for Sony E, Fuji X, Canon EOS M and Micro 4/3 mounts. By the way, this review is not sponsored by Samyang or Marumi or anyone else! I just love this lens, hehe (even though it's not perfect).

    It would be interesting to see this same lens on different platforms aka Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax to see how it performs depending what camera you have. I own the Rokinon 10mm F/2.8 and I'm very tempted to get this lens, but the Wife would kill me unless I can say it's to take pictures of her work, it would probably make a really good lens for taking pictures of painting.

      Now I don't have the same lens per say, however, I do have a Samyang 35mm on a canon ef and it's pretty similar in performance. Samyang must have heard the complaints about the focus ring because its less "slimy" (if I can use it that way) and is pretty form on rotation, but not difficult, so I'm feeling like I'm nailing more shots.

      @dasaauto2024 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      luka zupie I don’t know what principles of optics design governs max apertures at given focal lengths, but on FF it’s similar. Sigma’s FF FoV rough equivalent, the 135mm Art, has a max aperture of f/1.8 instead of 1.4 like the rest. On the very wide end it’s similar. The 14mm Art has a max aperture if f/1.8 instead to f/1.4 (though f/1.8 at 14mm for FF is incredible).
      As you probably know, Samyang’s CS lenses are: 12mm and 16mm at f/2. Then it drops to f/1.4 at 21mm and further to f/1.2 for 35mm and 50mm. And then back to f/1.8 for 85mm.

    • @lukazupie7220
      @lukazupie7220 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dasa Auto well 85mm 1.4 for apsc would be smaller than 1.4 for FF, right? Probably not enough smaller to make it.
      Btw mitakon 135mm is f1.4 and there is another lens from 60s 135mm 1.5, i think soligor or something like that.
      Just as interesting fact..
      I understand what you are saying, yes ofc it is easiest to make large F around 50mm.
      Although Voigtlander for m43 is interesting too, whole series of 0,95 even 10mm.
      So i guess smaller the sensor, easier it is to make fast wide-angle but not telephoto.

      @@christopherfrost Hi Christopher, thanks for your reply. I am a fan of yours.
      Strangely, when I went to a shop in Australia to buy this lens, they asked me to buy the adapter first! I returned without buying because i didn't want to put on an adapter to my M50.

    Great for fuji system...almost all fuji lenses are overpriced for an apsc lens.

      Yeah, it's a shame that 56mm f1.2 still costs 1000 usd. Price isn't going down at all

      I got a mint 56 1.2 for 750. You have to wait for fuji deals. They drop their prices several times throughout the year, and if you're lucky enough you can get ebay coupons at the same time as the fuji sale. But really, the fuji deals drive the used prices down as well. So that's when I've bought most of my fuji lenses for hundreds less

      @Memeorandum of Understanding the dof is equivalent...but f1.2 still faster than a f1.8.
