      @@nateballfr it one thing playing the drums. It's another thing entirely to be any good, let alone master the drums. It takes thousands of hours of practice. The kind of obsession and dedication needed is just insane but that goes for almost any instrument and they all have their difficulties.

      I agree. Super fat at low and mid tunings. Too bad most people crank 'em up. Wanting that Stuart Copeland sound. Not a bad sound mind you. But it's just that these are soooooo versatile.

      I went through a faze where I had to have a picalo. I had the pearl, flat black steel version. Sweet drum. They were super popular at the time. I had mine for about a year. Then I sold it.

    • @leeschmitz993
      @leeschmitz993 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@frankspikes4867 I've had my Pearl flat black piccolo for ~15 years, and I agree with everything said here. It's definitely a lot more versatile than snares twice as deep. I still bring it out from time to time. Right now, I'm using it with my Country/Rockabilly band in order to get that fast Nitty Gritty Dirt Band snare sound.

    This is what I decided on as my next snare.
    Love the snappy "pop" of this, mixed with the slight bottom end of maple. A great mix of both.
    Getting one this weekend, as this is the sound I've been seeking for our old school prog metal band.
    (also curious to see how this'd sound with a Big Fat Snare Drum on it).

    If I ever get an acoustic drum set (I have an Alesis Nitro Mesh 8 Piece) THIS is the type of snare I want. It is good for like any type of music, and I LOVE the high pitched snare sound. I was also at Sam Ash last month and was playing a tama rock kit with a double bass and a black version similar to this snare was on that kit. WOW it had a lot of pop and pitch. I loved it. Anyways, I really like this snare.

      It totally depends on what you're going after. I own this snare in black and it's fantastic but it does not replace my Sonor 14x5 1/2" snare by any means.
      My favorite style of music to play with this snare is funk but you have to think of other styles. For example, one of the biggest selling bands in history AC/DC would sound horrible with a piccolo snare in their music.

    In my school they have this old Ludwig piccolo and it was at a medium tuning with stock heads... so, I put a controlled sound x on it, tightened the snares, made the snare side higher and tuned the son of bitch high and it's like a gun shot... its beautiful, the overtones are terrible though... moon gels do wonders to its sound

      Their range is limited in comparison to a 14x5.5 or 14x6.5. You won't be able to get the same full sound that you would get with a deeper drum. This drum really does best in mid to high tuning. Thanks!
