- As you probably know by now I am a huge fan and lover of TAMA drums. I found this snare while randomly surfing around Facebook Marketplace. Just so happens that the guy selling this drum is a regular at the Carolina Opry where I perform nightly! The deal was made! This drum is so versatile. You can use it for any application or genre of music! I found a diamond in the rough for sure!

The "Give it Away" sound!!!!❤🥁
Yeah man! Pretty impressive drum isn’t it!?
I was thinking "Two Princes."
Sounds great!
@@Kev98TA Brady snare!!!
It is in Tama 1994 drum catalog...it is model number PM343 ... 3-1/4x14.There is a picture of the two available brass snares that year. It is to the left of the PM316 brass snare 6 1/2x14 in the picture. The lugs in the description are just called 'piccolo lugs'. You can almost all Tamas catalog pdf files online under Tama drum catalog archives pages from the 1970-today
That’s awesome! I went through as many as I possibly could through their archive website and I was having the hardest time trying to find the thing. I’ll go back and take a look at it. Awesome find thanks!
Sounds great with all turnings, personally I'd have it cranked high. One of my favorite snare sounds!
Agreed! Great drum all around!
how crazy when i saw this video on my feed. i have this drum since i was in college in the 90s. i traded a buddy my pearl free floating piccolo for it b/c i really liked the way it sounded on the lower end and he wanted a funkier sounding drum. this tama sounds great all around. i used it for heavy songs by tuning it lower, but it still cuts through b/c of the piccolo depth. and i could always tighten it back up if i was asked to play funk grooves. still use it today.
I was actually surprised on how well it done on all ranges of tuning 🥁
Yes I was kind of surprised myself!!
I have the Birch version. It's one of my go to snares. Now I'll have to be on the lookout for the brass.
It’s a real treat! I was definitely impressed!
Yeah neil peart from rush used this same piccolo on a song called virtuality. He only used it in this one spot in rush’s entire 40 year career lol but it always stood out to me. What a great sound.
Ah yes one of the greats! Sometimes that “sound” only calls for one small part, but necessary and effective!! Side note: I did a series of videos restoring an R30 kit. A local guy has number 23 and nearly ruined it. I brought it back to life! I encourage you to take a look at them! Awesome kit to say the least!
@@BrianDaggett Have you seen this? You can hear that tasty piccolo here. This was when he was still using tama's

That Spin Doctors "Two Princes" "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" sound
Yeah dude
Wasn’t that made with a sleishman though?
this snare has approved by metal and punk community for long time
Awesome!
I have the 14 and 13 with the oval badges, modified with different lugs. The original lugs are notorious for twisting. Be careful if using a bag for transport as the strainer will actually dent the shell if hit from the side.
Got the email and love the reconditioning you did to those two! They look fabulous!
Didn't blow me away but it sounds good
Just bump in to this snare: Tama piccolo 14x3,25 brass snare drum.
Powermetal series early 90' (serial 010660) Buy it or leave it?
Hi Brian, im doing a trade to get one of these. Thanks for the video it influenced my decision! :) There is an issue with the lugs on this one though, three are twisted and apparently have issues with the screw threads. im wondering if there are modern lugs I can replace on this drum. If you or anyone knows please reply. It seems a fairly common design issue on these drums...
@@nickbirkby2521 that’s awesome!!! There’s a simple fix to that problem. It could be a little tedious, but you can replace the insert inside of the lug. That’s the part the screw actually screws into. And replace the bad screws as well. I’m excited for you! Thanks for checking out the video!
@@BrianDaggett Thanks!
I got a 13x3“ remo piccolo but this sounds so much better💦🤤🍻
Damn 🔥
Still mad that I sold my Tama Rosewood piccolo with those same lugs
Tuned high sounds just like the Pearl Jam 10 album!
It’s a killer drum!
@@BrianDaggett I have the brass 13” Pearl and it sounds very similar
That’s some Jim Morrison level reverb
What can I say?? I like it wet 🤣🤣
Would you happen to have a sample pack of this snare? That mid/high and high is exactly what I have been looking for. I would be willing to pay a reasonable price for your time.
I’ve never done that before but I’m sure I could. My email is Rasbdaggs@gmail.com shoot me an email of exactly what you are looking for and I’d be happy to send over some waves.
Like the yamaha SD493
Yes very similar
Som top
Doesn’t sound that good in lower tunings, but excels at the high.
Yeah it could have also been that Big Fat Snare dampener I put on it. Those things are only good to a certain degree.
Im disappointed how you pronounce tama, its tom-uh😊
Toe-may-toe Tu-ma-toe!!! TAM-UH TOM-UH 🤣🤣🤣🤣All good my friend!! Thanks for checking out the video! I got a new one on the way!!
💤😴
