    These are gems. I have the steel version and it's a rocket. Folks, add a Piccolo Snare to your collection.

    I used to have the steel one. I loved it! Wish I'd never sold it. Such a fun snare, and more versatile than you'd think.

    Very nice playing in this video. It’s so much more helpful watching comparison vids when the drummer is good.

    All great sounding, but to my ears the maple had extra magic. Good playing as well.

    They all sounded very similar to me. I liked the tuning slightly less than the high.

    Great and very useful, thanks. I've had one for 20 years and now I am trying to reuse it for small clubs live but not only, even for making it hybrid by Roland TM-2. Any suggestion? For example, which is the best head for it? Remo Ambassador? Evans G1? G2? Evans genera? (I don't want to use mesh heads for hybrid playing) Many thanks.

    All 3 are great drums. I happen to prefer the wood sound.

    Question - are you only changing the tuning on the batter head or are you also re-tuning the reso? If the reso is remaining at a constant tune, what range do you have it tuned to? Thank you!

    Has anyone noticed that the lugs are positioned closer to the batter than the reso? I’ve got an old one and thought it was a fault but it seems to be the design

    • @cosmokramer1213
      @cosmokramer1213 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that's because of the snare side head needing more stretch room so the hoops are equal distance once tuned up?

    These drums sound great. What’s does depth in a drum even do?! These are little 3inchers and sound just like big 6.5 so why bother with a big one? More shit to carry round right?

    • @LeakyJAZZ

      its a bit nebulous, but obviously it affects the time it takes for the pressure of impact to travel from one head to the other, and back. and that seems to affect the length of the funamental pitch (not the ring, its harder to hear on a snare)

    • @johncollins5552
      @johncollins5552 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      More instant response with the shallow shells from the snare wires I feel, it lends itself to a tighter, sharper sounding snare that doesn't sound as good at low tunings as a deeper shell does in general.

      I had the steel one of these, and it was fairly versatile, but if you tuned it too low, it would make awful squealing noises. Bring it up to medium low, and it would get this loud, compressed kinda sound that was really fun to use.
      Aside from that, they sound fantastic, and they project. I do get significantly more low end from my regular 5" Acrolite, but you could certainly play any kind of music on them.

    My favorite is the brass one. Bright but not edgy. Funky. Perfect, if you're not Hard Rock. That is my Gretsch USA Bronze 14 x 6 1/2

    @0:00 very high? nah not even close, as someone who got their start in what is now called gospel chops, what ya have for what ya called very high would be considered -1 lower than lower pitch and very high would be way up there higher than what u have for what ya called very high. :P
