I was going to ask but then you mentioned Mounce so I’m thinking John Schwandt's is a good grammar to go through after Mounce.
I recently received a Greek grammar by Blass and DeBrunner, edited by Robert W. Funk. It appears like an advanced textbook. There are no exercises in it. What can you tell me about it?

As I am beginning to read the NT regularly, I find that accents are a very important part of understanding the language. The experience I had with my beginning courses; it was not sufficiently taught. So, I am glad to hear a review of a book with this kind of emphasis.

This grammar gives superior presentations of most aspects of Biblical Greek grammar and syntax, such as 3rd declensions, athematic verbs, infinitive constructions, reflexive pronouns, subjunctive, etc. It's presentation of participles is a bit understated (it should cover more than 1 chapter). The vocabulary is a bit more robust than most first-year grammars, which I prefer. I also think English to Greek is quite important, but I would have scaled it back a little bit so that there could have been more basic morphology exercises.
In terms of drawbacks, the real New Testament exercises are a bit sparse, although this may have been done intentionally due to some scholars believing that reading the real Greek comes after a certain level of competency in most of the grammar. There is also lacking a more updated position on verbal aspect. There are also several typos in the answer key, which would be a bit frustrating for students needing to check their work properly. Many of the English to Greek answers are presented in English word order instead of giving a more elegant Greek ordered translation. Finally, the grammar does not get students nearly as excited about reading the New Testament as does Mounce or the very good new introduction by Merkle and Plummer. I think a revision that cleared up the typos and balanced out the exercises a little more towards real New Testament verses and some morphology would make this an apex grammar for first-year students. There also needs to be some space devoted to learning tools, such as Plummer has done so masterfully.
Bottom line however, if you need a grammar that's going to get you ready for the intermediate level, this grammar is definitely better than most.

I'd love to, but it is not easy to get here in New Zealand. If I come across a copy, I'll do a review. Thanks for the suggestion!

Good and informative video. Pair with Decker eh? Good thought. In fact, as a result of listening to this, I went out purchased the book.Just starting to read it.
It reminds me a bit of the older grammars that so many learned from, but its a good sight better.
When will the review on Dana Harrish's be coming along?

So other than the verbal aspect, do you like this one as much or more than Decker?

I think I still prefer Decker overall. Thanks for watching!
