    **these boards are ALL second hand and consignment by the way! It’s not worth it in my opinion to spend money on brand new boards when you’re first starting off !

      Jeeez, I got a notification on this post & read that one comment that made you comment this! That guys is a jackass! Honestly who cares if your parents got you boards while you’re in school? 😑😑 I know you had said you got them yourself, but why do people hate when parents are still able to buy their college kids nice things? That person who left you that comment probably never had parental support to begin with. It just bugs me that just cause you’re a female dudes automatically downvote you! Like wtf, I always give credit when it’s due whether you’re a girl or boy! Hence why I said yesterday that you rip! Don’t let these broke miserable F**ks get you to Bri, they just mad cause you shred & they can barely afford one board 😂😂! I have a daughter of my own (lil 4 year old) so I’m always stoked to see female surfers who can shred like yourself! I show her videos of you & other girls ripping & she gets soo happy! I can’t wait to show her how to surf!!!!❤ Stay Positive, Always Briii 😎🤙🏻

    I started surfing in my mid 30s, three years ago. I had a similar progression like you, and I’m on my 6th board now, a 5’11 with 30L. There is no secret, the more you are in the water, the more you progress, and you will feel when it’s time to change the board.

    Great video! I just started transitioning to a 7’0 Fish but it’s definitely been a struggle to catch waves. I’m doing a surf camp in 2024 to progress. Love the beautiful blue board you use!

    Congrats for the journey, learning to surf is really fun (and somehow addictive too 😝). Few things I noticed from your clips:
    - you're kinda riding holding a pretty static position (not compressing and extending that much), which translates in you running mid face/at the bottom of the wave and not generating enough speed because your board is almost never on rail;
    - your arms are all over the place, you don't want that. Imagine your arms as a bike handlebar: you want them well connected with your torso into a very solid and "squared" position. This will make your rotation smoother, hence will improve your rail to rail transition. Flapping the arms results in inconsistent commands sent to your board, which will start to wiggle causing you to bog rails, drag and ultimately slowing down;
    - your popup looks good, I think you can definitely start practicing pumping. Start building the habit of straightening your body after the initial compression. You do that by throwing your arm to the direction you want to go while extending using a "jumping" motion, although I think jumping is misleading since in reality you want to push away the board from your body (using either your heels or your toes). Checkout Martin Dunn channel, he explains this really well and there're also some drills;
    Good luck with your progression, stay safe and have fun,
    Yew 🤙

      thanks for the tips! when I first learned to pump, I realized I was pumping too much and outrunning the wave every time, which wasn't good. so then I started trying to cut back, and then somehow, now I can't focus on doing them both! Its a lot to think about for me. I'll eventually get there!

    • @Spider2029
      @Spider2029 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brisurfs Totally understandable, I've been there. The trick is to work on one thing at the time, until becomes automatic. So if you're working on cutbacks stick to them, or work on different skills using separate sessions.
      Combining things together is related to flow, and requires a lot of experience in reading waves, understanding what manoeuvre to do in each section and so on.
      By the way, no rush: the journey of achieving something is by far the best part, because you will feel you earn it.
      Best!

    Glad to have found your video. Just copped my first 6'2'' shortboard so I'm hoping I'll be surfing like you do on your Driver.
    Can I ask, what conditions do you choose to bring out the Driver like wave heights? Are you just forcing yourself to use it over all the other boards to get better? Sometimes I feel like I want to always reach for my midlengths to catch all the waves but I don't feel like I'm progressing anymore.

    • @brisurfs
      @brisurfs  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey! Yeah I basically have decided to force myself to use it over all the other boards to get better like you said, consistently taking it out has helped me get used to it. I'll take out my midlength if it's a bigger day so that I have a bit more paddling power, otherwise I'll take out the driver.

I promise you, the more often you go, the better you will get over time.. be patient with yourself because it is a long process! It takes a long time to progress at surfing, which is frustrating at times, but will be worth it in the end. And I just fixed my link- thanks (:

    Pop-up. I moved to Huntington Beach from Seattle in '87 and started trying to surf a year later. I couldn't stand up so when we got home my roommate was try to teach me not to climb up but to pop up. I still couldn't do it and he got frustrated because I'm naturally good at sports and he didn't understand why it was an issue. After a bit he had me switch rear feet. I'm right handed everything but goofy foot surfing/skateboard/snowboarding. I thought he was being a dick when he said I was goofy so I called him a fu*king as*hole. I was good after learning I am naturally left foot rear..

    • @brisurfs
      @brisurfs  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've heard this happen to a lot of people, Ive tried switching and it didn't seem to feel anymore natural for me! I think I just need more practice, I never did board sports before this, only swam competitively.

    Highly recommend you get a surf skate to practice your body flow on the wave - it will help enormously with using your entire body and keeping everything in sync - sorry that’s a crap explanation I’m sure you’ll understand if you follow kale brock

    I’m trying to learn on a 6,6 fibreglass board iv been told foam boards are better to start on but is it still possible to learn on the board iv got rather than having to go buy a foam board 😊

    • @brisurfs
      @brisurfs  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is definitely a lot harder to learn on especially if you're not able to go everyday ! I would recommend renting a foam board or finding a cheap one off Facebook marketplace!

    I wish you could've covered on how you learned to pass the break with your longboard. Do you turtle-roll, Duck-Dive or use the push-through technique? I ride my 8'0 mostly so thats why I am asking. I am waiting for my local shaper to finish my 7'5" custom (Hopefully sometime next-week) so I can practice duck-dives on that. Nonetheless though your progression has been outstanding! Stay Ripping Bri :)

    • @brisurfs
      @brisurfs  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I turtle rolled and did the push through technique with the 8 foot wavestorm! Depending on your weight /size and the volume of the board, you will either have to turtle roll or duck dive. For example, I can't duck dive my 6'10 or 6'8 because the board has too much volume for my size and weight. I can however duck dive the 6'3 because it is less volume. Im assuming you might have to turtle roll the 7'5 as well, but again it depends on your size and weight !
