    Hey, interesting video. What do you use for white washing the branches?

    • @TropicalGardenGuy
      @TropicalGardenGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most people use latex paint mixed 50/50 water.
      I’ve been using iv organics white wash as of late

    Lol I am growing a avocado from seed.. it’s sprouted and had beautiful green leaves .. I put it in the Texas sun for a few days … the full sun and heat literally destroyed it😅 the sun even scorch the seed!!! … but at the base a new shoot is coming out and I will keep it in shade .. lesson learned never keep a avocado seedling in full Texas sun!

      @TropicalGardenGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      At least you guys have humidity! We are bone dry.
      Might I suggest, put a seed directly into the ground. It will send roots out to find water . Once its large enough, graft it to a good variety.

    you da man, man lol. I would like to know more about your queen graft, how is it holding up. Would you recommend a queen on lamb hass. I've seen a 5 gal for sale.

    • @TropicalGardenGuy
      @TropicalGardenGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually have at least one queen fruit set! Its about the size of a plum.
      There maybe more, i need to check. I think I show it on my last cado video. Queen on lamb should be ok.

    How long will the mexicola hang on tree after there ripe

    • @TropicalGardenGuy
      @TropicalGardenGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      depends on the weather, but a couple of weeks to a month

  • @RareAvoTrees
    @RareAvoTrees 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So Jeff you got avo 2 trees total in front yard? Isn't it kind of hard to keep track of which branch is what variety ?do the black Johnston ripen in Nov total hang time about 8 months ?

    • @TropicalGardenGuy
      @TropicalGardenGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, I only have two trees in front yard, I need to slow down a bit in my videos. Yes, Black Johnson ripen in the late fall, I’d say 6 months to ripe as the flowered early May. So only a little more than one month after flowering, the fruit is already the size on a regular Mexicola at Maturity in Sept!
      Ill do a video on Black Johnson Soon!

    Jeff do you know a cheap source of zutano or bacon seeds I'm trying to find a source this winter that have large fruit/large seeds for rootstock.

      @TropicalGardenGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Shane, No, I dont know of anyone that sells seeds. I used the large seed from Wilma Avocado last year and they did good even in 1 gal pot.

      hmm, the only Duke tree that I know of is wayyy up north Valley in Oroville.
      Just to let you know. The first Avocado that I grafted was a Mex grande on a hass seedling rootstock. Had no problems with it , even when it got cold!

    Which varieties do you recommend that are good about shading themselves, and thus avoiding sunburn?

    • @TropicalGardenGuy
      @TropicalGardenGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hass, reed etc seem to be more bushy. If you notice in my last video, Mexicola Grande side of my tree is still bare and could get some sunburn if I dont white wash.
