So glad you touched on your education. I feel like nowadays so many influencers and prominent figures (especially on TH-cam) are pushing this ‘high school dropout’ image that seems dangerous for younger people to follow. Keep up the great work ❤️

It's so important. It's not everyone that can be famous after dropout school, I had friends that decided don't go to college and they have less options of job and they missed the experience.

FCN_ Art, my husband didn’t go to college and I have two B.A.’s and an M.A., he creates opportunity through sheer force of will. He’s super smart but not obedient enough for a typical degree. I think it depends a lot on the individual what type of education is a good idea and if you are going to opt out you need to be willing and able to reinvent yourself, to huddle, and to have some serious networking and social skills. I think the big thing is to always move forward and not get stuck at entry level.

I think education is necessary for certain fields but a lot of the time it is a scam, my husband was a history major wanting to be a professor but when he found out how difficult it can be to find a job in that field along with how little pay you receive for 6 years worth of school/debt he decided to drop out. He now does management work for construction companies and makes at least double what he would have made if he'd stayed in school.

    • @MissAlikescakes
      @MissAlikescakes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@FCN_ Art probably in your country. In my country, Portugal, everyone needs to have college. If you have only high school or less you curriculum is weak. There is many people here that have less than 9th grade because the school system was different before the 90's, they don't find job because you can see that at time the focus was get out of school and get a job, so today they don't speak and wrote well. Also it was really expensive study after the 6the grade at that time, so everyone now needs to have one college coarse.
There is place where we can try find job and they offer the option to that people come back to school and learn more but they don't want, they fell the school system changed too much.

I wonder if this is just a Uk thing? Because it’s definitely not in the US I can’t even tell you how many people I know that don’t have jobs in there degree. Here everyone hires on experience. The earlier you get in for the experience is who gets the job. Come to think of it I probably know more well off people my age who dropped out of highschool to get internships and now get payed major money then I do people who work in the degree they paid 50k for

@@carter7808 it depends on what you get your degree in. A degree in any of the STEM fields, business and marketing, the medical sciences, a trades degree, or a double major in teaching and a subject like science, English, languages, etc. will be more likely to get you a steady job than say, a degree in gender studies or philosophy.

Uni is good if you go for something like STEM, business, education, or the medical fields. You could then get a minor in something like English, or Gender studies; or get a double major in teaching and English to be a teacher. It's just not good to go into 70K of student debt for a degree that will not get you a good paying job unless you double major in something that will get you a good job. I lucked out because my 70k of student debt is going toward a STEM degree in a viable field and a Spanish degree as well, but I have a friend who did only English with a film emphasis, got into student debt, and he is pushing carts for $10.00 an hour. It's awful.

That will earn you respect in the business world and from other people who understand horology.

I bought a house two years ago, half an hour out of my northern city. People asked me why.
It was really simple. I wanted a house with a mortgage that I could pay off with ease. I didn't want to stay up at night with a huge 3 bed house in a fancy area, worrying about losing a job, going off sick etc.
My location was a sacrifice but a huge gain in terms of finance. My brother is 4 years older than me and isn't close to buying his home because its in a super expensive area. He's in debt with credit cards and he's going on fancy holidays.
People look at me and wonder how I've done it. I've just been smarter and bought things within my means.

Sunny Ray yes! I used to work for a credit card company and so many people ruined their credit scores going on repayment plans because they were simply living a lifestyle they couldn’t afford. I’d go through their income and outgoings with them and they’d be shocked at how much they spent each month (some were spending thousands over their income!). working there made me so aware of what I was earning vs spending each month.

I agree of having a degree. I went to nursing school while raising 3 kids. It was difficult and brutal. I have no social life and i was deprived with sleep, but in the end it was all worth. After earning a degree I have a greater Self Satisfaction, and I believe that my job as a nurse is meaningful. On my graduation I got a Porsche Cayenne as a gift from my husband but, nothing can compare the feeling of sense of satisfaction from earning a degree that I work so hard for. Kudos to Sophie for emphasizing about the importance of education.

Yes education was my best investment too started at 17 yo and spent a total of 22 years getting my degrees. Finished my doctorate at 60 with no debt. Worked full time the entire time night shift. Received my Rolex when I finished grad school at Georgetown Univ. have worn it Everday since 1983. . However I have now traveled the world, have a horse farm and finally got my dream car four years ago. So appreciate you encouraging others. While a degree is not the only way to success it adds many layers to our knowledge and understanding of the world. Thank you for the pleasurable vid. My mom is very well off and is generous enough to give me a very comfortable life and sometimes help me with luxury purchases, but she always says the greatest gift she'll give me is my education. Retired uni administrator here and also I ran a state agency of the Guaranteed Student Loan program in the USA many years ago where I was asst director of the agency (we also gave millions annually of state taxpayer money to needy student each year for tuition, payment was sent directly to the institutions)..We testified before the US Congress when it was reauthorizing the Higher Education Act that increasing the maximum guaranteed student loan would only lead to rampant tuition inflation nationally. This was in the late 70s!! I was a fresh PhD . They ignored us and raised the ceiling and lo and behold tuition rose at a rate well above the rate of inflation and continued to so do so right up to today. What students and the public don't realize is that higher education is a business first and foremost. Professors usually teach for the passion they have for the subject matter, at least at the start of their careers and many maintain that passion throughout. Presidents or chancellors or whoever is at the top of a uni or college has THEIR career first and foremost in their minds. If they increase enrollment (ie sell more "product") or expand the physical footprint through donations , whatever source of capital they themselves benefit. In the USA if they raise the mission from a 2 yr college to 4yr or a 4yr college to regional uni, or a regional uni to a research uni (we call this mission creep and is it is HUGELY costly to taxpayers, students everyone who pays)...well ,that president raiss the salary and prestige of their NEXT job. That is how they grow their OWN careers and salaries and prestige. Dept chars want more equipment, or nicer classrooms, larger office, or a larger travel budget...on and on and on it goes, frittering away money that has ZERO to do with educating students. The taxpayers pay through various subsidies they are totally unaware of, the students pay through debt. It is unconscionable that this is the state of affairs, but there is the truth higher education. It is big business.
On a personal level for the student some professors add immeasurably to what one does in life, others, not so much. Same with subjects , same with degree programs...some are highly useful, others are totally worthless. It used to be early in my early career that most degrees doubled a persons lifetime earnings, the research showed. Not so today. My best advice is for a student to have some idea WHAT field they are interested in. FInd out if a degree is helpful at ALL or not, eg most entrepreneurs are successful with or without degrees...most are degrees for them are unnecessary, unless it is a highly technical field.,..even then people like Bill Gates and many others have shown that degrees were not necessary for even technical success...for entrepreneurs. If you want to be a physician or lawyer (USA)/barrister well then, you must have the degrees to be licensed to practice, period. No way around that. Today in the USA many trades people like plumbers, electricians etc make more money than graduates with a 4 yr general degree. At least now you know what you were really paying for...sorry, I did MY best to talk reason into my colleagues, but where there is money to be made, well it is hard to be one of few protesting instead of just raking in for oneself whatever one can. The profit motive reigns supreme in most people's hearts.

Unexpected but loved the poaching pan! I think that the main reason why porridge never kept you full is, if I am not mistaken, you’ve always used either quick cooking or instant oats. If you still like porridge, try getting jumbo oats and cook them on the stove for a while. Add some banana, flaxseed and milk inside (besides the toppings) to keep you full longer. I hate instant oats because not only they don’t taste anywhere near as good, they don’t keep you full even for an hour. I know a lot of people don’t really like to spend a lot of time cooking, but trust me, it makes a huge difference!

  • @cjeelde

So strong of you to talk about all this. Wanna make a comment :)
Honestly, it's really simple. Really simple. If you know how the financial market is built.
The banks normally offer you two kind of cards: CREDIT and DEBIT card. They hope you gonna pick the Credit Card - and there's a good and simple reason for that.
With Credit Cards you can buy "whatever you want" today, and go into debt. You cannot do that with Debit Cards. With a Debit Card you may have to save money for months or longer than that to afford the thing you wanna buy.
So it's about this: can you REALLY wait to buy the things you wanna have?
So it's a society problem! Fewer and fewer people knows that you have to save money to afford something. The banks and credit card companies has really made MOST people change their behaviour when spending money.
My STRONG advice is this: always start with a DEBIT card. It may sound so boring, but that is the GOOD card for you. Credit card is the BAD card.
I know you get "cash back" with a credit card, but WHY do you get that? It's only a trick from the banks to make you wanna stay in this trap. Cuz that's what it is. A credit card is a trap! Some people are smart enough to avoid going into debt with a credit card, but too many are not that smart. You need soooo much discipline when owning and using a credit card.
So yeah - it's easy. Go for a Debit Card.

cjeelde some people are smart and know how to use credit to their advantage. Because of my credit card I was able to buy a brand new car at 21. I’ve never missed a payment and my credit is important to me. It’s people who don’t control themselves that are an issue but as a safety net a credit card is a good thing to have in case of emergency.
