The allure of designer items is something I'll never understand. Don't get me wrong, there's some insanely overpriced coats that I think are beautiful but I would never actually buy them.
Best Purchase: paying my rent months In advance because it feels so good to just have it go at one time and not worry about it Worst purchase: expensive alcohol
I honestly love that most of the time the best thing is to really listen to yourself and what you want. This helped me a lot through many things. Especially in University!
*I appreciate that you didn't include / don't really buy designer stuff! That's how I am too, so this video is so much more applicable to my lifestyle!*
Best purchase I ever made was adopting my cat from Petsmart. The worst purchase I ever made was buying clothes to keep with trend and not even wearing the clothes. And another worse purchase is not comparing prices or doing enough research to another apartments when I moved to Salem from Portland.
Aww your cat! That's amazing. I totally agree on your trendy clothes purchases...if they are super cheap or I don't LOVE it in store then they barely get any use!
Ipad 7th edition when the 8th edition came out. Ended up using it every single day when covid happened and all my classes became online. Makes it so much easier to collab online.
I love this video so much! It’s as if I have a friend just talking to me and telling me her best and worst purchases in somehow a good detailed manner. Whilst you’re talking, I am also taking in a lot.
I know! I think sometimes people like the experience of going through a dealer because it seems easier....but I got my used car from a dealer and it was great and I still had the "new car" buying experience without the crazy price tag!
Dear Kiara, thank you for the brain food you put in the description box. So so impressive and a must watch for everyone. It is heartbreaking to see the patients up close. But massive respect to all the nurses out there. You are doing an amazing job each day! Keep going but don't be afraid to talk to your family/friends about what you're going through ❤
Aww thank you so much for watching that! I haven't mentioned that all my videos posted in 2021 have a brain food link in them just because I think it's great to prioritize learning & seeing experiences through the eyes of others. That video truly touched me & those nurses are so admirable!
My best purchases are my dog (love him SO MUCH), my really nice winter boots, and my camping gear. Worst purchase- this skirt that ended up having huge custom fees and then didn't even fit when I got it, several more expensive plants that I killed when my house got renovated ahaha
I loved this video something so relaxing about listening to others talk about their bad purchases.:) Makes me feel like I'm not alone in my bad spending habits haha.
I think my best purchase would have to be my Vera Bradley purse I found for $3 at a garage sale. I had been wanting one forever and when I found that, I was like this is amazing luck. My worst purchase would have to be all the school supplies I bought each year, instead of just using the things I already had and just buy the things I didn’t have. Loved this video Kiara💜💜
I love that Madie! What an amazing find...and yes I agree it's so easy to get sucked in to re-buying supplies when you could totally re-use what you have!
My best purchases: my cat (and her vet bills) and my camera! My worst purchase would probably be a ton of makeup from Sephora because I thought I’d use it but I literally never touch it now
Just checked my bank account today because of what you said and saw that I had a $300 charge for a web domain that I don’t even use any more! Got it cancelled and got a refund!

I work in the outdoor industry, so I have access to pro deals, but i will never pro deal ski boots ever again!!! retail all the way so those babies fit. :)

Lol I can't believe you thought you wouldn't use your g7x! 😂 I also relate on your iphone purchase....I did that with my last phone and I really wanted to get the max!
Well this is a timely video. Just made the big plunge and bought a new SUV yesterday. It’s time to say goodbye to my car that has served me well and I know the SUV fits with my current and future lifestyle, so as hard as it is to part with the money it won’t be a purchase I regret!
@@KiaraMadisen Yes, it's so good! I ordered a free trade-in kit from apple. I think you can go in the store and try to trade it in as well but I've never done that because my nearest store is like 45 minutes away.

I feel like a lot of women our age (I'm also 23 lol) have at least one of those stupid travel mistake stories. When I was studying abroad I went to Copenhagen for a couple of days and I was very proud of myself because I got to the train station (where I needed to catch my bus back home) over an hour early and had time to hang out. Well come half an hour before the bus left I started to look for it, and couldn't find it. It was a train station that also had local and international/long distance buses and I kept getting led back to where the local buses were and just basically had a whole meltdown in this train station. I ended up having to book another bus ticket and another night at the hostel (because the bus I missed was the only Copenhagen - Vienna bus that day). There were some other mini travel horror stories from that semester but that was probably the dumbest and the only one that was 100% my fault lol. I feel like that year and the year after (where I was traveling a lot for grad school auditions) I learned a lot about how to travel well by myself and my deal breakers.
I think a video around financials and investing in a Roth IRA could be super helpful for your followers. I didn’t even know what a Roth was until last year and I feel like others our age are in that same boat :’)
Wow, this is such a useful video. I guess, we all are humans after all, learning from mistakes and growing up while at it. My best purchase is my canon DSLR for photography and a great sized refrigerator (adulting of next level) and some of online courses in recent times. Worst purchase is also few other online courses which I am yet to open and go through. And I can't wait to see your budgeting tips and videos now, let us have them soon pls 😊
That's such a good way to put it! We really are all humans trying to do our best out here! Love your camera and fridge purchase successes...good choices 👏
Omg, textbooks. There's one I still have in its plastic cling wrap in a box somewhere. Such a waste but we were basically forced to buy it and it was the new edition. That was the worst professor I had in all my undergrad and grad years combined. So bad that my cohort got together and went to speak to the department director. Overall I tend to be careful with how I spend my money because I didn't grow up being able to buy whatever I wanted and I've always had to work hard to afford anything, even the basics in life. I've been happy with all my devices purchases; my MBPs and iPad mini all served me well when I needed them through all my years of university. I always waited for the back to school sales Apple did and would get my student discount plus each time I got a printer for just $10 and even got the iPod touch (first gen) free. Always got Apple Care too and used it to replace the battery on my oldest MBP once. I will never regret the thousands I spent on vet care for my canary because she needed the care and it gave us the most time together. Sadly she was a senior and couldn't recover but everything I did for her was worth it, including the animal ambulance trip since she had to remain on oxygen. I'm really trying to think but I don't think I can come up with something major that I regret.
Omg the textbook in cling wrap 😂🙈 I am so glad you don't have many regrets and have learned to be very cautious with your spending, that's so smart! Thanks so much for watching & commenting!
Loved this video. My best purchase was my laptop I bought for university back in 2013, all though it did die in 2018 it was truly the best thing I purchased for school, also the laptop I have now, not as great of purchase but still love it. Worst purchase is my trip to myrtle beach in 2017, the people I went with ended up just making it an awful trip, I really want to go back to do it right.
I think a laptop that you love lasting 5 years is a victory! It is funny how certain trips can just totally be ruined by the people lol...you definitely need a comeback trip to Myrtle beach just like I need one to Spain 😂
I bought a new mac a few months ago (parent's money, emi), I was so grateful when my dad was ready to buy it for me, saw it as an investment. I came back to uni and a few weeks ago, i spilled water on the screen by mistake and I FREAKED, I was like i knew i never deserved it that's why it happened and everything. But then thankfully only the screen was hampered a bit and it's all ok now, NOTHING happened to the laptop so I could related so much. Kiara, I have a mantra now : NO LIQUIDS AROUND WHEN I HAVE MY LAPTOP NEARBY. ugh.
haha wow yep lesson learned the hard way 😂 Glad your laptop survived...I felt so stupid when it happened because I knew I knew better, but you must make sure there are no exceptions to the rule!
In Germany we have an insurance called Haftpflicht (around 5 Euro a month) that covers 100% of damage you cause to other people's things, including laptops, furniture, etc. I can't imagine having to pay any thing out of pocket for a situation like this!
Thank you so much! I actually got them at a vintage poster shop in Hawaii! If you go to my room tour video I linked their instagram or website in my description box!
Best purchase: exchanging a $20 of wine for my beautiful dog beema. My parents weren’t coping with having such a big and young dog and I was desperate to have a furry friend. My dad loved his bottle of wine and beema and I have a bond I would never replace. Worst purchase: my couch! My fiancé I swear never grew out of his toddler phase and spills goodness knows what on it on a daily basis and now looks like a squatters couch 🤮 however this led to another one of my best purchases, a Bissel spot cleaner! It’s amazing like a vacuum shampoo machine and my couch came up looking brand new!!
I am really good in the worst purchases department haha. Especially when it comes to shoes. I am a half size, so I always buy them to big or to small. Get blisters and never wear them again. Best purchase was probably my travels. I have enjoyed every second and never shy away from paying extra for sustainable tourism.
honestly, standardized test prep classes (SAT, GRE, LSAT, etc.) really have paid off for me. it sucks that scores really are impacted by socioeconomic status because of who can afford to take these classes, but in terms of getting into good schools and programs, I would say (for me) they were worth it.
I didn't even study for the SAT or GRE and went exactly where I needed to go for the program I wanted. I think some schools are just too obsessed with those standardized tests.
@@XSemperIdem5 yeah, schools for sure take wayyy too much stock in standardized test scores. until they change that though, I try to view those classes as an educational (and therefore, career) investment. I would say the SAT classes were specifically worth it - I was stuck in the 1300s for three times until I took a prep class, the crazy thing is that they don’t even teach you any new info. all you really learn is how to take the test strategically
That's a really good point! It's funny because I would say the opposite...my parents didn't want to pay to put me in a class, but they said they would pay for my Panera if I went there and studied myself with a prep book. I did just that and improved my ACT score 4 points to get what I wanted. Looking back I'm really proud of just doing it myself & making it happen, but I totally agree that the classes can be helpful for some!
Worst purchase : a bunch of trendy and crazy color makeup that I only use once. And nintendo switch. Don’t regret buying it but I feel like I could’ve bought something more important with that money cause I rarely play with the switch lately. Best purchase : my iphone and vlog camera. Believe it or not I still use iphone 6s plus and it still works just fine. It’s been almost 5 years and I finally reach the point of wanting to upgrade. Money well spent imo..
I know some universities include textbooks in tuition, so frickin worth it! I have a history minor and had 13 books last semester, it's so nice to not have to pay for them, especially when we only used some for like 2 weeks of class!
Omg I remember your spain chaos travel that one summer! 😱 My best purchase = my MacBook, I’m on there all day everyday Worst purchase = $2k designer purse 🙃 never again buying designer things unless I know I’m able to afford it hahaha!
Oh, you are out of power too in Oregon? I'm from Europe, and the news I watch mention mostly Texas. I hope it will be back to normal for all of you soon. Maybe you can make a video about your life nowvwithout electricity... how do you charge your camera, laptop? how do you spend your free time? That would be intetesting :)
Yep we lost power right before Texas, because the storm hit here first, but from my understanding out power outage was more because of fallen trees from the ice and a lot of physical damage...I was only out for 5 days so I feel for the people in Texas who had no water or power for longer than that! I wish I would have filmed my experience though...it was quite the adventure lol
best: my car- i was out of a car for months bc i had leased before and long story short i ended up having to purchase a car that wasn’t in my plan or budget. but i waited to find a car i knew i could afford and had everything. the only thing was the color of the car but I had looked for months and was borrowing cars from people to get to work and school that i did compromise on the color. worst: iPad Pro. bought it and instantly regretted it bc of the price. returned it the next day, two years later, got an iPad for my birthday for school (bc everything was online for pandemic) but it was the 7th generation that was like $300 which i felt way more comfortable with even tho it was a gift as well from my aunt.
I had a university professor who had a car that was an easter egg shade of turquoise. He said he intentionally walked into the dealership and chose the color they couldn't sell and because of that he negotiated a lower price. He was like, "do I care that I'm a retired cop driving an easter egg colored car? Nope. I saved money."
I love your comment Carly! You sound so smart & wise with your money...I would have done the same thing with the ipad pro...I just find that one too extra for my needs. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! How old are the skis?? If they are still usable then maybe save them for a ski swap in your area or post them on craigslist or facebook market place! If they are old school straight skis then Goodwill is one of the only places that will take them and people will make them into cool benches and chairs!
the best purchase i've ever made is buying my Canon EOS m50!! i use it so much, and it has seriously stepped up my youtube game and motivation SO much!! the worst purchase I've made is probably renting textbooks instead of just buying them and then reselling them on amazon.
That's awesome that you love the m50 too! Interesting that you wish you bought your textbooks instead of renting..can you make a lot more money that way?
@@KiaraMadisen oh ya for sure! i've bought used textbooks off amazon for like a couple bucks, and they were in great condition so I just resold them for a little bit more than I paid for them! It's not like a ton of money, but it adds up a bit!
My car is the best purchase I've made bar none. It's a 2006 and I bought it used in 2009. I've owned it for just under 12 years and driven it across the country at least four times. I'll have to trade it out in the next few years and that will be a sad day!
I think ski boots are so hard to buy honestly. I have skinny ankles, short but wide feet and larger than average calves for my foot size, so not super easy to fit. I personally find it so hard to know when you’re walking around in the shop if the boot will be comfortable when I’m skiing. Had old ski boots which were really super painful, then got new ones and they still hurt sometimes even though i thought they were fine in the shop 😒
I totally agree! I feel like I am always tweaking my boot set up to try to get it to work for me...I feel like I'm so picky when it comes to my boots but it truly matters a ton!
nooooo 😂 I didn't even use the stupid banner! What a scam...that's when I wished youtubers were more transparent because I was convinced everyone was apart of it so I needed to be too!
Best Purchase: my Hatch alarm clock - expensive, but so worth it because I wake up in a good mood Worst Purchase: having the Ikon Base pass and then buying a 2-day lift ticket to Jackson Hole for $275 when I could have just upgraded my Ikon pass to include 5 days at Jackson Hole for $200 ugh
Omg the ski pass situation 😂 I hate when that happens lol...hope you still had a fun ski day! I just googled that alarm clock bc I've never heard of it & it looks amazing!
@@KiaraMadisen Despite the extra cost the skiing was amazing and we were blessed with powder so I don’t regret it. I love my Hatch! If you’re someone who hates the sound of normal alarms or if you often get up before the sunrises you would probably love it!
Best purchase : my desk chair cushion (so good to not have back pains after those long hours of studying) Worst purchase : every single Deliveroo (it’s like Uber eats in France) !
Wait I really relate to this. Every time I order food for delivery I have such an awkward experience or my food is cold/bad 😂 I'm like this is the universe telling me not to waste my money on this!
@@KiaraMadisen one time my food was late and then the driver gave me the wrong order, full of stuff that was either too spicy for me or I was straight up allergic to. I had to then reorder after getting it refunded and wait again. I was starving by the time I got my food. Food delivery feels like a gamble.
Best purchase: my iPad and Apple Pencil Worst purchase: my iPad, I bought the Pro just because I didn’t want to wait until the store restock the iPad Air, and now I regret spending that much money since I only use it for note-taking
Speaking of the car purchase, don't u have to fill out a form if u pay more than $10,000 in cash? When u pay 2/3 of the value of the car upfront, I would think that is more than $10,000.
life hack: costco digitalizes vhs tapes for really cheap. don’t tell my mom but we got her that for mother’s day🥺

I love this vid! I also love your room so much !!
Thank you so much!! ❤️
@@KiaraMadisen yes, comeback trips! probably will be a trip for when I am done with school (post-covid or when we can travel)
@@KiaraMadisen DEFINITELY! 😂❤️ you too
I spent so much money on textbooks mostly as a freshman when I did not know you could buy them used or rent them
I loved this video, very useful! Thank you 😊
I'm so glad!
this convinced me to finally buy a gel manicure set
omg yay! You're going to love it!
Mine would have to be my treadmill. I love running but my neighborhood is not super safe to go running in and I use it around 3x a week.
In Germany we have an insurance called Haftpflicht (around 5 Euro a month) that covers 100% of damage you cause to other people's things, including laptops, furniture, etc. I can't imagine having to pay any thing out of pocket for a situation like this!
wait that is the greatest thing I've ever heard!
I love love love your room, where did you get those pictures on your wall?
Thank you so much! I actually got them at a vintage poster shop in Hawaii! If you go to my room tour video I linked their instagram or website in my description box!
you could use your imac as a second screen for the laptop to make editing / working easier on your eyes, that's what I do! :)
oh yes! I did that a lot at my other apartment when I had a huge desk...unfortunatly I really don't have a good desk space anymore :/
Cool job, Kiara!❤️❤️
Thanks!
Wow these are some amazing stories! So glad you have a furry friend & a clean couch thanks to your smart shopping :)
i love this video!!!! and u kiara!!
I'm so glad! Thank you so much for watching!
I am really good in the worst purchases department haha. Especially when it comes to shoes. I am a half size, so I always buy them to big or to small. Get blisters and never wear them again.
Best purchase was probably my travels. I have enjoyed every second and never shy away from paying extra for sustainable tourism.
oh no your shoe struggle 🙈 I mean technically not your fault...that's just frustrating! Thanks for watching & commenting!
Great video Kiara! 🤗
Thank you!! 😊
honestly, standardized test prep classes (SAT, GRE, LSAT, etc.) really have paid off for me. it sucks that scores really are impacted by socioeconomic status because of who can afford to take these classes, but in terms of getting into good schools and programs, I would say (for me) they were worth it.
Ur hair looks stunning miss girl
omg thank you I have not gotten it done in 6 months 😂
This was so entertaining. Love the Starbucks story. Haha
haha yea I could never study in that spot again 😂
ily kiaraa ❤️ stay safe
I love you! Thank you so much for watching!
HIGHLY recommend getting a monitor to replace the experience of a desktop Mac. They’re really not too expensive and totally worth it.
That's a really good idea!
I know there used to be a software that allowed you to use your iMac as a second monitor but not sure if that's still around.
I love being one of the few who were there for the Spain story 👀
the real ones know the truth ;)
Worst purchase : a bunch of trendy and crazy color makeup that I only use once. And nintendo switch. Don’t regret buying it but I feel like I could’ve bought something more important with that money cause I rarely play with the switch lately.
Best purchase : my iphone and vlog camera. Believe it or not I still use iphone 6s plus and it still works just fine. It’s been almost 5 years and I finally reach the point of wanting to upgrade. Money well spent imo..
That's amazing! Your iphone is really going strong 👏
Omg I need those !! Im gonna add some to my list!
👏👏👏
I know some universities include textbooks in tuition, so frickin worth it! I have a history minor and had 13 books last semester, it's so nice to not have to pay for them, especially when we only used some for like 2 weeks of class!
wait that is amazing..unless it raises tuition lol
@@KiaraMadisen honestly not too much, I feel like it pays for itself really quickly
this was so good! definitely going to look into Roth IRAs now, so helpful!
That's what I like to hear! Make it happen!
Omg I remember your spain chaos travel that one summer! 😱
My best purchase = my MacBook, I’m on there all day everyday
Worst purchase = $2k designer purse 🙃 never again buying designer things unless I know I’m able to afford it hahaha!
oh yeah good lesson learned! A $200 designer purse on sale can be just as cute 😂
Love your hair!!
Thank you! I got on that overnight braid game!
I had the EXACT same issue with StyleHaul!! My dad even looked over the contract and everything. I swear I lost so so much money ugh
Oh my gosh......🙈 Bad memories....at least we were not alone. So many people experienced the same thing!
@@KiaraMadisen definitely😂😅
Yes!! Love the video!!
Yay! Thank you for watching!
live for these vids!!!
I'm so glad! I've been meaning to make this forever!
Woah such a cool vid idea, I am an impulse buyer so I feel this!
haha yea we need to think before we buy 😂
best: my car- i was out of a car for months bc i had leased before and long story short i ended up having to purchase a car that wasn’t in my plan or budget. but i waited to find a car i knew i could afford and had everything. the only thing was the color of the car but I had looked for months and was borrowing cars from people to get to work and school that i did compromise on the color.
worst: iPad Pro. bought it and instantly regretted it bc of the price. returned it the next day, two years later, got an iPad for my birthday for school (bc everything was online for pandemic) but it was the 7th generation that was like $300 which i felt way more comfortable with even tho it was a gift as well from my aunt.
I love you and your channel so much! Do know where I could donate old skis? I'm trying to be more environmentally conscious. 💕
Thank you! How old are the skis?? If they are still usable then maybe save them for a ski swap in your area or post them on craigslist or facebook market place! If they are old school straight skis then Goodwill is one of the only places that will take them and people will make them into cool benches and chairs!
@@KiaraMadisen The skis are still usable, thank you so much!!
Love your videos!
So glad! Thank you so much for watching!
the best purchase i've ever made is buying my Canon EOS m50!! i use it so much, and it has seriously stepped up my youtube game and motivation SO much!! the worst purchase I've made is probably renting textbooks instead of just buying them and then reselling them on amazon.
I'll have to trade it out in the next few years and that will be a sad day!
wow that's amazing that it's been in your life for so long! I hope it takes you on many more adventures!
Love thisss❤️
Aww thank YOU!! ❤️
I feel like I am always tweaking my boot set up to try to get it to work for me...I feel like I'm so picky when it comes to my boots but it truly matters a ton!
ilyyy kiara
I love you!
I partnered with style haul too! lost so much money from it :( only got a banner that said 'style haul partner' hahaha
nooooo 😂 I didn't even use the stupid banner! What a scam...that's when I wished youtubers were more transparent because I was convinced everyone was apart of it so I needed to be too!
I can’t believe that Sunday is the last of February the month ran by fast
that is so crazy....how is this year just flying by!
Best: French bulldog puppy :')
Worst: Paying someone to do my hair and makeup for my wedding!
aww a frenchy 🥺💕 and interesting regret....I guess you're right if you have a friend who's pretty good at that you can make something happen!
@@KiaraMadisen honestly I just felt like the end result wasn't even as good as I normally do myself lol...and for $500 that wasn't the best feeling!
Worst: One of those hair straighteners that looks like a hair brush
Best: Macbook Air 2015 ... Still going strong! 👌💕
omg your Macbook is a rockstar.
Best Purchase: my Hatch alarm clock - expensive, but so worth it because I wake up in a good mood
Worst Purchase: having the Ikon Base pass and then buying a 2-day lift ticket to Jackson Hole for $275 when I could have just upgraded my Ikon pass to include 5 days at Jackson Hole for $200 ugh
Best purchase : my desk chair cushion (so good to not have back pains after those long hours of studying)
Worst purchase : every single Deliveroo (it’s like Uber eats in France) !
Best purchase: my iPad and Apple Pencil
Worst purchase: my iPad, I bought the Pro just because I didn’t want to wait until the store restock the iPad Air, and now I regret spending that much money since I only use it for note-taking
ohhh yea the air is definitely good enough for that...well now you have all the features 😂
Value-aligned spending
Oh yea 👏 love that!
By the way, I love your shirt here 😍
Thank you!
Speaking of the car purchase, don't u have to fill out a form if u pay more than $10,000 in cash? When u pay 2/3 of the value of the car upfront, I would think that is more than $10,000.
yep! I had to get a cashier's check at the bank to pull that much out of my account!
