- check out my new song:
distrokid.com/...
talking about Katy Perry and her new y2k aesthetic promoting her newest song "Women's World". This aesthetic has becoming more and more popular in recent years with artists like Pinkpantheress, Ice Spice, and even Halsey as of late.

to be fair ice spice was literally born on y2k, january 1, 2000-i would name my debut album that too if i were her 🫡😔
ok then real asf
Honestly, it wouldn't have mattered what she named it as long as the content/actual music of the album - the important part - was well-received. It wasn't.
The main issue is that Katy Perry was ALREADY a well known artist in the 2000's 😂😂😂 Doesn't matter that she became greatly popular in the late 2000's, she clearly demonstrated she was the type of girl that DIDN'T CARE OR LIKE THE Y2K AESTHETIC.
She cared way more about "looking normal" like the rest of us. Her aesthetic was more like the "super hot bimbo" as she showed in her early albums and collaborations. She even played as that in How I Met Your Mother!
She only started dressing up weird and doing her weird version of "camp" when she saw how popular California Gurls became. Before that she was a pretty average looking artist compared to Rihanna, Gaga, Nicki or Britney
She started off as a Christian artist so it makes sense she'd be aggressively normal. She blew up when she went against type by queer baiting with "I Kissed a Girl" on whose single she has a slightly unusual, but unnotable "cute" outfit
Katy was camp in 2008...
What kind of take is this? She was dressed like an exagerated pin-up girl during her first era and everything was fruit themed... She was 100% more outlandish and campy than Britney or Rihanna... what your critique misses is the fact she didnt have THE BUDGET
I find it funny how something unpopular back then, can become insanely popular nowadays. There are like hundreds of aesthetics and other types of media that fall into that category
yeah it’s insane how things come full circle and we’re now reliving “outdated” aesthetics becoming back in style
but it always starts with the underground
This new look is clearly inspired by the trans artist Arca, who herself was inspired by Bjork. In fact they ended up collaborating which really cemented their teacher/pupil status.
Katy Perry does look good but I'm also sure she's not gonna give us the music these two artists like to make. She's way too mainstream to be THAT experimental.
yeah she looks good, I don’t think she’s doing anything wrong
this video is a commentary overall the music industry adopting this as the new style direction for EVERY pop artist (its clearly the labels)
She literally experimented her Witness/Smile era
Nailed it. Omg
I don't think it has anything to do with Arca.
They will do everything except replicate the magic of 2000s pop/dance music, it's just the aesthetic but with modernized beats with a throwback essence hidden somewhere in the mix. Katy's new song sounds very basic, like drums and bass and vocals level basic, it actually sounds like a demo for Lady GaGa's Stupid Love, for Katy's sake i hope the album has full production with lots of sounds/instruments in each song and fully structured songs.
oh honey i was at the listening party for her album and omg yall arent ready, its full of perfect production
it's literally sound AI generated and not even the new snippets can save it. Also it's made by Dr Puke so there's that
Cant wait @@sharkkyyeu4508
It sounds like it was made to be a "Good Tik-Tok song" and to cause controversy. Katy clearly doesn't need another hit but HER LABEL is desperate.
😆you think the chrome look is from y2k? It goes back decades before y2k to old scifi movies🤖with liquid metal terminators etc
100% true, I think there’s like a distinct y2k chrome tho
New subscriber. I think your channel will be big
thank you so much! I hope so!
This is exactly how I felt waTchin Lunch Billie E. 90s vibe
you forgot to mention CHROMATICA by lady gaga
I already know the song is bad, Katy is working once again with the producer Dr. luke, a man with r@p3 accusations 🤮🤮
Yeah, we don't know exactly why she's working with him again. It's highly speculated it's due to her label. All I know is that the music better be AMAZINGGG
im sorry but how is this era of katys a Y2K theme, like the whole thing is so futuristic and stuff, the logo even is futuristic, the single cover is also futuristic, look at halseys theme and katys, two different things
I really like your interpretation on that and really enjoyed it , loves it ☺️ new sub for sure ! ❤
All styles now seem like they are a) reaching in the dark b) trying to hop on or create a hashtag. We are stylistically lost in the middle aged social media world
Katy' Perrys new album is inspired by Kylie Minogue and Madonna....
Katy she is just doing robotic legs which is not y2k. Im sure the music video will prove Im right
honestly it feels very y2k/laincore to me but either way not a big deal!
The hate she s getting for her comeback proves that she s big again✨️like middle 2010's big🥹🎊🎊🎊
For all the haters, f off😋gaga did it with chromatica, beyonce did it with renaissamples, at one point every 2000's queen will do it, now is katy s turn, she s back and she might be better than ever❤
Think about the aesthetic of Katy s cover!
Heavy metal robotic legs with almost transparent white bikinis. Analyse this deep antithesis and we re gonna talk after🫶
Y2KATY
*it doesnt have to do with 'mtv' as a whole, it has to do with ALL styles that were relevant, music, fashion, sports, tv, etc in the years 2000s.*
yes, mtv was just a joke
@@ROOKIETHESTAR *o ait well not everyone know so they would read that & assume it was about mtv lol*
New sub!! You have great opinions, and I agree, I feel like there's a whole world of possibilities out there, a lot of different styles, visuals, and stories that can be told and it's a little sad and a bit boring how every artist tries to hop on the same trend now. I feel like it's counterproductive even, since there are so many people doing the same thing, how will you stand out and make people interested in what you bring to the table when they could pay attention to the dozens of other artists bringing the same?
thanks for the support!
Good opinion, appreciate your thoughts. But tbh, i think this is how it’s always been in pop culture. Just how you described it.
Exactly like 2 years ago we were in a 80s inspired pop trend when people like Carly rae jepsen were doing that in 2015
for sure! its also not too deep, just tryna get my bag LOL
i thought katy perry already retired ☠️☠️☠️☠️
SCREAMING
Just let her old music speak for herself and leave that legacy why does she keep mesing up her great discography with mid stuff 😭
When you're her age you'll look back at this comment and cringe
Why would she????
@@dazzlingburritoes5693if you don't like it that's fine, but don't say shit like this pretending it's a fact
I was watching it and thinking this video had hundred thousands of views because of the quality, the size of the channel gagged me
thanks for the comment! hopefully we’re on the way haha!
At 33, I only want new music as iconic as the actual Y2K era. I’m expecting Sophie level slayage! 😂😂❤
The fact that he didn’t mention her nor Arca…
Katy Perry is still good omg but I don't like that style she has now.
2 minute 38 ou tu parle juste pour t'exprimer c'est vraiment de quoi youtube manque continue :)
I don't really mind. What's old is new again. I hope her new song iis catchy. Katy Perry is not that popular anymore. Good luck to her, anyway.
regardless a katy perry return is a W
gaga did it first
ok real but she was literally doing it in the y2k era LOL
Gaga did it "too". Trust me, she was far from "first".
@@LD-tn6ff yeah that's kind of what I meant, I'm not great with english lol
Katy Perry + Ava Max ❤
Katy Perry + CONSTANT-sample-queen?
Everyone criticizes Katy if she doesn't change her style and when she does, they also criticize her, she is obviously giving us what we all want, because she is an artist dedicated to the public, who makes you feel part of her project and always has a positive and empowering message. All that's left is to enjoy your music and visuals. Thank you
good points but please use a pop filter next time
thanks! I got one but tbh I aint gonna use it because I like holding the mic
