    It is extraordinarily easy to manipulate Democrat Party voters to believe anything they're told to believe. 5 weeks ago, they were told Joe Biden is a sharp as a tack. And they all defended that. Very obedient people.

      That's not true and in fact a lie. Many could see his decline both physically and mentally and are glad he did the right and noble thing to do for the country. Now let's see if the old mentally declining man in the R Party will do the same.
      As far being manipulated, how many Items have you bought off this grifter, how many Bibles, pieces of his suit, how much money has he conned you out of?

    I am deeply troubled by the number of people who think it's OK that Harris doesn't have a platform and that she should just ride the wave of aesthetic popularity through to November, including Nate. Do you not have any serious concerns that you want addressed before you give her this very important job? I know I do, and even as awful as Trump is, at least I can read where he stands. And yes, this was a subversion of democracy. It matters to left-leaning (now independent as of June) me.

      @universalsoldier2293 I too would like to see Harris get more specific, but the reason why the new non-Trump option has been surging in popularity over a short period of time is pretty simple. There are just too many people in this country that are way more concerned with Donald Trump (and his willingness to repeatedly and dangerously push alternate election results without any proof) than with Harris's lack of interviews in the first few weeks of her campaign.

      Price gouging is absolutely true. First, if trump had taken the virus seriously at the beginning instead of trying to "play it down" for his poll numbers and playing golf while tens of thousands died, maybe the outcome would have been different. As you might remember, people were dying, getting sick, not going to work, to the stores. Companies raised prices to compensate and continued, even now you can see their greed in smaller packages of food with either the same or higher price. But why is that a surprise, they have been doing that for years, life saving medications, medical equipment, hospital stays. And what does the Republicon Party of family values do to combat the greed, they give them more tax breaks.
      Don't blame Democrats, blame RepubliCONS and yourself for voting for these cons.

    It sounds like Nate Silver doesn't have a grasp on what Trump is when he says "Trump is pretty far to the right". Either that or Silver doesn't understand conservatives at all, which I suppose could be equally likely. If Silver doesn't understand one or both, then what value could he have in this interview?

    • @shaun7142
      @shaun7142 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      "Right" and "Left" are vague ideas to begin with but Conservatism is a vast range of ideas, and doesn't really mean much of anything on its own.
      Trump is a right wing populist, and it's not wrong to call him "far right".

    • @whistlingwind5900
      @whistlingwind5900 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@shaun7142 I'd like to make a point, but to do this I need to define "far to the right" in a political sense which should be obvious and logical. I know this is a leap since so much of the media disparages people who lean right in their politics, so much that somehow "far right" is equated to being a racist bigot. Even if this is the most common use of "far right", this really is nonsense. The most logical understanding of "far to the right" should be a political ideology that synergizes with longstanding, centuries long traditions common to American peoples through history. In more practical terms this means if a Protestant god says a thing is good, than that thing is good. It also means that people far to the right never want anything to change ever.
      I see though that the next step would be to state the positions of such an ideology and then show that Trump is so far removed from these positions that there is no way you could possibly associate him with this. This might actually take more effort than I would like to give.
      In any case, I'll just state that while Trump is himself not strongly ideological, the best way to describe him if you had to pin him down would be a Progressive Republican. In other words if you removed all of the political strategy that he wields as a politician and left him only with ideology, that is what would be left. Granted though that he is about 95% politician and about 5% ideologue, so this is removing almost everything that he is.
      Positionally Trump is very much on the left side of the Republican party. Populists like him, but that doesn't mean anything in this context. Populism isn't exclusive to either side of the political spectrum. It doesn't describe whether a person is more or less traditional in their policy preferences which really is what this is about.
      There is a point though that I will concede, though I'll concede it on my terms. It is easier to define purists, and being "far to the right" should logically be a purist position. Conservatism can contain a vast range of ideas as you say, however I quibble with this idea when it refers to a "far to the right" political ideology.

    • @shaun7142

      > It also means that people far to the right never want anything to change ever.
      No, that's extreme conservatism.
      Think about it this way, how would you categorize a right-wing anarchist?
      Most people would consider them "far right", as well as fascists (real ones), right-wing dictators, etc.
      > Populism isn't exclusive to either side of the political spectrum.
      Neither is conservativism.
      > There is a point though that I will concede, though I'll concede it on my terms. It is easier to define purists, and being "far to the right" should logically be a purist position.
      But there is no standard for the right-wing, even with your definition that doesn't actually encompass what the right-wing is.

      @@shaun7142 The original right wing party when this whole right/left idea was created were the French Royalists who wanted to reverse the reforms of the French Revolution and restore the House of Bourbon and the Catholic Church. So yes, the right is conservative in the sense that conservatism means "to preserve", or at least "to restore tradition". Extreme conservatism is logically what the far right represents. : the restoration of tradition, the restoration of traditional forms of order, ect. If *"Most people would consider them "far right", as well as fascists (real ones), right-wing dictators, etc."*, then most people are wrong.

      shaun7142: *"how would you categorize a right-wing anarchist?"*
      I think the question already did categorize them as right-wing, so I am not sure what more you would be looking for. Is right-wing meant as a pejorative in this question? Is it implied that this is the ideology of conspiracy nuts? Is it meant to suggest something that doesn't have much to do with where someone lies on a political spectrum?
      Anarchists generally come in two flavors. One flavor is of those who desire to overthrow the current order and replace it with another. Another flavor is those who want absolutely no government whatsoever. The second one, though naturally unrealistic as power vacuums never remain as power vacuums, has commonalities with American conservatism. This is only because American conservatism has its roots in limited government and federalism while American liberalism has for a long time been a Wilsonian behemoth. There still remain stark differences between conservatives and anarchists.
