As I lay here losing all my fluids from what is potentially the Norovirus, I am comforted by the knowledge that Rofothegyrm is ranting loudly at people about eldritch lore and Buildmaking while beating them in the head with the actual head of an space entity that is somehow also under the sea. One of my favourite spots in elden ring in terms of vibes is that beach behind the merchant's shack on the weeping peninsula. The desolate shoreline where it's always raining with all the broken boats and wandering corpses. I just wish there was one or two actually dangerous enemies there.
Same, if this wasn't in seamless I would probably invade from there, I just like standing in the water next to the Morne Moangrave for the vibes of letting the waves wash over me
Came for the lore nerd invader build. Stayed for the Pirate Souls discussion. God it would be so cool. They could draw from so many real world themes for it also. We already know they had considered some sort of Umibozu creature for Elden Ring from Zullie the Witch's video on it. But they could always go with standard Lovecraftian underwater cities and fishmen or maybe some Aztec/Mayan or other native inspired mythology with Conquistadors and all. That's a super unexplored ideas for a setting. No one can tell me that the idea of fighting some giant feathered serpent boss on a boat out in the ocean wouldn't be fucking sick.
love it. I have always felt like water is such a missing potential element that would make the game so much fun. And arcane int would have been so good for that path
BUBBLE!!!!!!! I have had SO much fun using Great Oracular Bubble on a weird rl60 arcane caster, using juuuuust enough faith for all the Bloodlfame stuff and int for the Bubble and Gavel.
Dude, I love the thought and commentary on the build. It's not often that folks make something non-standard and also creative that isn't some kind of meme or joke. My only criticism is that the last segment where you just ramble and rant on tenuously related stuff really could just be left silent and let us listen to sailing dirges and watch the rest of the pvp. I could really have done with less rambling, but I'm glad the algo popped this video into my recommends all the same. Keep up the interesting and fun stuff, brother.
Speaking of dark souls 2, just installed it again the other day because I felt like another playthrough, and I've got like 600hours in it. There's actually a standing riposte animation, it's really hard to time but hits even harder than the one where they fall down, and I'm just now learning about it xD
When Elden Ring says "cross the fog" they mean that literally and figuratively. You cross the foggy sea to the Lands Between. But you also venture into the unknown, the blinding fog, only to never return. Just like in Demon's Souls. In DeS, the Journey to the Nexus is even on a seaside fort. And the Lands Between are quite ethereal, too. Like a dream world, or the twilight world between life and death. Miyazaki doesn't like the sea, nor the ocean, no. But that's because the only thing beyond the coast is disorientation and death. The Portuguese sailors who journeyed to Japan would tell you, and Miyazaki, as much. The sea is the ultimate equalizer for Miyazaki. It does not discriminate, but it swallows all. Blessings, curses, life, death. Existence itself.
Really interesting build, but surely the Clayman's Harpoon would have been the weapon of choice here to stick to the build's theme. Although the Smithscript spear certainly works thematically too with the throwing mechanic. You might've put on the spear throw on the Harpoon for the same effect.
I considered it but I can't use Spectral Lance from Horseback. I also just have so much more control of when and how I throw these spears compared to Spectral Lance.

I think first I would start to work towards replacing the soreseals because at higher levels that 30% extra damage taken is going to add up. More STR and INT would likely be where I go from here most likely :)
Hope to see you out their fellow invader though I have my doubts because I play at higher rune levels and what a cool build ngl. I make character themed builds too but mine are a lot simpler. My most recent ones were a Shadowkeep Militiaman who uses the Night Calvary Halberd & Spirit Glaive with soft swapping and Carian Knight that uses carian sovereignty on a great katana. My next one I am thinking of making is another carian knight with moonveil and then use the carian greatsword/piercer combo which might be at a lower rune level like 80 or 90 if I can get it to work!
have you considered putting the arrows reach talisman on this build? it definitely helps and you will get much less 20 damage hits, especially from the smithscript spear.
