Malaysia: Babies For Sale | 101 East

  • "Boy, 3kg, $2000."
The online message, complete with photos of a tiny newborn, advertises an underground trade where babies are commodities worth thousands of dollars.
Malaysia is a hub for baby selling, with buyers able to choose their own baby based on gender, race and skin colour. Some babies are bought by couples desperate to start a family. Others are sold to traffickers and forced to become sex slaves or beggars.
101 East goes undercover in Malaysia, where babies are up for sale.

As a Malaysian, I've never heard about this problem ever before.
This is the problem when we don't have a thriving media due to govt censorship. So many things happen inside the country, but we only hear very little of it.

zabidi ahmad You think it has nothing to do possibly with the culture that creates an environment where women can't have babies out of wedlock and foreigners will deported if they get pregnant and where legal adoption is basically impossible? You think immigrants managed to set up this entire illegal industry with deep levels of political corruption with no help from the citizens of the country?
      Xenophobia is rampant everywhere.

Sad, isnt it? The mother goes on legal and honest route to have her status officialized. Yet JPN prefer those of the same situation to be choosing corrupted bastards like the Ghama doctors to have their children formally recognized. Like one of those authorized car dealership lol. 8 years and counting, still not Malaysian citizen because the mother refused to go to that "authorized car dealer".

In Malaysia, money is king. So if you have enough money, nothing is out of reach. This problem would've been settled if the woman would be willing to 'grease the palms' of the JPN official. It would be pretty expensive, but it would've been done quietly and fairly quickly out of view of anyone.
Another reason is pure laziness. There are allowances for special cases, but the officials really don't want to do this due to the paperwork and effort involved. In Malaysia, government positions are known as easy jobs, because they only need to do routine work and will be paid high with assured bonus once a year. There was really no need for them to work too hard. Heck, I once had a government position and my diligence was routinely brought down by the laziness and 'don't care' attitude of the more veteran government employees. I quickly left because I realized that I was becoming just like them.

Anyone you ask on the street can tell you that if you buy a puppy from a puppy mill, you will not stop the abuse and cruelty towards the puppies in those mills. The same principle applies here: You would only be feeding the human traffickers that abuse these children in that way.
You want to help those babies? Help mothers keep their babies in the first place! Help them out financially, that is often the only barrier parents and mothers face to keep their children. Help them by putting pressure on lawmakers to pass laws to protect them.
But don't go and participate in the trafficking. Because no child that you would do it to would thank you for it. After all, you would only have given their traffickers more money to do the same thing to more children.

    • @soulsunshine108

The adopted babies are actually not at a such a risk. If someone buys them, it is because they want them. Of course they will care for them after paying the so-called adoption fee and making them as their own child. It sounds like the ones who get sent to beg are the unwanted ones, basically abandoned and then trafficked, rather than sold. The issue is more that no woman should make the decision to give up a baby based on money. For some of the mothers, it seems worthwhile for what they get paid. And the middlemen are just sick, profiting on this madness.

The most dark side of this story is the mothers who are welling to sell their babies, these are hungry mothers, their hunger pushed them to sell their babies and even more, if you don't feed the poor the problem will continue. Try to find the roots of the problem. It was mentioned that Chinese babies are more expensive and difficult to find. Why? Because Chinese in Malaysia are in most more reach layer than the average. The most available babies are Indonesians and Filipinos because this is the poorest layer in Malaysia.

Malaysia's preferences for privilege as a condition for citizenship exacerbated the situation.

Yeah, we should just grant these babies automatic citizenship. That way, the baby sellers can charge more, because now the baby is also an automatic passport into the country.

i think youre confused: because that's the least of their problems..many of the trafficked babies and children, the ones who *don't* get rescued, get abused in many ways: sexually molested, they get disfigured in painful ways so when old enough they can be forced to be enslaved in working in begging rings/syndicates, they get ritually abused and or ritually murdered..too many horrible things to list them all here.

This is why we need adoption reform. We need better laws. We need to make adoption cheaper then $30-60k a child. If we lower costs, we make it harder for these type of people to do criminal activity because people wouldn’t have to come up with mass amounts of money to adopt a child. When people lack money and are desperate, these people will always have buyers. It’s truly sad and sickening.

this is why we need to change the government. we are not only corrupted in politic, but in everything. The corruption roots has gone too deep that this has been going on too long. not 1 year or 2.
this is why we need to vote for a change. we need a fresh government

What if the baby have infected with HIV or any other deases... pretty sure those seller wont even told anyone about it. Less demand would mean less business. No business could stop illegal human traffic.

It's 2020 and I am just watching this,
I DID NOT prepare my mind and heart for the horror I was about to encounter... My heart is pounding for those women and babies! It is agony that a life has been so disrespected and it's value calculated in $...
    I am speechless!
The entire time I am watching this, I want to just make it stop! I want something to be done, for the mothers and the babies...
I am praying for them! Desperately clinging to hope for a better future!

Mostly the babies are from immigrant workers such as Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam n others in Malaysia..not local people , maybe a few only from locals... cause the speaking slang of them sound differ from local .

It does not matter from where babies are. The point is that this is unacceptable to produce and sell babies in that way! What an ugly way of thinking and behaving.

I never knew about this in my own court but I heard about something similar. My mother's relative adopted a kid from a teenager with an unwanted pregnancy where they got the documents falsified like it was said in the video. The name on the birth certificate was changed.

I just watch a doc were babies are kidnapped and sold and it was heartbreaking so I'm torn by the fact these mothers are willingly selling the babies and the person in charge is providing shelter . on the on the other hand the babies can used for anything and that's sad as well .

It causes me to much anger, the sellers of the baby should be put in jail for life and the woman need to be sterilized so they can't have kids for the rest of their life, too!! Horrible! The children will be facing problems as they grow up and face the real world!
