My 07 GRIZZLY 700 was stored in the trailer for winter for about 3 months here up north in Canada and with no preparations I went in started it (given it was a bit of a ruff starting up) and let it idle for 10min and then pulled the cousins behind on some sleds, great day.
I bought mine new in 2007 when power steering was unheard of but everyone who rode mine at the time loved it. I still have it, 10,000km on it and the engine still runs like new - easy to tell with steep downhill engine braking, the thing still holds 5km/hr no matter how steep. I drowned it years ago and the power steering stopped working - haven’t felt compelled to replace it yet. Other than brakes (3rd set) and bearings (2nd set) it’s been fairly flawless. Still on original belt and bushings! I do mostly old logging road riding, they can be rough. Oddly I do have an issue with either the reverse or nuetral positioned switch, engine is cutting out on me when I turn right sharp, but that’s a cheap fix this spring, too busy on my yammicat this winter. Point is there is nothing compelling enough on the market for me to buy a new one, 4wd and belt systems are horrible on all except Suzuki and Yamaha, and these two bikes really haven’t changed at all. So my 07 is still current I guess. When Suzuki or Yamaha give us the twin I’ll look at upgrading then, as that would be a true upgrade.
North Country Boyz I’ve being saying this since Kawasaki put the Vtwin in the brute force! Honda and Yamaha just will not give there customers what we want!
Dre C. Ya true. The day they would give us a twin in the grizzly my Polaris days are gone. I don’t mind Polaris it’s a comfy ride and handles well. And the 850 twin has proven to me to be pretty reliable but Yamaha is like the top dog and with a twin it’s everything I want in an atv. I’ve had my eye on the Yxz side by side but they are pretty pricey
@@drec.134 Heck my family deals Yamaha and I stick with Polaris. If Honda and Yamaha did a little design work and offered even a vtwin 850 they would a heafty threat to both Polaris and CanAm. More so new riders than current riders...as most of us in our 30's+ are fairly brand loyal...however there is always room for a switch 😎
North Country Boyz ya they are clearing out some 2016 or 2017’s around here and the prices are really good very tempted to trade in my sportsman for one. I would like to keep the quad and get a yxz but not sure I can afford the room or cost of both haha. I hear ya on your above post though. I’m not brand specific I’ll buy what I think is best for me and the riding I do. Two years ago that was my sportsman 850sp and honestly it’s been a good atv. Very comfy to ride and loads of power. Only issues I had was stock tires were terrible and the stock seat lacked a bit of padding. I got it re done with added gel/foam haha
This is the best atv made IMO. Im one of the few guys who will admit a 700 single is all I need power wise in my atv. The trails are pretty tight and slow close to my place, the bigger faster atvs are only better on the fire roads which isn't a big deal to me. I have the 750 king quad because its cheaper than the grizz not better lol. How do you like the wide front zillas? I have 27x9x12 zillas on the front of my atv and wouldn't want anything wider, the last time I had wide front tires I didn't like em, they hit the sides of the ruts all the time yanking the atv around.
I know this is a year old review, but I wanted to chime in on my 2007 grizzly 700. I was brought to this looking for a 2019 SE (my favorite color is blue ;) Anyways... I have 1561 miles on my Grizzy with STOCK(!) front and rear brakes and CVT belt. I know that may not sound like much...but let me continue informing you of the mods I have done... Everything I have done has been optional except one item. I bent the rear drive axle doing some backward flips down a hill. 3 loops according to witnesses watching the lights flash. Wasn't any cosmetic damage, just the front corner bumper was mashed down 1 inch and in 2 inches. I replaced both rear axles with Gorilla heavy duty axles. Motor has been updated to high performance cam (HD5050), 105mm bore, +2.5mm crank shaft (5mm total travel), and MSD ignition (custom timing curves in program), PC5 fuel controller with auto tune, Barkers dual exhaust with quite core. All of that was done many miles ago around 0910-2011 time frame. It has gone from 686cc to 778cc and easily 60+ hp. I left the clutch work until last. I have had this apart so many times tuning it for lower gear and higher top end... My final setup on this was machining out the lower center to allow higher top end on compression. The grease seal on the outer ring I added 5-6 washers on each screw and replaced with extended hex head screws. This allowed lower starting ratio. With a warn winch on the front and the upgraded brush bumper I am able to sit still and simply "mash" the throttle and the front end comes off the ground when on pavement. No rocking, no second blip on the throttle...just press and on two wheels. Trails I can power slide the rear tires on any reasonable turn. Actually I can break the ITP Mud-lite (stock size) tires free anywhere from 0 to 25 on the trail with just the press of the throttle cable. What I'm getting at is all these mods have been done many years ago, plenty of power made, plenty of reliability, and no need for twin cylinder. I only use low range for any travels now as it runs 0 to 60 mph. ...and again Stock brakes and stock drive belt... never replaced in 1500+ miles with massive motor mods.
Good review DT ! hit all good points, especially the point that Yamaha needs to put a nice twin in the Grizz, the ol 700 single is getting long in the tooth now. Saying that I find the 700 to have plenty of power, great low end for trails and mud, and it will still go over 100klm/hr on the fire roads.
Love the 2019 grizz se!!! Great looking quad and the factory included extras are a definitely a bonus!!! I'm a die hard Honda fan... But this one might take the number one spot... All in all it's definitely making my choice harder to make!!!
I have 2 grizzlies a 450&700. They both have about 7000 miles of farm use spraying chasing cows. One day I passed a guy riding his Harley Davidson. The 700 will do 67 mph on the flat. Comfortable & reliable. Yamaha got it right.
I can do 70 in my sportsman 570... so far its been reliable besides rolling it 3 times. Cracked plastics and bent handlebars. I have about 800 miles in 1 year on it.
Why does every time I watch one of their videos they are always trying to get the Japanese to put twins in their units? I work at a power-sports company and let me tell you, extra cylinders mean extra headaches.
The point is this are riders that buy this ATVs for fun while Yamaha still sees there ATVs more or less as workforce vehicles like for pulling small trailers, farm equipment, emergency support vehicles, plowing and so on. There is no need to upgrade a mashine like this to 95 hp.
i still have the 2015 700 I bought new and i think that's amazing, although she's only got 800km's on her. i feel bad that i never have a chance to get out, but it feels nice to have such a great atv when i do find the time.
Bought a 2007 Grizz 700 new in late ‘06. While it never once saw snow, it was an amazing machine that I rode until 2016. 10 years with nothing but brakes, maintenance, and tires. Left the 4 wheeler scene two years ago when I sold the Grizzly and bought a new Polaris Rzr 1000. In just two years of very similar riding...(mild), the Rzr has been in the shop three times and not to mention fixes that I did myself. You can feel the difference in the quality. But with that said....this new Grizzly doesn’t look to be that much different than my ‘07.
I'm a firm believer in Honda... But the more I look the more I want this grizzly se in black... Great looking atv... And I'm confident of yamahas quality... So I think I might have a new favourite ... Good review guys... I'm sold!
Im ok with the 700 single. If i wanted a twin i would of bought that junk polaris. This is what i love about yamaha they keep things simple and reliable which is why i got rid of my brute force for my grizzly. The brute had more power but you cant beat the smoothness and reliability of the 700 single. I hope they keep it the same and make a sport twin to replace the banshee... it would be cool to see the old phazer 500 twin in a quad frame to bring the banshee back!!
Yamaha doesn't seem to care anymore about the consumer demands. I'd buy a Yamaha 1000 or 850 twin 4 wheeler in a heartbeat if available. Instead I bought a Polaris Sportsman 850. The same thing go for the snowmobiles. I ended up buying a Polaris Switchback Assault. My next sled will probably be the Polaris Assault with the 850 twin. My next ATV will be a Polaris 1000 once they come out with a "limited" edition.

Wow the "All new" 2009 ...erm, I mean 2019 Yamaha Grizzly... ya, Very exciting. Don't get me wrong, this is a stout ATV and the best in the business for reliability, but this is a 2016 Grizzly chassis with a 2007 engine, 14" wheels and few aftermarket accessories and some computer updates. Where's the 850 twin Grizzly we've been waiting a decade for?
Absolutely nowhere to be seen it will be another 5 years, hopefully not but they are going with what works which sucks because if i could get the grizzly with a can am 1000 motor i would but then again i am really loving the can am renegeade xmr1000 its alot nicer than the over priced non innovative grizzly.
I was waiting feverishly for Yamaha to upgrade the Grizz for 2019. They didn't. I've been waiting for a long time. So I went out and got a 2018 Polaris Sportsman 850 SP. And while I love it, and it's a blast to ride, I still want to see Yamaha up the ante for 2020. I'd probably still keep the Polaris and add the Yamaha along side it. The power on the Polaris is nice. But something tells me an 850 Grizz would feel a lot more powerful than an 850 Polaris.
Okay, I guess I'll ask the dumb question(s).... Is something bigger than 700cc REALLY needed? I mean, I guess if you are pulling a trailer or doing a LOT of plowing, but sheesh, do you guys REALLY need a 1000cc twin? In a SxS yeah, I get it, the things are heavy and need some more sac... I dunno, I guess I live a underwhelming life on my farm, with my 420 Rancher.
Its the whole Polaris/Can Am vs Honda/Yamaha debate. Would you rather own a bike that goes 40 MPH rides like shit and last 20 years or own a bike that does 80 MPH rides smooth and last 5 years? Import bikes are for old guys.
Those Zilla mud tires might work ok for pushing snow around with a plow, but if you want to use them for deep snow riding you're gonna need that winch.
Looking at this one but I got a 14 grizzly that’s been absolutely bulletproof everything I throw at it. Don’t think I’ll bite on this one not enough change to justify the money.
brianm195 buddy has a 14 grizzly 450. Sounds bad but don’t change the oil and rarely any maintenance and things runs like brand new. Could say grizzlys are just reliable if not more reliable than Honda quads
Machine this machine is totally awesome I only one I bought a new one last year love the grizzly great unit by side Polaris I've had other units nothing compares to this grizzly
Best 700 out there. Now it's time to get out there and build the bikes more riders want. I want to give my 2012 700 to my 12 year old and get a 850 at the very least for myself but want to stay with Yamaha so hopefully they hurry the hell up.
How many years now have you, and other's call for larger twin cylinder displacement gone unanswered by Yamaha??? I was always a Yamaha fan, but when it came time to buy a new ATV I looked elsewhere as the old 700 just doesn't do it for me with all of the offerings from everyone else. Hell, the Polaris 570 nearly matches the 700 in HP! Come on Yamaha, you make great products but its time for an upgrade!
killercanary95GT Yamaha focuses on their mx and road bikes unfortunately more then atv. Hell their snowmobiles have made huge leaps and strides vs his grizzly which really deserves an updated engine

Shadow Assassin as I said, I am a fan of Yamaha, hell I still have a 1991 Warrior that my parents bought for me brand new way back. Other than a carb rebuild and replacing wear items it have never missed a beat. That said, there is NO reason in this day and age that they, or the others you mention, can't make a reliable 1000cc machine. All machines break down at some point. We have three grizzlies in our group and all three have been towed out of the woods on more than one occasion. One was an engine failure, the other was a transmission failure, the other was just a tie rod and then a lower ball joint. The design of the mounting location of the front strut to lower A arm is the dumbest I have seen. The ball joint literally has downward spring pressure on it at all times trying to rip the ball out of its socket.

Yamaha should make a 1000cc atv and since they’re about bears they should call it the polar cause you know polar bears are the biggest of all bears. And the should make a 1000cc quad and since there’s a raptor they should call it the trex or Rex
I mean.... Why not get something that is ACTUALLY new for 2019? Can am and Polaris have been beating each other up over power, reliability, and new features. This ancient single mill 700 needs to be updated to a twin 850 or SOMETHING along those lines. Yamaha and Honda are just sleeping giants that have been dead since the early 2000s. Honda is finally coming around a bit with the new Talon, and Yamaha too with the 1 YXZ 1000, but in the ATV Market, the Scrambler and Renegade will reign supreme for the cross of 4x4 utility and blazing fun. Thats the reason I bought my 1000XXC Recently. Love the bike, and am waiting patiently for Honda and Yamaha to do the same.
Still bombing around with a 2004 660 (no PS) and had it set up the way this 2019 Grizzly is set-up. Too bad i took Yamaha so long to figure this out, the probably lost some sales along the way. Suggesting that they add a 2 cylinder engine to the line-up makes sense. It would be good to know what a 2 cylinder offers over a 1 cylinder.
Just get a sport quad if want more power. Something like this you want reliability. A 10-15 year old design means it's proven reliability. How quick or fast do you really need to go on a utility atv ?
One additional comment. If you've ever ridden a 350 twin cylinder two stroke banshee- based on the old RD road bike platform sport quad that's now 20 plus years old, you're bewildered to understand Yamaha's reluctance to introduce a new twin cylinder four stroke thumper to the Grizzly platform.
I know this video is 2 years old but I have a question about these Grizzlies. Right now there is currently a $1600 difference between a 700 EPS and a 700 EPS SE, what else is included in the SE package besides 27s and different colour schemes?
At least the Yamaha is more up to date then the Rincon lol. They both need beefed up motors to make ppl happy. They dont need to be anything ridiculous just more then the out dated motors they have now
I love these videos. I'm going to buy one of these soon. I'd rather have reliability and I doubt I'd ever really need anything over a 700. My 2008 500 Arctic Cat does grunt a little while going up big hills or pushing a 60" snow plow. Does a small windshield really do anything? I always had the larger ones on my motorcycles.
So how is the 686 vs the 708? Much difference? Is the 686 tuned up more than it used to be? I’m not planning on buying one. Just curious. My 550 is still going strong and has been very capable. My next orv will more than likely be the X2. I agree with the other guys that the 850 would be a beast in a Grizzly.
Nice looking bike, and they are heading in the right direction but they'll have to do better than that to get me to buy another one. Besides my 2000 Kodiak 400 is still going strong lol..
My first two atv's where yamaha but i soon left the brand for a twin and im glad i did. Yamah has lost millions on not giving us what we want and for this I will probably never go back to a yamaha.
Old motor, new tires, heated grips all for 2k more than a Sportsman 850.. I'd save the money and put it into the Sportsman that has 33 more HP. I say that as a HUGE fan of the Grizz.. But if we want Yammie to put an 850 in it, we have to give them a reason to.. nothing says "build it for me" like buying from the competition instead...
I have been out of the loop for 20 years and now just bought a 2 up Outlander. Would have bought a Grizzly, or Honda, but they don't offer a 2 up model. Does anyone know why?
My local dealer (BC Canada) told me it had to do with import laws, and the fear of law suits. I was in the same boat, and bought a 2018 can am 570 max xt. Would have stayed with a yamaha but wanted a 2up.

The Dubya I would of it last me 15 years plus with only oil change still got my 06 Yamaha.. now I would not pay 10k plus for some that brakes the first year and goes threw belts all the time hint can am and Polaris
Im keeping my 14 grizzly until the wheels fall off then will probably be looking at something with a vtwin like a polaris or can am....unless yamaha quits playing around and puts a vtwin engine in their 4x4 atvs! Listen to your customers!
Lol. The only thing Yamaha done for 2020 is they took his exact four wheeler and change the name from special edition grizzly to special edition Kodiak they look identical they only change the name.
i"ll take the dead reliable single cylinder grizzly any day over a can-am or polaris , and yes i own a 2007 grizzly and a 2014 can am 800, grizzly is twice the machine in reliability , from engine to electronics to drive belts.
The 1cyl Yamahas are still selling good and they see this! 2 cyl yeah , 3 cyl yeah , 4 cyl. F- yeah ! I think it will be this engine with electric motors and partners with Tesla ?!?!?
I've never been in an argument with a Honda owner before. Kind of hard to when you both go out riding hard and come back at the end of the day. Normally towing a Can Am or Polaris back🤣😂
Very true they all have their place the Polaris and the canned hams lol are great and fun and if I had the money I would have 1 of each but there’s something about ur machine never breaking that is just so nice

I bought a 2011 420 rancher new 8 years ago. Thinking I ride it a few years and trade it in for something better later on down the road. Well I've NEVER had a single issue with it. I can't bring my self to sell it. So I went and bought a 700 raptor Se. Now me and my wife go 4 wheeling every weekend . She takes the Honda and of course take the Yamaha both are incredibly reliable. Now that our kids are old enough to ride we are now looking for a few smaller atv's just as reliable for my 4 girls. Also a bigger trailer to haul them.
I have a yamaha outboard, yamaha snowmobile and had a yamaha dirt bike. I was hoping they would have got their act together and brought out an 850 quad by now. Guess its time to lose the brand loyalty and go elsewhere

Im ok with the 700 single. If i wanted a twin i would of bought that junk polaris. This is what i love about yamaha they keep things simple and reliable which is why i got rid of my brute force for my grizzly. The brute had more power but you cant beat the smoothness and reliability of the 700 single. I hope they keep it the same and make a sport twin to replace the banshee... it would be cool to see the old phazer 500 twin in a quad frame to bring the banshee back!!
Yamaha doesn't seem to care anymore about the consumer demands. I'd buy a Yamaha 1000 or 850 twin 4 wheeler in a heartbeat if available. Instead I bought a Polaris Sportsman 850. The same thing go for the snowmobiles. I ended up buying a Polaris Switchback Assault. My next sled will probably be the Polaris Assault with the 850 twin. My next ATV will be a Polaris 1000 once they come out with a "limited" edition.

Wow the "All new" 2009 ...erm, I mean 2019 Yamaha Grizzly... ya, Very exciting. Don't get me wrong, this is a stout ATV and the best in the business for reliability, but this is a 2016 Grizzly chassis with a 2007 engine, 14" wheels and few aftermarket accessories and some computer updates. Where's the 850 twin Grizzly we've been waiting a decade for?
Absolutely nowhere to be seen it will be another 5 years, hopefully not but they are going with what works which sucks because if i could get the grizzly with a can am 1000 motor i would but then again i am really loving the can am renegeade xmr1000 its alot nicer than the over priced non innovative grizzly.

I was waiting feverishly for Yamaha to upgrade the Grizz for 2019. They didn't. I've been waiting for a long time. So I went out and got a 2018 Polaris Sportsman 850 SP. And while I love it, and it's a blast to ride, I still want to see Yamaha up the ante for 2020. I'd probably still keep the Polaris and add the Yamaha along side it. The power on the Polaris is nice. But something tells me an 850 Grizz would feel a lot more powerful than an 850 Polaris.

I mean, I guess if you are pulling a trailer or doing a LOT of plowing, but sheesh, do you guys REALLY need a 1000cc twin? In a SxS yeah, I get it, the things are heavy and need some more sac... I dunno, I guess I live a underwhelming life on my farm, with my 420 Rancher.
For 13,000 for a 700 grizzly it makes sense to get an 850

Those Zilla mud tires might work ok for pushing snow around with a plow, but if you want to use them for deep snow riding you're gonna need that winch.
Looking at this one but I got a 14 grizzly that’s been absolutely bulletproof everything I throw at it. Don’t think I’ll bite on this one not enough change to justify the money.
brianm195 buddy has a 14 grizzly 450. Sounds bad but don’t change the oil and rarely any maintenance and things runs like brand new. Could say grizzlys are just reliable if not more reliable than Honda quads

Best 700 out there. Now it's time to get out there and build the bikes more riders want. I want to give my 2012 700 to my 12 year old and get a 850 at the very least for myself but want to stay with Yamaha so hopefully they hurry the hell up.
How many years now have you, and other's call for larger twin cylinder displacement gone unanswered by Yamaha??? I was always a Yamaha fan, but when it came time to buy a new ATV I looked elsewhere as the old 700 just doesn't do it for me with all of the offerings from everyone else. Hell, the Polaris 570 nearly matches the 700 in HP! Come on Yamaha, you make great products but its time for an upgrade!
killercanary95GT Yamaha focuses on their mx and road bikes unfortunately more then atv. Hell their snowmobiles have made huge leaps and strides vs his grizzly which really deserves an updated engine

Shadow Assassin as I said, I am a fan of Yamaha, hell I still have a 1991 Warrior that my parents bought for me brand new way back. Other than a carb rebuild and replacing wear items it have never missed a beat. That said, there is NO reason in this day and age that they, or the others you mention, can't make a reliable 1000cc machine. All machines break down at some point. We have three grizzlies in our group and all three have been towed out of the woods on more than one occasion. One was an engine failure, the other was a transmission failure, the other was just a tie rod and then a lower ball joint. The design of the mounting location of the front strut to lower A arm is the dumbest I have seen. The ball joint literally has downward spring pressure on it at all times trying to rip the ball out of its socket.

I mean.... Why not get something that is ACTUALLY new for 2019? Can am and Polaris have been beating each other up over power, reliability, and new features. This ancient single mill 700 needs to be updated to a twin 850 or SOMETHING along those lines. Yamaha and Honda are just sleeping giants that have been dead since the early 2000s. Honda is finally coming around a bit with the new Talon, and Yamaha too with the 1 YXZ 1000, but in the ATV Market, the Scrambler and Renegade will reign supreme for the cross of 4x4 utility and blazing fun. Thats the reason I bought my 1000XXC Recently. Love the bike, and am waiting patiently for Honda and Yamaha to do the same.
Still bombing around with a 2004 660 (no PS) and had it set up the way this 2019 Grizzly is set-up. Too bad i took Yamaha so long to figure this out, the probably lost some sales along the way. Suggesting that they add a 2 cylinder engine to the line-up makes sense. It would be good to know what a 2 cylinder offers over a 1 cylinder.

Just get a sport quad if want more power. Something like this you want reliability. A 10-15 year old design means it's proven reliability. How quick or fast do you really need to go on a utility atv ?

Just make a new model based off the same platform with a 850 or bigger. The grizzly is almost perfect the way it is
This is why it is reliable, dump a twin with 90 hp in it that reliability goes south same as the the other big boys. Yamaha is smart don’t worry.
One additional comment. If you've ever ridden a 350 twin cylinder two stroke banshee- based on the old RD road bike platform sport quad that's now 20 plus years old, you're bewildered to understand Yamaha's reluctance to introduce a new twin cylinder four stroke thumper to the Grizzly platform.
I know this video is 2 years old but I have a question about these Grizzlies. Right now there is currently a $1600 difference between a 700 EPS and a 700 EPS SE, what else is included in the SE package besides 27s and different colour schemes?

I love these videos. I'm going to buy one of these soon. I'd rather have reliability and I doubt I'd ever really need anything over a 700. My 2008 500 Arctic Cat does grunt a little while going up big hills or pushing a 60" snow plow. Does a small windshield really do anything? I always had the larger ones on my motorcycles.

So how is the 686 vs the 708? Much difference? Is the 686 tuned up more than it used to be? I’m not planning on buying one. Just curious. My 550 is still going strong and has been very capable. My next orv will more than likely be the X2.

My first two atv's where yamaha but i soon left the brand for a twin and im glad i did. Yamah has lost millions on not giving us what we want and for this I will probably never go back to a yamaha.

Old motor, new tires, heated grips all for 2k more than a Sportsman 850.. I'd save the money and put it into the Sportsman that has 33 more HP. I say that as a HUGE fan of the Grizz.. But if we want Yammie to put an 850 in it, we have to give them a reason to.. nothing says "build it for me" like buying from the competition instead...

It's missing a second cylinder and increased bore diameter to 1Litre. A twin 1,000cc 110 horse beast is what the people want.
I have been out of the loop for 20 years and now just bought a 2 up Outlander. Would have bought a Grizzly, or Honda, but they don't offer a 2 up model. Does anyone know why?
My local dealer (BC Canada) told me it had to do with import laws, and the fear of law suits. I was in the same boat, and bought a 2018 can am 570 max xt. Would have stayed with a yamaha but wanted a 2up.

Yes, the Subaru built 708 has officially been discontinued. It was having trouble meeting emission standards.

i"ll take the dead reliable single cylinder grizzly any day over a can-am or polaris , and yes i own a 2007 grizzly and a 2014 can am 800, grizzly is twice the machine in reliability , from engine to electronics to drive belts.

I bought a 2011 420 rancher new 8 years ago. Thinking I ride it a few years and trade it in for something better later on down the road. Well I've NEVER had a single issue with it. I can't bring my self to sell it. So I went and bought a 700 raptor Se. Now me and my wife go 4 wheeling every weekend . She takes the Honda and of course take the Yamaha both are incredibly reliable. Now that our kids are old enough to ride we are now looking for a few smaller atv's just as reliable for my 4 girls. Also a bigger trailer to haul them.
I have a yamaha outboard, yamaha snowmobile and had a yamaha dirt bike. I was hoping they would have got their act together and brought out an 850 quad by now. Guess its time to lose the brand loyalty and go elsewhere
