  • The 2024 Kia Soul continues its reign as the quirkiest yet coolest econobox on the market, with an undeniable fun factor front and center. It carries over for 2024 largely unchanged, with the base LX starting around $21,500, the S trim around $24,000, the sporty GT Line at $25,100 and the EX trim clocking in just under $26,000. All trims come with the same peppy yet turbo-free 2.0L 4-cylinder engine pumping out 147hp and 132lb ft of torque. AWD isn’t available, and every engine is mated to a smooth CVT.
Inside is where the Soul really shines; the interior cargo and passenger space is ridiculous, with up to 62.1 cubic feet of space with the rear seats down. Legroom and headroom are plentiful, and you’ll be amazed at how spacious this subcompact truly feels. Kia also stuff tons of tech and standard safety features in the Soul, from a sleek dash and integrated textured door inserts to a crystal clear center touch screen and an all digital gauge cluster. In that cluster, by the way, you can customize nearly everything you see as the driver, including the number of FLASHES the turn signal makes with a single whack of the stalk (3, 5 or 7 flashes available!).
Higher trims come with optional ambient lighting, a smartphone charging pad, head-up display, push-button ignition with keyless entry, heating for the seats and steering wheel. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the board. On the road, the Soul has plenty of exactly that; handling isn’t superb, but the car does offer enough “thrill” to keep you from feeling bored. The ride is rather comfortable and refined for the money. The once “hamster car” is a winner in our eyes - what do you think?!

How is it going through mountains? Like Western Maryland.

It definitely loses battery faster in mountains and through inclines. The good news is: you GAIN range when you go down the hills on the other side, so it sort of evens out in the end.

Missing options AWD- a real transmission and roof rails-Chevy Trax a better option for the money

The Trax doesn’t offer AWD and only gets roof rails standard on the upper 3 trims and the Soul has them as inexpensive dealer add ons The Souls IVT is nicer than the 6 speed found in the Trax. Also, the Soul is quicker with the same or better mileage and doesn’t need a turbo. Plus, the 3 cylinder engines for Chevy are having loads of quality issues from what I read and people I’ve spoken with. The Soul also has more cargo space that’s better on flexibility. It’s also been out way longer and has a considerably better warranty. The Trax is not the better buy. If you feel that AWD is a necessity, get the Trailblazer or the Seltos. After driving them , I’m going with the Soul. Stay Frosty ✌️

Model come with 18 inch wheels, led turn signals on the rear view mirrors, and a sports car driving wheel while the most expensive model has none of these features and you can't even purchase them for that model?
