Mid Night Club Still Exists: Exclusive Look Inside Auto Garage TBK

- This one has been a long time coming. Auto Garage TBK is a famous name in the history of the Mid Night club, legendary even, and I was just waiting for the right moment to head down to their shop in Yokohama to indulge in their history.
I take a look at the shop, the history, the memorabilia and talk to Takahashi-san about what being a member of the Mid Night club was all about and how the design of his unmistakable front bumpers came to be. The best part was taking a close look at his 930 Turbo demo car slash wangan warrior, as well as a special 964 that has just been completed.

When a banner pops up on your phone stating "Midnight club still exists"- everything is put on hold
^this. Even sleep.
Yup you are right my friend
Dont spill the beans everything going mainstream today this need to stay away from the fukkboys
I was going to sleep but now I have wake turbulence
What happened as soon as I saw it xD
Imagine living there and not even knowing the significance of this building, just seeing all these amazing cars
that van was polite
Japanese are possibly the most extremely respectful people in the world. Also can see by how clean their streets are and how well their infrastructure is built. The Japanese culture is a chefs kiss 👌
Perfect example of the Japanese people is when you stand in the middle of the road to film an intro and the driver just stops and waits for you. No horn honking,no revving,no finger flying,no yelling, just sitting patiently. I love Japan
Omg I was just gonna comment this. I do this too in America, and I back up when people are crossing at a red light and people around me look at me like I'm crazy 😂
I have two guesses:
1) Fella knew who Dino was (nearly 100K subs, OG in the scene, known associate of Larry Chen - not that implausible)
2) Fella had no idea WTF was going on and was too confused to be mad. Not every day you get people filming pieces to camera in the middle of the street lol
A lot of countries should take note but if they could read they'd be offended.
Shouldn’t keep them waiting though.
Still shouldn't be blocking the road for a dude there
insanely high quality documentary work here.. all for free. thanks man, you're a legend.
Thank you 🙏🏻
What’s truly amazing isn't the top speed, but the soul in every picture from back then. I’m indifferent to Bugatti, but the stories of the Mid Night club, the tuner shops, and their craftsmanship are captivating. That unique "black magic" is gone now; those guys were like explorers, while today everything is about efficiency.
I have Mad RESPECT for the Mid Night Club Members.
1:05 There's a Tvr Griffith just sat in a garage as he walks past and he didn't even notice it :)
Oh I noticed it… left it in there for you guys to notice it 😉
The polite Japanese driver in the van patiently waiting during the intro while Dino is standing in the middle of road in the US minimum honking swearing hand gestures possibly just run over lol vs Japan van just waits quietly through entire intro
I did bow and apologise lol
Having this level of access to OG workshops and people is such a privilege.
I have the first, new, tbk hood in the states for the bnr32! I met Takahashi san last year and he was so kind and welcoming. My favorite shop in the world by far!
Awesome guy indeed!
Dino + Mid Night. = stop what you’re doing and watch. ❤
1:38 Dino, I bet that van driver wishes his vehicle was louder at that moment, huh? lol. Very patient people over in Japan! Love it.
Here for the beard.
Takahasi san is the spirit of real car culture
Japan's a great time capsule . I wish I could experience that era of Mid Night
Hopefully we will soon see the Yoshida special 930 in one of your videos....
Auto Garage TBK and Mid Night Club is responsible for a majority of the love people have for JDM cars/culture. There's so much soul and character that can't be replicated anymore. That just adds more to their legendary status. To this day, anything that has their names in it that comes up, I'll watch/read it all. Thanks for the video, Dino!
Just felt like Sharing, I was watching this since I'm a big fan of the midnight club and JDM cars in general, as I was watching I got the call from the truck driver bringing me my JDM Mitsu Colt Ralliart Ver R, he said he was 15 mins out, I jumped in my car and took delivery came back and kept watching this. (I'm in Canada BTW)
Also thanks Dino for showing us in great details the more closed knit JDM Car culture aspects
Glad you liked it it!
Hearing from the man himself that Midnight is still alive is wonderful. It never died, it just moved off the streets and onto the track.
those re my favorite videos he makes when he goes to shops factories etc in Japan .. drifting event goes second
Here it is my favorite Warhammer40 k commenter I haven't spot you in a while dude what's up .
If I ever want the authentic experience while in my pajamas, it’s your content and chronicles. 👍🤓💯
I had no idea Promodet was also affiliated with Mid Night like that, that is crazy
What a sound what a SOUND in that Air cooled monster !!
It's not just a legend, it's real and still active. Amazing to see these stories come to surface and be documented.
I think it's amazing how well researched it is. I'd like to see the history of street drag in Japan next. Most Porsche tuners were also private L-type tuners in the past.
As someone that is just getting into learning about the JDM world (even though I'm 50 and grew up seeing all those cars in magazines and stuff, I was never into them) I so appreciate the videos that you, Larry and Dustin do showing and telling all of the history. It would be so cool to see you and Larry collaborate on a JDM book compiling the history that you guys have shown in your videos and pics of the all the "classic" JDM garages and their history.
This video is an amazing showcase of what in essence the foundation of today's car culture was. Very cool!
I was last august in Japan and also went to takahashi-san and even bought some merch from them. Great guys!
Dude, I am a dedicated lurker on TH-cam, but this video was SO good I had to let you know how much I enjoyed it. This was a freaking INSANELY good video dude. The cinematography, the pacing, the audio, and not to mention just getting used to access to this stuff!! Freakin nuts. SUBSCRIBED
Thanks so much and welcome aboard!
I like long race/drive because my parents love to travel. The longest drive that I've experienced is about 12 hours. As I grew up I watch endurance race. From Daytona to Le Mans. At the same time I wonder, can a sport cars maintaining maximum top speed for extended period of time? And I introduced to Midnight Club. I never wanted to own a 911 or a R32 so bad ever in my life. They really spark my interest on cars even more and I'm still that kid till this day.
What an absolute legend, thank you for the opportunity to see inside this history.
Dino Dc my number 1️⃣ car channel its The best.
JWW, none the less. Flawless
I love how this guy is happy to talk about his history. Really grateful you have gone to the trouble to get out there and manage to interview him in such a professional and respectful manor that allows him to feel comfortable discussing his past. Shame he didn’t give you a spin! Thanks
Wonderful production Dino! I think a lot of us have been eager for this type of exploration of Mid Night.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Fantastic work. Thank you for covering this in such a thorough and respectful way instead of being all sensationalist and "TH-camr" about it. I wish more car channels were this classy! I've been a fan for many years Dino, since seeing your stuff on Speedhunters back in like 2009 or something. Thank you for your hard work!
Very happy to hear that, appreciate the long following 🙏🏻
Peak Mid Night was cool and all but I’m glad everyone’s grown up and taken their racing to the track.
May the algorithm gods bless this man because his content is top tier.
Thanks man 🙏🏻

@@dino_dc moltissimo
Glad to see content on the history of the midnight club and their relevancy to car culture and where they’re going in the present and future. Also love seeing shops like this in neighborhoods with residential above. It’s my dream to have a place like this. Reminds me of going to Yokohama to visit Obata San of Refresh60 and scouring the neighborhood to find him. Remember him seeing me and stop working and put out chairs and drinks and talk about car culture in Japan and states. Remember the second visit he saw me and said Ha took the train again. Miss those interactions
It's amazing to think how these guys literally changed car culture around the world 🎉
The shop memorabilia is so inspirational, I want my home to look like that
Beautiful…. That’s literally heaven on earth.. so much history and amazing work
Thank you Dino for getting us a view into this place. Very cool.

the upside down speedo is an insane touch. niceeee.
Great video all around Dino. Especially the sit down interview and subtitles. Top tier production
This was an unexpected treat. 😁👌🏾
I know you are talking of doing a RWB conversion to your Porsche but I think you should go in this direction. This is next level. Bravo!
Exclusive world premier content 😮
I remember years ago there were lots of videos about Mid Night popping up and I had a bit of an (unhealthy) obsession remaking every car I could find on my games as accurately and as detailed as possible. Even some of the ones shown in here like the Samstag Abend RX7 or the pink R33, to more obscure ones I’ve seen like a 5 series BMW, Advan NSX, and I believe there was a Pontiac Trans Am as well. I just love seeing people put so much time and effort into every aspect of something they like; such as cars in this case. If I somehow ever get a 1990 Porsche Carrera 4 or a new 992 GT3 Touring; I will 100% be trying to contact these guys for a kit or tune, or my own homage of some sort.
Edit: My personal favorite is the Z32 at 11:14 or the light blue Porsche 911 shown at 11:39 (that exact picture was my Lock Screen background for years until I changed it).
What a magnificient piece! Thx Dino and Garage TBK!
This is the best thing on youtube. Golden era Euro knowledge, Japanese knowledge, no gaps. Great taste, so good.

It's amazing that these guys were doing this out of passion back in the 90's. After 40 years I bet they didn't know that what they accomplished is legendary outside Japan.
This might be my favorite video you’ve done. Amazing. Such a legendary team and cars. Loved it Dino, good job brother!!! 🔥 this is for the real OG fanboys!
Glad you liked it!! Thank you 🙏🏻
Love the look inside TBK and specifically the Porsche 964. Cant wait for the driving video! Keep up the good work.
thanks dino for this amazing video- i've always been a fan of their body kits but didnt know how involved they were in the mid night club!
Great video, I drove a stock 930 turbo a couple of times and it was a beast, could only imagine how a modified one drives.

ポルシェオーナーは原宿の竹下通りにクレープを食べに行ってる
Great feature Dino 😎Thanks for the insight
I was about to sleep...but here we are. 😂😂
It turns out that any mention of Yoshida is taboo? Forbidden topic? Am I right?
