The game code treats all varieties of *Nuka Cola* as _chems,_ as well as *pre-war food,* *raw meat,* *veggies* and *wild veggies,* too. Therefore, taking the *_CHEMIST_* perk _increases_ the amount they heal. The game classifies “irradiated” as chems. Enjoy. With the 50% heal buff magazine, an Ice Cold Nuke Cola Quantum heals 2,400 hp or so, with max Ranks of Chemist.

@@ReapeeRon it's the best charisma Chem in the game, +3 makes a huge difference on most Speech checks. For survival daytipper is essential, that and a suit are always in my back pocket 🤣
Charisma boosters are top shelf, because you will never fail a speech check with 11 CHR. Jet Fuel gets bumped up due to it being the only long lasting Jet chem, for when you get addicted. Med-X is excellent, since there’s no other in-game poison resist. Mirelurk Queen spit is as deadly to Power Armor as it is to Naked Guy. Psychotats is excellent because you get DR, unlike Psychobuff. A primer on how to stack chems would’ve been nice. Decisions on what to take might be based on what can stack. (Edit: Poisoner’s Armor Legendary effect.)
Antibiotics and Herbal Remedies don't appear outside of Survival Mode and there are no illnesses on other difficulties. Berry Mentats highlights every enemy and NPC, robots included. Buffjet is pretty crap as the secondary effects only last for as long as the slow time does. Grape Mentats are very easy to craft and let you buy OP items early. The whole point of Overdrive is to have crits outside of VATS, it has no effect on regular crits.
I always try to keep at least a couple grape mentats and a suit or dress on me if I'm playing a low charisma character. That instant plus seven charisma is enough to reliably pass almost any speech check in the game no matter how low your base charisma is. Throw on a formal hat and black rimmed glasses and you can get one charisma character all the way up to ten for the purpose of speech checks.
Recently discovered your channel because I'm on another Fallout bender and I've been watching your videos like every night before bed. Haha keep it up man, your hard work is much appreciated.
Hey Ron and greetings from Finland! A brand new member here, I found your channel about a week ago while I was searching for FONV content. Great videos, keep up the good work! 👍
Hello Nightfall! Welcome to the channel, that is very kind of you! I have not yet been to Finland but if it is anything like Denmark then it is a very lovely place to visit!
One thing to consider about chems that give you big negatives, or if their addicted status does. Idk if they fixed it or not, but you were able to use them to boost your stats above 10. So you'd stack debuffs from chems and chem addictions for like -7 strength, put perk points into it up to 10 then heal at a doc and boom, permanent 17 strength, that can be further boosted by items and other chems.
About Calmex Silk, the stealth attack multiplier is additive not multiplicative. Also using the chem on survival mode will advance your dehydration by around 3 stages so if you want to use it you're going to have to drink up to 6 purified waters. Still a very strong chem but be warned.
I believe the mysterious serum is limited if you kill Lorenzo. If you free him, he'll occasionally give you one when you talk to him, but if you kill him, you get a unique variant of the Gamma gun.
Daytripper might not be that great as a drug but it is awesome when trying to build up your settlements due to the charisma increase since the amount of settlers you can have at each location is based on your charisma score and is one of the only 3 drugs that increase charisma and they stack the others being x-cell(extremely hard to get worse than daytrippers) and grape mentats which are easy to make.
Very timely. I'm around mid game on a druggie character right now. She eats the various buff out, jet, psycho blends like it's an open buffet. And thanks to Party Girl she's drunk 24/7. There are 2 X-cel in the Concord Speakeasy and I always make sure to grab them to help with early skill checks that I might not otherwise pass.
I think the grape mentats are actually underrated, the better prices are not that good I can agree with that, but they almost guarantee that you will pass any speech check. That's whatbI use them for exclusively lol
It can definitely help early game getting a good weapon, if you need to buy overseers or an equivalent forking out 10k caps is hard and you can raise the price of everything you’re selling to counteract that.
My first thought after looking at this is that there should have been a Psycho Jet tier. No need to beat around the bush, it's the best chem for combat in general and it's not close.
It's actually better to take psychobuff and jet sepererately, you will get bigger buffs and you will get them for longer. Psychojet is the noob bait chem.
I remember the mysterious serum glitching in my first playthrough, and the effect would just keep resetting itself for some reason. I don't know what caused this, neither could I replicate the glitch on any other playthrough. But hey, permanent strength, damage resistance, and the ability to negate radiation was nice
Bloodied builds are starting to find their way into fallout 4. If you're focusing on a low hp/high rads build then the sludgepaks are just a damn good cherry on top of a already high damaging sundae.
Only chem I ever find myself using much is grape mentats because I usually go straight to nuka world at level 1 and need them to pass the speech check to get the problem solver to have any hope of clearing the dlc
I always live on a combo of Bufftats, Psychobuff and Ultra Jet for the best of all worlds. Easy to have infinite uptime on bufftats and psychobuff too with how long they last. I also use Jet Fuel with the others, but it is more a quality of life than anything. And unlike the other chems it is basically free to craft and it lasts just as long as bufftats and psychobuff too.
Daytripper is solid if you're bartering, and it isn't that bad being overencumbered temporarily if you're bartering with a stationary merchant, even in survival modes.
Mentats are essential to having a 99 Charisma with the debuff stacking glitch. Top tier chem. Paired with the You're Special book dupe glitch is pretty broken.
Of course, Australia is being a crybaby about drug names in a game or you can blow people up and about 30 different animations be a slaver and a bunch of other stuff but it turned out to be a rare win because the names are iconic
So dumb newbie question here. But you mentioned skill checks several times such as for computer hacking. But isnt fallout 4's system of those based on how many skill points you've put into that skill and not special stat bonus? For example if I have only novice in lock picking but have an advanced lock in front of me. I thought it wasn't possible to pass the check no matter how high I boost any relevant special stat to the check. I'm still at level NOVICE so therefore taking any drug wont help. Am I wrong?
You are right about that. I meant this when talking to characters. I might have said that thinking of the hacking and lock picking thinking of fallout 3 and NV.
Addictol might be the best and worst because you'll still have the active benefits of the drug you were just addicted to. Realistically a chem fiend can abuse any drug with out ever experiencing side effects.
Lots of these are great for melee builds. I mostly just focused on the strength stat itself to increase from chems, but fury is just too damn fun. It gets really cracked when you factor in sneak attack multipliers. But if you do let me advise you to first get Deacon's companion perk, then get the ninja perk. Oh and maybe use the blitz and rooted perks too.
I think I’ve seen Calmex once in the 700hrs I’ve played Fallout 4. I forget it exists tbh. I love Overdrive. Makes the game feel like Fallout 3/NV and makes automatic weapons really good. Minigun is somewhat useful with this chem
Fury is a really bad chem because it's bugged. If you have Big Leagues 2 (or 3 I'm not sure), you won't actually gain the extra melee damage. So while it sounds like an excellent chem for a melee build, it won't work if you have THE most essential melee perk.
Mentats were really good in Fallout 3 and New Vegas because by boosting Perception and Intelligence (and Charisma in New Vegas) they also boosted the Lockpicking and Science skills, so you could get into a locked container or door or terminal that you weren't skilled enough to get into otherwise. But Fallout 4 doesn't have skills so I guess it just increases vats accuracy or something.
I personally love mentats. You are essentially just trading caps for level ups. Given there is a very high level cap and leveling up is rarely bad I would take that deal. If it was “pick one drug to use and never use any others” then it isn’t too useful, but the way I see it is if you have caps, and you want XP, it’s always useful, no matter the build. Also you can get an infinite amount of mysterious serum for free, but only 1 at a time. Its stats are so ridiculous that I use it as a “get out of death free” thing. With melee builds it’s insane and with all other builds it can help very much to survive that random raiser with a fat man.
Pretty sure M rated games were outlawed entirely in Australia back when the first two games were released so I don't think that played a role in the names of the original chems. It definitely affected Med-X's name in Fallout 3 though.
Grape mentats are S tier in my survival playthrough. Paired with dress/shades/pomp wig/ +2 chr on arm slots through legendary. Im getting 10 chr least +better vendor prices. I always need ammo.
excuse me good sir, how can you say Intelligence is good for XP gain but you think Night Person is a D tier perk when it gives you that same XP boost for half the game 🤨🤔
I almost never use chems for my overall Fallout 4 walkthrough, since were competent enough to deal with every enemy. But my top shelf chems that I always use are Rad-X, Stimpak, and RadAway. Ps. I also never finished up Fallout 4 on Survival mode, since the game wasn't that stable on PS4, but maybe things changed after the next gen update.
This may sound weird, I prefer the name changes, it makes them sound more "fantastical" in a way. Also if Buffout is not top tier, lets say the Pyscho and Jet will look mighty friendly with fist to face therapy. Ok jokes/threats aside, since after playing Skyrim, which I kept a strength potion on when I felt like really hoarding stuff, in 4, I kept a bottle of buffout in my inventory at all times. However as a fare warning, this habit needs to be dropped completely if your playing Fallout 76. Mentats eh, that is a chem I keep around in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, not so much in 4, I do not know, it might be because In 3 and NV, I would use the mentats to give me some extra points when hacking which 4, hacking and lock picking are dependent very specific 'perks'.
Berry mentats should be at the absolute top peak tear. It gives you extra XP game, so it's great to use pretty much anytime if you are killing enemies or turning in quests, and also the highlights living enemies is great to make sure that you clear out enemies. I absolutely hate whenever I'm looking around and my heads up display says caution, but I cannot find where the hell that last enemy is hiding. Just follow the purple glow! Also, it does absolutely nothing for hacking computers because whether you can hack computers based entirely on the perk and nothing else so that tells me that I don't think you know all that much about fallout 4 lol you are thinking of fallout New Vegas mechanics
i dont usualy use inteligent at all. the idiot savant perk (Specialy at T2) is far stronger than even maxed out inteligent even if you get it off the roof with all the boosts you can possibly get. i would not however use the T3 because that drasticly changes the amount of times it procs on building, completing quests etc.
Most Psycho perks are an easy S Tier, popping a Psycho + Jet is practically a free win in every single fight as long as you aren't genuinely braindead.
Mixing anything with jet is a waste, you lose mins on the stats. Jet fuel and ultra jet are the ones that make good use of jet without wasting other ingredients.
It depends on how you're playing, because I find Chem Resistant one of the MOST useful perks on Survival Mode because I am always using Jet and Jet Fuel to survive tougher battles and skate around quicker. I literally carry dozens of each around and use them and every other chem quite liberally, to the point that keeping on top of the couple of rarer components of Refreshing Beverages is a chore. I still don't even bother with Party Boy/Girl, so occasionally I'll get addicted to booze and find them useful for an occasional cleanse of rads and the creature. But not having to worry about it while I've got Jet, Jet Fuel, and Psycho on my Chems hotkeys is super convenient.
@@Psychonautical89 I mean that's a strategy, but refreshing beverages are quite easy to craft without having the need to pick Chem Resistant as a perk.
I highly disagree where berry mentats is placed. Its great for dungeons especially when solo. Long term i think its the best variant of the mentat or tied with grape mentat. Just my opinion. Great video

over 2000 hours played and I didn't know some of these. Also, do super stimpaks exist in this game? You didn't cover them.
Tier list idea: Magazines from F3, NV, and F4. Maybe separate them into 3 different videos, though.
Rarely play fallout 4 but ummm grape mentats are my favorite because the boost to selling is good
Pretty sure psycho was steroids
Was it? I would think that would be buffout but I don't think that was in the first game.
Psycho is a mix of cocaine and PCP and buffout is steroids
Why don't you like melee in fallout 4? Is it blocking.
i dont usualy use inteligent at all. the idiot savant perk (Specialy at T2) is far stronger than even maxed out inteligent even if you get it off the roof with all the boosts you can possibly get. i would not however use the T3 because that drasticly changes the amount of times it procs on building, completing quests etc.
Honestly the in universe names are better. Makes the world feel deeper and all the backstory to the drugs add onto that
Most Psycho perks are an easy S Tier, popping a Psycho + Jet is practically a free win in every single fight as long as you aren't genuinely braindead.
Mixing anything with jet is a waste, you lose mins on the stats. Jet fuel and ultra jet are the ones that make good use of jet without wasting other ingredients.
@@meldamo ok but Psycho + Jet + Never Ending Double Barrel Shotgun = you win absolutely everything and you physically cannot lose this fight.
Now I want to play Fallout 4
Doesn't the refreshing beverage in FO4 remove addictions? You craft it in the chem workbench. You shouldn't be struggling with addiction in that game.
Med-x placed higher tier than "Mid tier med-x".
Putting the points in charisma so you can put doctors in your settlements makes addictions a non issue
Day Tripper...Beatles approved😀
I take everything. I only use stims lol
Glad to see someone appreciating the distinction😀😆
Chems are for winners.
In Fallout they are!

I hate how slow and telegraphed unarmed is in Fallout 4.
Yeah me too.
Now do an irl one plz
I highly disagree where berry mentats is placed. Its great for dungeons especially when solo. Long term i think its the best variant of the mentat or tied with grape mentat. Just my opinion. Great video
I love cheeems mmm
Me too!
The antibiotics, herbal stuff and anything to do with illness DOESNT EXIST in base Fallout4. The illnesses don’t exist in base game.
If you’re making videos on the game, that seems like a large detail to miss bro
Bro said vats is bad in fo4 don’t take anything seriously lmao
Depends on your build very heavily
Stimpak F
>fallout 4
So not fallout eh
What does this even mean are you trying to say fallout 4 is bad?
....So much in the air cause it seems you have 1 build and that's it...Okay enough video but hearing "I don't do this build just sell it" just lost all interest in seeing anything of your further...
